Title: Energy weapons tracking speed while unturreted at 0k km/s?
Post by: Dutchling on October 13, 2011, 05:44:50 AM
Title says it all. Will it be zero? I think I read something about it being the same as a 1x TS beam fire control but I can't find it anywhere to be sure.

Non-turreted beam weapons TS will be equal to the speed of the vessel it is mounted on. Or did I misunderstand you?

Yes, it will be the same as the base tracking speed.

Meaning this is a way you can 'pack' four weapons togeather, getting some extra HTK.

Yes unturreted weapons use the better of the ships speed or the base tracking speed technology that you have researched. So if you put unturreted weapons on a design with no engines, it will use the base tracking speed.

Ok, so it is useless to turret weapons on a PDC when you use a 1x tracking speed MFC.

Well,  missile fire controls don't have tracking speeds.

But... if your talking about beam fire control that is standard size then you are correct.  The game function of turrets is to use the higher tracking speeds available when BFC's are build with plusX tracking speeds.  This is discussed in depth several places and a basic search would have revealed several of them.

Oh, I meant beam fire controls indeed. And I know what turrets are for, but I couldn't find the answer to my question when searching.
