Title: Unable to Overhaul
Post by: horza on January 21, 2012, 12:04:08 PM
Not sure if this is a bug, or I'm missing something.

I have a line of light carriers (23k tonnage) I've been training up.  I'm trying to overhaul them now and I'm getting:

{carrier} "cannot continue wth her overhaul as there is no maintenance facility of sufficient size"

I have 3 shipyards free, 39k tonnage, even tooled for the CVLs.  So why can't I get an overhaul to work?

Shipyards are not the same as maintenance facility. You build MF from industry, and can track your level by looking at your summary tab, I believe it is one MF per 200 tons, so you are going to need something over 100 MF for your carriers.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have 68 MF at the moment, which should be enough for all my overhauls.  However I have a lot of ships in orbit at the moment - are the MFs considered in use if there are ships to maintain? NB I've been able to overhaul my smaller missile cruisers and escorts without a problem.

That shouldn't factor in, as I remember you can maintain any number of ships at the same time as long as you have enough tonnage (in MFs)

Make sure you don't have a ship being built that will be placed in the fleet as that prevents overhauls

D'oh.  Failure of basic math there : 68MF is definitely not enough for a 23k carrier.  Thanks to both for the replies, but Panopticon had it right.

Incidentally, no math required.  Check out the Planet Summary screen, and usually on the top right of the chart you'll see size of maintenance facility in tons.
