Title: Problem with Custom Empires
Post by: darkrider2 on July 24, 2011, 12:24:25 AM
So every time I make a custom empire (using wiki directions) and one of two things happens every time

1.  a massive fleet of non hostile ships appear right on my homeworld.
2.  a system right next to me has hostile ships in it.

am I doing something wrong??

I just created a game. I set it up as the default settings, except SM Race.

Generated about 8-9 systems before I found one I liked. Created a SM Race colony on the planet to change the atmosphere. Deleted the SM Race colony when I was done. Then I created an empire using the Create Empire button off the F9 screen.

After 3 years, there was one interruption with a potential interrupt. That lasted for 26 seconds (game time) and less than that real time. My survey ships have 120m km active sensors ON, so anything in the system or the neighboring system should have been found, or at least be curious. The survey ships ran out of fuel surveying the second system, but nothing was found there yet either.

Did you delete the SM Race colony after you were done with it?
And it's possible it could entirely be just bad luck on your part.

yeah I deleted the SM colony and the SM race too.  Still happened.

Oh wow, I just started another game using the default Sol system, one jumppoint away there were hostile ships, taking out four survey craft.  Weird stuff.

Should I turn precursors and star swarm off?

Every system beyond what you make for yourself and the Sol system has a chance to generate the racial factions selected pre game setup. You could go 3-4 jumps from sol in every possible direction and still not encounter evidence of life. As mentioned earlier a good way to be certain is have a scout with big sensors to find or get found, to know for sure!  ;)
