Title: Six Stars
Post by: Nightstar on April 10, 2013, 09:39:03 AM
Earth. Our home. Birthplace of humanity. Suddenly destroyed in the first trans-newtonian war. Remnants fled to the surrounding systems, and built up their capabilities. Now the colonies are reaching back to the stars. Will it be a new golden age? Or another war?
Blah Blah. :) Six factions around a dead earth. Earth is irradiated and useless, but Sol is still wealthy.

The goal of the game is power. Either through war, or total diplomatic control. War is probably easier. Skirmishes, backstabbing, and total war encouraged.

The stars are pretty much even, though not identical. Don't worry too much, just pick the one with the name you like best.

Setup details:

No NPRs. No SS. Manually controlled precursors. The precursors will get some of my more fun designs, bwahaha. Precursors will be guarding caches of useful stuff, to say nothing of the potential tech gains. On the other hand, you might not be able to win. Pick your fights wisely.

Planets are 1 billion pop, normal stuff. You have a ten year supply of duranium to mine, other minerals are somewhat randomized. Shipyards look like so: (http://i.imgur.com/S4dju9Y.png)

Six factions, six stars, with luck, twelve players.

Stars:
Alpha Centauri. (Panopticon)
Barnards Star. (sublight)
Lalande. (coco146, second icecoldblood)
Proxima Centauri. (kks)
Sirius. (Gidoran, second admiral666)
Wolf. (3_14159, second Cripes almighty)

Signed up players without an assignment:
- oldark

Signups are still open by the way.

To claim a star, post here. Two to a star is fine! But whoever picks first is in charge.

Stars claimed! Need seconds! Team up with whoever you like.

Can you explain what you mean by including 40kRP of designs?

Small point - I'm with Gidoran!

By 40k RP, I mean like you'd use in instants to start your game.

I wish to give you all a trans-newtonian start with a decent amount of RP. I'd rather not assign it myself. Random gives sort of ridiculous stuff frequently. Giving you each separate research would unbalance things off the bat, because you'd trade it all. So, each star gets to choose 40k RP. Racial tech, armor, construction rate, engines, whatever. As an amusing bonus, this simulates a government pretty well. :p

Since we haven't assigned people to stars yet, and I need this before we go forward, the first people to give me a list of tech to put in get priority control of a star.

Never mind. Stupid idea. Forget it. Anyone who wants in, just post here and pick a star. Remember that two people to a star is fine. :)

I'll snag Alpha Centauri.

I'll have Lalande.

If first name gets in I'll take Barnards.

Edit: Since fleet actions appear to be at least partially conducted in chat I'd like to recruit an Admiral who lives in a different time zone from me (not GMT -4) to maximize Barnards Star's ability to coordinate defenses against any act of aggression against us.

I'll take Proxima Centauri then.

So everything's claimed. For simplicity, I'm giving whoever picked first control. However, I suggest that the less experienced person on a team defer to the other. It's really more fun for everyone. Thanks.  :)

I'll team up with 3_14159 at Wolf if he'll have me again.

Are we still going to get some RP to instant some components? 40k would be a bit much, but we could probably get by with 15k after all the random (or nonrandom) starting tech has been given out.

Anybody want to be my second?

Just wanna take the opportunity to mention that #7Dictators on irc.rizon.net is still there, and as it isn't being used for 7 Dictators, might as well extend the offer to use it for this. Kepler, Nightstar, and I hang out there with a couple others like kks and Admiral666 popping in from time to time. The rest of you mooks should join in, you don't want us to be lonely do you?

Unpassworded game. Check that out, see if there's any obvious problems, prepare orders.

Anyone that hasn't given me their dropbox email, please PM me. I'll need it very soon.

To clarify the dropbox email bit: You'll need a dropbox account to play this game. It's how we'll be sharing the database.

Copy with SM password removed for testing. Minerals inaccurate. JPs between sol and oclonies should have JPs.

Are you playing with a pack of extra images for planets?  Because whenever I try to open the system view it results in a crash.

I don't think so? I think it has the planets Steve's added since 5.56, but you should have those too.

There was an optional(?) image pack included with the install for 6.2 that you may have chosen to not add. Was a separate download.

Did you do the second step, which tells to copy the pictures in the planets subfolder?

Yes I did, still causing problems though.  In a worse case scenario I can ask my second to get important stuff from the that screen.

Sorry about the double post, but my self and icecoldblood will both have exams in the next couple of weeks to month, is there anybody willing to come aboard as a third member to take over while we are doing that?

Blah. So, I figure I owe a few explanations at this point. To simplify greatly, Aurora has been downgraded from my obsession to my hobby, and I no longer have half the free time I did. This is still going, but it's now on a 'when I get to it' basis. I make no promises on the frequency of my turns, though I hope for at least once a week on average.   :(

As mentioned, Ektoras is looking for a position. If any of you want a backup/someone to share plans with, here's your chance.

Comments can go here. If they get overwhelming, I'll petition to split them off the topic.
