Topic Summary

Just to be EXTREMELY clear, my CSV works fine. Unfortunately, another was uploaded on my board (rather than create a new post) which doesn't work. I have highlighted it to Erik but so far couldn't get it removed/moved.

Eventually, the original CSV is in the first post and if you wish to change something (like this user has done) please feel free.

Thanks

What now? Where?

Because I couldn't find one, I'm posting my modified csv that has more balanced point values.   Or at least I think they are.   I have added the governor and service medals from these two posts:

I don't know what happens when you load a CSV pointing to ribbon images that don't exist, so I recommend adding those to your medals folder in addition to the main one on the first post, before importing the attached CSV.

Most people who used this CSV probably figured this out on their own, but just incase, for those who want to use this CSV without errors you will have to remove the commas before "outside of combat" and "or for an extended period":
Code: [Select]
Exceptional Service Medal,Having shown exceptional performance of the highest degree in service of humanity, outside of combat,ESV,250,N,service_exceptional.png
Remarkable Service Medal,Having shown remarkable performance in service of humanity, outside of combat,RSV,150,N,service_remarkable.png
Distinguished Service Medal,Having shown distinguished performance in service of humanity, outside of combat,DSV,50,N,service_distinguished.png
Homeworld Governor class I,Having ruled over the Homeworld with distinction, or for an extended period.,HGV,50,N,Homeworld_Governor.png

EDIT: Post with not working CSV was removed by Moderator, Thanks Erik

... - as a baseline, I believe that a commander accumulates 100 promotion score per year just by existing, so 100 PP ~ some action equivalent to the worth of one year's quiet, nondescript service. However I'm not 100% certain on this and it may only be 25 points, so if someone can correct me, my overworked and underpaid junior LCDRs will be be grateful.
I would like to know the mechanic behind this as well. How do people get promotion points and how many? Does someone know?

The VB6 wiki page has technical details, and thus far I have not seen anything in terms of C# mechanics to replace this, aside from the fact that the Initiative rating is no longer in the game. I might load up a new game and test this sometime to see if I can determine any changes.

What is considered 'Military Shipping' and why does it give less promotion points by default than destroying commercial shipping?

I get that Ace has to give out a small amount of points cuz it stacks and can be abused by swatting fighters. But shouldn't killing 10,000 tons of military ship reward more than killing 10 hostile missiles?
Having used this medal pack a few times, I will point out that the point values in the CSV are not intended for gameplay, they are set to put the medals in a readable order when you first load the CSV in-game. You are intended to set your own point scores based on how much you value each medal condition.

Correct, in addition to this, it is worth noting that some of the values (most of them actually) are the standard Steve did set when creating the the 60 medals conditions.

I may add this note to the main post.

"Military shipping" is simply any tonnage that has military instead of commercial designation. The factor of 10 difference corresponds to the same difference in tonnage of military vs commercial shipyards.

I was surprised that the Medal of Honor gave so little promotion score by default. I give it 3000 score, to make it the most valuable medal outside the 'Former Admin Commander' stuff. I give it to officers who perform important 'firsts' like establishing the first colony on Mars or performing the first jump to another system. It guarantees they'll be Admirals and around for a long time.

You can Always add points to the default settings.

I may have to change that as it was introduced later.

Some naval ranks from 1 to 10 if you want to use with the pack.

I recommend using points from 3501 to 3510 or from 1 to 10 so they will be displayed all next to each other either as fist ribbon or latest, your call.

R001 - 1 or 3501
R002 - 2 or 3502
R003 - 3 or 3503
R004 - 4 or 3504
R005 - 5 or 3505
R006 - 6 or 3506
R007 - 7 or 3507
R008 - 8 or 3508
R009 - 9 or 3509
R010 - 10 or 3510

I believe this medal set can be included in the base game, it is excellent!

Suggestions: Please add a few discretionary medals (no conditions) for distinguished (100), remarkable (250), exceptional (1000) services, distributed as we see fit with the proper citations we want. I awarded some to bold scout commanders going where no one went ever before (well except a Chinese convoy that said scout tracked over a few billions kms  ;D )

Hi, thanks!

Attached your request.

If you had a different idea on how it should look like feel free to share and I may design something else for you.

I quite like this - thanks for your work.
If I may make a small suggestion - how about a separate medal for being the Governor of your race's homeworld? I mean you can use the Colony medal, but something special would be nice.
(BTW I created my own medal for that, but others may want that option too. )

Attached for you 2 options
