Title: Recent Book Purchases
Post by: Steve Walmsley on December 02, 2011, 11:50:22 AM
I was just looking at the books I have bought during the month of November and there is a definite theme so I thought I would share :). It also occurs to me that I seem to buy a lot of books :). I didn't realise quite how many until I actually listed my recent purchases

Definately a themed list  ;D

Nice to see some Abnett in there.  Any desire to read the Horus Heresy books?

I thought Titanicus kicked butt, have you read it yet Steve?

I have read the first eleven Gaunt's Ghosts books plus the the Eisenhorn and Ravenor series, so I am a definite Abnett fan. I'll probably reread Gaunt's Ghosts before buying the 12th and 13th books. With regard to the Horus Heresy books, I have the first nine books, although I have only read the first seven. The quality is variable, ranging from OK to excellent.

I hadn't, but after your comment I started it reading today. I usually let my wife go into the supermarket while I stay in the car and read :).

I have read almost all the Heresy novels to date and had similar opinions to you, Abnett writes the best in my opinion, and the first 4 which have a cohesive narrative are the strongest.

I would tend to agree.  The first 4 are definately the best for me.  I did like Mechanicum as well.  Mainly because Adeptus Titanicus/Space Marine was my first wargame and the book conjured up the same images I'd had playing them.  I have very little time for Battle for the Abyss and the 2 Dark Angels novels other than that I would be happy to pick up and read the rest from time to time.  I liked the first 6 or so Guant's books but I got a bit bored with them aftre that.

I'd encourage you to read some Game of Thrones, but then you'd disappear for months!

Read them all, including the recent one :)

I thought they started off very well but the last two were disappointing in terms of anything actually happening :)

The first two had a lot of surprises, but as it's progressed, I learned that George is a one-trick pony, and that trick is killing off anyone you like.

LOL - This is why I read the first 2-3, then never went back to the books when he started writing them again.
