Title: NPR Technology in designs?
Post by: user-unknown on August 13, 2011, 04:13:04 PM
I have managed to salvage quite a few NPR wrecks which had pretty good technology compared to my own, especially in the area of electronic warfare.  I have noticed that by turning the 'own tech only' flag off in the designer I can make designs which include these.  Does this mean that I can actually build ships using these components from scratch, or do I have to have the components already available in my stockpile from salvaging?

I have also somehow managed to get hold of an alien missile design after two of their ships surrended to me when I occupied a planet; while the ordnance loading screen shows it, it doesn't show up in my list of buildable missiles.  This is suggesting to me that I have to have the components in order to include them?

You can build ships with salvaged NPR components; however, it does not mean you can build the same components yourself.  The same applies to the missiles.  You can load them and fire them but you can't build them.

Yes, somehow I thought that would be the case.  Glad I checked before tooling up my shipyards to build the new designs!

I find a better use for salvaged components is to reverse engineer them if they are better, or just scrap for minerals if they are not.

Indeed - to be honest, most of my military expeditions so far have been started by the lure of bringing back shiny new bits of technology to disassemble, rather than any actual military need :)

I never really have luck with ripping them apart for technology so I just scrap them, brings in tons of wealth.

I never knew dissasembling components yelded wealth.. :-[

I captured a planet the other day, and got my hands on THOUSANDS of missiles.  Scrapping yielded oodles of fuel, minerals, and cash money dollars
(cash money dollars is the official currency of Aurora).  I was quite pleased.

Given Steve's nationality, I would have thought the offical currency would have been cash money pounds  ;)

It doesnt.  Dissasemble only gives Research data, and only if you havent already got the tech that you're investigating.  If you dissasemble something that you alread have all the tech for, then you only get the message "no new tech found" or something similar - the unit you dissasembled is lost for no gain. Its done on an individual item by item basis.

Scrapping on the other hand gives you back 30% of the minerals & wealth used to create the items, but its done on entire groups of items.

Ah ok. Yeah I had the 2 confused at first but still didn't realise scrapping got wealth. I always assumed wealth was only gained through commercial companys or colonys.

That is in the game already. Though not from regular NPRs.
