Title: Huge Damage
Post by: Zenrer on March 12, 2014, 08:03:44 AM
Hey all,
Was looking through some threads, and came along this one:
http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php/topic,6721.0.html

Specifically, the part I was very interested in:
Ryza Pattern Nova Cannon (cal 2598-r520-311. 76m) (2)    Range 1,400,000km     TS: 25000 km/s     Power 2598-25     RM 12    ROF 520        2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598

How is a weapon this big achieved? I have found no option anywhere in the game

That could be a max tech laser or more likely a plasma carronade.

From the damage, looks like a carronade on steroids. Spinal mount maybe?

Can't spinal mount PCs.

I can't even replicate them with all tech. Closest I could come are these.
Code: [Select]
120cm C6.25 Far Gamma Ray Laser (1)    Range 1,400,000km     TS: 25000 km/s     Power 377-6.25     RM 12    ROF 305        377 377 377 377 377 377 377 377 377 377
80cm C25 Plasma Carronade (1)    Range 1,400,000km     TS: 25000 km/s     Power 168-25     RM 1    ROF 35        168 84 56 42 33 28 24 21 18 16
Fire Control S16 700-100000 (1)    Max Range: 1,400,000 km   TS: 100000 km/s     99 99 98 97 96 96 95 94 94 93

So I think the original creator got in the database and messed with things. Which is permissible, just realize that bugs with that are going to be required to be reproduced under a clean DB. :)

From what the original poster of the design said this is a max tech ADVANCED LASER.  They had to get the 10cm version from the ruins and then research and build the new lasers.  I don't have access on this computer but I will check later and let you know if it is reproducable.

Here is the specs for a max tech Advanced Laser, in an Advanced Spinal Mount.

Code: [Select]
315cm C25 Far Gamma Ray Laser (1)    Range 256,000km     TS: 4000 km/s     Power 2598-25     RM 12    ROF 520        2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598 2598
This seems to be an exact match as far as I can see currently.

That is amazingly higher than a regular laser.

It is a lot higher than a regular laser, in addition when I checked out the entire range of advanced lasers I noticed a problem.  In the past an advance laser did about 25% more damage for it's size without any extra power requirements.  For example a 12cm advanced laser did 6 points damage but only required 4 points of power to recharge.  This is no longer true.  The 10cm Advanced laser shows as a 4 cm laser with damage 0, range 0, and 1 hull space size.  I think something may have slipped into the database.  The current lineup is 4cm, 5cm, 8cm, 12cm lasers on the design screen with damage starting at 0, 1, 2, 4, and 10 respectively.  They all need the same amount of power as their damage output.  The actual sizes on the pulldown menu do not match these however.  There they go the standard 10cm, 12cm, 15cm, 20cm etc.  On the high end this pattern is reversed with the 80cm advanced laser saying it is a 210cm laser.  I did this double check with a fresh database just to make sure that there wasn't any problems with something I had done previously.  Also all of the above data was without using any spinal beam modifiers.  I will be putting a bug report in for this.

I hadn't noticed this issue with advanced lasers.  From a little tweeking of my prototyping workbook it looks like Steve is referencing the damage field instead of the focal size field.

Interesting that there was this question around when I just got back to Aurora. Yeah, it was of course advanced lasers in advanced spinal mount, but...

I feel honored to be thought of as someone with such capability, but I have no idea how to do that. Funny is that I actually came here again to search for a way to do it on the forum, because I would like to make some personal modded adjustments for my new game. However I did not find anything via search, so could someone point me on how to open this stevefire.mdb?

I myself reported this issue already some months ago, though I only mentioned that low grade advanced lasers have no effect and apparently no other advantage in trade at all. I stopped thinking about it after they at least got awesome strong (though still needing just as much energy/ no better dps), which made them good capital weapons. The wiki was still misleading with the claim that they are "more accurate versions of the standard laser", but I assumed it was just outdated like on other occasions too.

You need the designer password for database access. You need to PM Steve for it.

I already have one, but how does that allow any editing in the raw data? For it just looks like enhanced SM mode really. You can change sides, and you can delete stuff, but how to influence the basic variables and tables, I don't see.

Incorrect, the database password is different from the designer password.

Steve has stated in the past that he is reluctent to supply either.  If he has given you the password it is with the understanding that: 1) you do not pass it on  2) that any errors/bugs will be ignored if you have made database alterations.
