Title: Missiles, Fire Controls and Multiple Targets
Post by: blue emu on May 20, 2011, 05:25:57 AM
Once you've fired a missile salvo at a specific target, does that fire control have to continue guiding that missile salvo towards that target until impact, or can you fire again at the same or a different target as soon as your tubes are reloaded?

In other words, assuming that you reload between salvos... can a single fire control (a) guide several consecutive missile salvos to different targets, or (b) can it only guide several consecutive missile salvos against the same target, or (c) can it only guide a single missile salvo from launch until impact?

You can switch target whenever you want. The missiles in flight will only loose lock-on if

a) The target gets destroyed while the missiles are still on their way
b) Your ship with the firecon gets destroyed

In those two cases, you can´t give your missiles a new target and they will self-destruct - except, if they mount their own sensors. In that case, they will continue to the last known position, the target was and then start looking for a new target of their own.

c) You lose active contact (ie all fleet elements move out of range before missiles intercept target)
