Silly question, Is there a way to give crews a longer space duration than 3 months? Is there a way to automate planetary visits?

more crew/berth space i believe

That's an editable field in class design, top left, you can type in what you want and it autoplaces crew quarters as you go.  Doesn't autoremove them though.

I've always found it does auto remove them

Steve added the autoremoving in 6.1. You now need to check the "keep excess CQ" in the top right if you want to add more yourself to create spare berths/flight crew berths.
