Title: About the Galactic Map
Post by: Herode on July 30, 2012, 11:19:22 AM
(v5.56) I'm trying to find the shortest way back to Earth for a scout in Gliese 563.2 (file attached).
On the Galactic Map, the Display button + Show distance from selected system looks fine, thus I select Sol and I check the distance to Gliese 563.2 : 7.8 something.

But there are 2 pathes between the two systems. I guess the shortest is the one with only one intermediate system but experimental confirmation is always satisfactory so I check the distances step by step, selecting one system after the other on the 2 pathes :

The first path is actually shorter but the numbers do not match. What am I missing ?

This is probably a bug, but it might be calculating it based on position on that map. the 7.8 is fairly close to the 7.5 you'd get if you arranged the stars in a right triangle pattern and did the pythagorean theorem on them.

I think it also accounts for distance from the primary to the JP in that. Not sure though.

Yeah the distance includes the distance the distances to the primary star at either end and the distance between jump points in intermediate systems. So the 7.8 distance is from Sol to the exit JP, plus from the entrance JP to the exit JP in the 9-38 system, and plus from the entrance JP to the Gliese 563.2 pirmary.
