I realize this is addressed in FAQs and on the wiki, however, I think something else is going on here that is different from NPC players interacting, etc.
Basically, I've been trying to advance my game by 30 days and it simply won't go that far any more. Often it stops after 6 ahours, 1 day, 8 days, etc. When it stops there typically isn't anything in the event log indicating an event occurred. This initially led me to believe it was NPC empires, so I checked auto turn and it still stopped without indicating any kind of player interrupt in the log. I activated SM mode so I could look at the event log in SM view and it still shows up blank.
Can anyone provide any suggestions on why this may be happening? It's causing it to be impossible to advance time in appreciable chunks. Thanks!

That is usually something happening. I believe it might be spoilers, but not certain.

I'm not familiar with the term spoiler with regard to Aurora. Can you elaborate on what that means a bit? I appreciate it!

The capabilities of the three extra challenge options you can enable in the game startup/select screen. It's more fun to discover just what they're capable of for yourself, much like the cotton candy of dwarf fortress
