First serious attepts to build a fleet

This is a first serious playtrough in C Aurora with zero real combat experience.
Looks like i am lucky enough, it is Inertial Fusion Drive times and i didn't meet anyone, maybe it is because i still surveyed only 16 systems.  (general idea - survey only those things that i may touch in near future)
12 Habitable colonies in 3 adjusted to Sol systems with practically only one problem - huge shortage of Gallicite.  Soon, terraforming of Barnard Star II will be completed (300 orbital terraforming modules are working day and nigh to made this 0. 39 vs Earth terraforming rate world habitable) and i will finally start extracting its 33 millions of Gallicite with accessibility 1.
After that it will be time to look further.
And i need home defence fleet.

First ships entered service were "Gnevny" series kinetic frigates with basic area defence and close combat capability:

Do the Gnevny's travel with supply ships? They might run out of maintenance space at some point I think, but everything else looks pretty good from my limited perspective. Great range and deployment time on all three classes, they could definitely patrol for awhile alone.

If you are at already at Inertial fusion tech, you probably want to stop using rail guns to something better (Particule lance, lasers). That kinetic frigate seems to have good PD capability, but your fleet as a whole need more layers of PD (AMM and laser).
You need to thin out the ennemy salvo unless you have a stupid amount of those frigates.

Your missile cruiser design on the other hand is quite bad: Only 8 missiles per salvo for a 20k tons ship? My fighter-bomber does the same. You must densify your salvo by reducing the size of your launchers, as rate of fire is not important for ASM

Also the range of your MFC is huge compared to your missile range, it's useless unless you intend to shoot fighters with your 25 damages missiles (probably overkill). I would personnally reduce the range and the warhead of the missile and make it a lot faster.

All those ships designed to operate in one group : 10x Gnevny + 4 Kirov + 4 Azov + Future Light Carriers + Future Survelliance Cruisers + Future Command Ships + Possible Future BattleCruisers.
About Fleet Supply / Oridinance / Tankers - i tried design Fleet Tankers, and i got terrible abominations, just as Jump Cruisers - so i wll look at them later again.

I've researched far enough only Rail and Gauss tech, so i am tied to them for some time.
All my beam fire controls / missle fire controls have more capabilities than armament, because of ECM and because i don't know how it affect targeting in practice and i was not sure about missle range.

I had doubts about Missle Cruisers, thats why i intended to add Fighter-Bombers to increase 1st salvo size plus retain the ability to fire again, because i think that 10x Gnevny Frigates will not be enough to finish battle with empty fighters and box lauchers.

More PD layers - i was thinking about combined Jump + AMM Missle Defence Cruiser / Destroyer.

with feedback above and increased number of Azov Light Cruisers (from 4 to 10) Kirovs got redesign:

Dumped 4 CIWS, with 10x Gnevny and 10x Azov in group - area defence got stronger. 
Salvo size from 4 cruisers increased from 32 to 128 + 80 from fighter-bombers, reaching 208 total. 
Missles for some time will stay same, until got redesigned on next technological level.

Really impressed with the amount of stuff you got into the fighter scout and bomber, my fighters it feels like I'm struggling with every ton and I still don't get a great result, like 3 size 3.5 launchers in a 250t bomber

And range of fighters is not sufficient: Fighters from fighter base on Earth cant reach colony on Titan for example

For reference my magnetic confinement tech, anti-pd heavy spoiler, size 3 missiles in one of my current games travel at about 77,000 km/s. These sport a relatively small warhead, are short range (10m km) and are intended to overcome significant PD with good speed and great numbers (size 5 warheads don't sound too scary until you get hit by 500 of them). For my capital ships I used the same basic missile type but I used 2 of them mounted inside a longer range stage that increases the range to 700m km with the cruise stage travelling around 11,000km/s and seperating 9m km from the target. This worked against the target I had designed them for. My fighters travelled at 20,000km/s with a weight limited to less than 150 tons because I wanted 100 of them per 20,000 ton carrier.

I wouldn't necessarily say it was inherently a problem that your fighters and missiles are the same speed, it really depends on what you're fighting and what your needs are. But I would say, the fighters should be treated kind of like a "first stage" for the missile. They need to be small enough to avoid targeting until they are in launch range, fast enough to escape from any enemies after having launched and return to the carrier (obviously the faster they are the more sorties can be achieved in a given time). For range, when it comes to regular carrier ops I would say take a look at your typical ship-to-ship combat missile and figure out what range increase over that you want from your fighter-missile combo. Obviously if you have a specific task in mind (for example being able to redeploy between two colonies at will) then there may need to be special considerations (maybe warranting of a new design).

