Creating a NPR with multiple colonies
« on: October 15, 2020, 12:12:45 AM »
Can it be done now in 1.12? I would like to set up at last my multi-nations Earth game, with some nations having colonies on the Moon, Mars, Europe and Titan. Is it possible?

Now, I may be reading this wrong, but so far I was able to multi start on different planets, I also did a custom game whare I had 1 race in Sol and 1 in another System starting.

All the above are player races, but I gues you could turn them into an NPR as well using the indipendence button?

EDIT: I think I understood now, if you click indipendence you would end up with 1 race per planet. DB edit perhaps?

Player race can never be turned into an NPR.

As far as I know, there is no way to have NPR start with multiple colonies without DB editing.

I see I thought the independence would create a new race and such race would have been an NPR. I never used it...

It does create a new race but that's another player-controlled race. It's a shortcut to avoid the hassle of doing it manually when you want to roleplay an independence movement or civil war or whatever.

In VB6 it was possible to do so in designer mode, but designer mode isn't available yet for c#.
As garfunkel said it's only possible by editing the DB.

Update: It is fairly easy to change the Empire owning a colony, at least if you start fresh and you manipulate the Sol system at start. A single edit in the appropriate table (Population) of the RaceID field, and you are good  :D

So just plop empty colonies in the solar system, then go to the table, and change RaceID. You can also change the population while you are at it. If you want to go into the details, then you can edit installations with the aptly named table PopulationInstallations.

When play with database I always recommend/follow this simple rules:

1- have a dummy database for testing, your current campaign will do, the more data the better, but remove all other save from the database
2- 1 database per save - easier to work with
3- backup always before start modifying
4- before making a change try it first on the dummy database

It's also easy to give NPR human-designed ships but the AI does not know what to do with them. I don't know whether there is special code for the AI that doesn't get called if you just "magically" transfer a colony to them and thus it would always remain inactive and/or cause issues. I'm saying that it's possible since the AI does not play with the same tools as a human player.
