Hello, I have been playing Aurora for a few weeks and I have noticed a feature that could prove useful.
I started my second game (after upgrading to a new version of Aurora) and built a few squads of my most advanced warships (at the time) to make sure the systems around Sol were secure, but now they are just eating up minerals in the overhaul queue.
I want to keep them around though just in case they are needed later on, it would be useful to be able to mothball them in orbit to reduce maintenance but take a month or two to bring back on line after the mothballing.
Thanks for making such an awesome game and reading this!

eheh welcome Commander.
"mothballing" are an "aging request features"..probable a very old..2008..2007..
Steve's never follow our request:)

You could get around that by creating a PDC with huge hangar capacity - No maintenance for the PDC, no maintenance for stored ships
Bad part is you still need to crew the "mothballed" ships.

That is an excellent idea, thank you!

The good part is that those crews could continue to gain skill giving you some elderly designs that have really high crew grade modifiers. Personally I love those sorts of ships as they can become excellent beam point defense ships. The high crew grade has a major impact on the overall chance to shoot down fast missiles, and the shorter range/lighter beam weapons are not usually a big deal in final point defense mode.

I still think it would be nice to have some sort of "Reserve" status or be able to mothball things, though that PDC trick is one I'll have to use in the future.

Actually, mothballing was part of the original Aurora, back seven or eight years ago. It was removed when the game shifted to the current system using Maintenance Facilities.

Hmmm... This forum has been around since 2005ish, so there's 6 years. And there was at least a year on Yahoo Groups.