I still don't know what i am fighting - surveyed 25 system and still silence, not even ancient ruins.
I was thinking about size 2-4 light missles for overwhelming enemy PD / anti-fighter weapon after Energyz feedback and looks like i will made some cheap sub 5000 "small Kirov" for them.
0. 16 litre fuel use tech is almost researched and i will redesign size 6 missle and add "light one"

Same speed fighters and missles means that they are not balanced, i was not sure earlier what exactly was wrong.

Primarily i need fighters for carrier-ops, but also i was thinking about planetary defence : fighter base on Earth to cover Sol system + same for other core systems.  (Alpha Centauri also have colonies with 1b+ distance).  For now i think i will go with just Tu-22 ER (extended range) version with more efficient engines (after 0. 16 lites tech)

for Sol system fighter defence, question of fighters range was solved by adding 5 colonies in asteroid belt with 10 DST, 4 Cargo , 4 Refueling, 4 Ordinance stations + Fuel / Ordinance supplies each in every direction + i got total EM / Thermal passive sensor coverage up to Jupiter orbit.   Everything up to Saturn orbit is now within less 24 hours striking distance.   Alpha Centauri hovewer don't have any bodies that could grant that possibility.   No fighters modification need for now.

Additionally Gnevny class become destroyers and got upgrade to Laser weaponary and got extended lifetime and durability:

Finally, after starting new game in 1.10, i meet first aliens. (not counting precursors, who sitting on planet and acting like furniture).
Suddenly it turns out that i am outgunned, outnumbered, outranged and my ships are 3x slower than enemy ships. 200+ wrecks of Light Carriers, Cruisers, Destroyers and fighters floating in Kapteyns Star system with more than 30 millions civilian losses on Kapteyns Star A-1 border colony are silent reminder of this shocking defeat.
Critical design error : lack of Active Sensors on missles led to huge overkills. Doctrine flaw : in this game i didn't design missle cruisers at all.
My retreating fleet was chased down and annihilated in less than 10 minutes.

Enemy ships can kite me easily, right now they have 2x speed advantage and have confirmed 1.1m km Laser range. My newest BFC have 1m km range and my top damage laser : Advanced Spinal Mount 60.0cm C16 Near Gamma Ray Laser with 94 dmg is still 3x time weaker. Missles were chosen as only avaliable solution.
My earlier focused investment in shipyards and good mineral stockpile was core reason in my survival in this game : i can produce 20 x 5000 tonn, 20 x 15000 tonn, 20 x 25000 tonn, 10 x 35000 tonn, 50 x 1000 tonn ships simultaneously.
For next ~10 years i go into "dead defence" mode. Enemy has confirmed path to every 3 colonised systems that lead to Earth. Without constant fleet prsence in each system moving further is too risky.

There's a huge disparity between your missile ranges and your fire control ranges.  Your missiles barely reach 17mkm while your fire controls see out to almost 300mkm.  Unless your enemy can cruise around at 70kkm/s I would decrease the "to hit chances" of your ASMs, and put the freed up space into more fuel, or alternatively if your doctrine is " small range big bang" into more warhead.  (the missiles the Gnevny uses are probably fine as they are if they are used against fighters, and those tend to be quite fast)

Your AMMs are fine, they are sort of "future proof" for when you decide to increase your AMM envelope to 10 mkm.

I would also put more fire controls on your missile ships.  Even though your ships are quite well armoured, a single unlucky penetrating hit could essentially neuter your offensive capabilities.  An other reason is to reduce the chances of overkill even if you fire missiles without sensors by dividing your firepower between several hostile ships (if you RP that your missiles have to have sensors then it's fine to have sensors, but fire control redundancy is still quite essential imho)

The Ognevoy and Gnevny does not have enough MSP to repair battle damage to the most expensive component (battle damage is max MSPx2 iirc)

I tend to design my ships (the exception being carriers) with half of the range you did, which frees up more space for weapons and such
Also your ASM Ships can only fire 3 salvos before they are out of missiles, which can be a problem.
But these two are more nitpicking than actual design flaws :)

These are the things I would personally change on these designs otherwise I think they are quite nice.
