Title: Missile detection range
Post by: Zeebie on February 27, 2014, 08:38:56 AM
Can someone help me with  how missile detection works?

My ship has this active sensor:
Active Search Sensor MR23-R1      GPS 210     Range 23.1m km    MCR 2.5m km    Resolution 1

It detects this missile at 2.3 million km:
Congo Anti-ship Missile  Speed: 19 400 km/s   End: 129.2m    Range: 150.3m km   WH: 10    Size: 7    TH: 64/38/19

Why aren't I detecting it at 23.1 million km?  Doesn't resolution 1 mean I should see a size 7 missile at the edge of detection range?

resolution 1 means you should see a 50 ton object at 21 million km.

However, this missile is much, much smaller than that, so you're detecting it much closer. This is what's scary about missiles.

incidentally: "mcr" is the calculated approx range you will detect a size 6 or smaller missle

IS the MCR always for a size 6 missle or does it ever change size?

Yes

You do realize that wasn't really a yes or no question? ;)

True but clear and concise answers with no fluff.... Now that I can never argue with.
