It is my understanding that in the past, NPRs would attack you and your home world, but would not actually launch an invasion with ground troops (spoilers very occasionally did so). Could somebody let me know if that is still accurate? Do NPRs initiate ground combat now?
Looking to jump back in Aurora but this is a deal breaker for me.

I don't think so, but as with many limitations of aurora you can role play and use spacemaster to add some extra flavour. Add some ground troops to any planet that's received heavy enemy assaults, create some rules you'll follow to decide how many Bd what type of ground units to use, maybe based on number of ships, their tonnage, how long they stayed in orbit, add some randomness, etc. Shouldn't really be a deal breaker if you can tolerate a little micro management.

The precursors are the only race I've ever encountered who have troop transports.

yeah currently nprs dont do invasions well that ive seen anyway could change with 6.4 though
