I have tried to play a few games lately and after reading through all the Campaigns run by other people, I have
found that I need a "Background" to keep me playing. I have several floating around but I cannot decide on one to use.
So ... which one should I use ?????
1] A WW2 Pulp Science ... Germany finds a crashed spaceship and uses the technology to force a ceasefire in 1944-45, the Allies get their technology from the "Roswell" incident to catch up to Germany. Essentially a WW2 in space
2] My take on the "Full Thrust" Universe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Thrust (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Thrust)
3] One that will be loosly based on the "Command and Conquer" series NOD vs GDI with Trans Newton Minerals taking the place of Tiberium
4] A United Earth under the UN
5] A redux of my first attempt http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php/board,106.0.html (http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php/board,106.0.html)
6] One based (on my interpretation of) the world of Steve Jackson Games "OGRE" http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/lastwar/ (http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/lastwar/)

Well...
1 and 4 have been done here before; I like the idea of the 'Full Thrust' Universe or the OGRE game. As I have the Full Thrust rule books I'm leaning towards seeing how you would put the Kre'Vak (sp) into Aurora.
-
I for one tend to use a something that has a similair regional basis to Full Thrust. For baseline numbers (population, production, etc) I've data from Wiki and massage then in a spreadsheet. Usually have 5-8 governments competing for control.

Bolos FTW!!!

Ogre, just cause it hasnt been done yet! Plus, I loved the original game, which I played a tone back in the day, along with the original Starfire, SFB, and Car Wars.
-
I vote for OGRE, as Laumers Bolos were always my idea of how a machine race would operate (he just caught the voice sooo well). I've also been running a campaign based loosely on the Polseotechnic League which even has a Diplomat named Flandry!
-
looks like a toss up between OGRE and FULL THRUST ..
-
Full thrust would be neat, but OGRE would be a close second.
Either would be a great source for stories.
-
I´m more familiar with Full Thrust and would therefore prefere it, but have heard enough of OGRE that I would like that background as well.
-
Since it looks close between Full Thrust and OGRE, I've started to develop both scenario ideas.
With the Full Thrust Scenario, I have re-named some of the powers and intend to start the game straight after the 2nd American Civil War.

Formed in 2030 from the Union of South American Nations, the LAC is dominated by a joint Brazil/Argentinean coalition. As the United States devolved into Civil War, the South American nations lost valuable economic support from the many trade pacts with the American. The loss of this capital caused a recession which forced the unemployment rates in South America well into double digits. The LAC leadership channelled public anger towards the Americans and released several inflammatory statements against the British lead peacekeeping mission. The inclusion of Mexico and Central America into the Coalition enabled the Government to gain a common border with British Controlled North America and use Mexican claims on Texas, New Mexico and California to back their threats.
While still harbouring a weak economy, the LAC is quickly recovering as new market opportunities open up in Africa and South East Asia for South American goods. The LAC is currently reinvesting any Government financial surpluses back into the industrial sector in an effort to modernize their industry. As a follow on effect, the LAC Military is enjoying a massive modernization program as trade between the LAC and PRC expands to include Military Equipment.
