The Aquarius-class fuel harvester is one of the Republic's key strategic assets.  Each of these humble ships contains a massive on-board refinery capable of refining Sorium into well over 1,000,000 liters of fuel per year.  Due in large part to these vessels, the Republic has never faced a fuel shortage.

The Aquarius-class was designed specifically to harvest fuel from Jupiter.  Once the harvester is full, it makes the short trip to Callisto and drops off its fuel before returning to Jupiter to repeat the process.  The Republic views this arrangement as much more efficient than a complicated supply chain of immobile harvesting bases serviced by tugs and/or tankers.  The Aquarius requires no assistance at all to perform its function.  Meanwhile the processed fuel reserves on Callisto can be picked up by the Fleet's tankers whenever it is convenient for them to do so.

Introduced: 2047

In 2034 the fledgling Terran Republic unveiled its first starship, the Union-class freighter.  In the decades since then these ships have logged hundreds of billions of miles and provided yeoman service from one end of the Republic to the other.  From the outset these ships were designed to transport a small number of colonists as a secondary function.  Every Republic colony that exists today was first seeded by these ships.

Although no upgrade is planned, it is likely that the Union-class will remain in service for many more years to come.

Introduced: 2034
Ships in class:  Union, Accord, Alliance, Coalition, Concordat

The Genesis-class Freighter is the direct descendant of the Union-class.   It represents an important attempt by Space Command to inject additional capability into its commercial designs.  In contrast to most commercial designs the Genesis features respectable armor, decent point-defense, and a small sensor suite.  It also retains all the capabilities of the old Union-class while being significantly faster.  While it retains the Condor's tractor beam, it drops the salvaging unit.

Introduced: 2059
Ships in class:  Genesis, Esther, Exodus, Jonah, Leviticus.  5 more under construction.

Code: [Select]
Genesis class Freighter    57 800 tons     357 Crew     2387 BP      TCS 1156  TH 5000  EM 0

The Great Lakes-class cargo barges are not classified as freighters.  This is because at 6,800 tons these humble vessels are only 1/10th the mass of traditional freighters such as the Union, Genesis, and Condor class.  Despite this, the ship's single cargo bay is still rated at 20% of what a "standard" freighter can haul.  This means that for its tonnage, the Great Lakes is a far more efficient conveyance than a true freighter, especially in situations where speed is not necessarily an issue.

As the Republic's colonies grow, so will these worlds' output of, and need for, modest amounts of raw materials.  The Great Lakes barges have therefore been fulfilling the rising need for light, low-urgency haulage.

The Mk II upgrade includes an Internal Confinement Fusion Drive and an Improved Cargo Handling System.

Introduced:  2052
Ships in class:  Erie, Huron, Michigan, Ontario, Superior

Code: [Select]
Great Lakes Mk II class Cargo Barge    6 800 tons     34 Crew     181.5 BP      TCS 136  TH 250  EM 0

MSP 17    Max Repair 62.5 MSP
Intended Deployment Time: 3 months    Spare Berths 0
Cargo 5000    Cargo Handling Multiplier 10

General Dynamics 250 EP Commercial Internal Fusion Drive (1)    Power 250    Fuel Use 6.63%    Signature 250    Exp 5%
Fuel Capacity 100 000 Litres    Range 39.9 billion km   (251 days at full power)

Ground-based terraforming installations are time-consuming to produce and inconvenient to deploy.  In many cases they are also unsuited for the very worlds they are intended to terraform, as such colonies may not have enough manpower to operate them properly.  Sometimes, a terraforming target has yet to be colonized at all, making the use of terraforming installations impossible.  Finally, the industrial capacity to construct these installations may not be available in the first place.

For all these reasons the Republic has transitioned most of its terraforming capacity to the Gaia-class terraforming ships.  One or two of these ships have been slowly churned out every year since their introduction in 2052.  The Gaia-class is a slow, massive, bulky design dominated by its three terraforming modules.  Over the years the Gaia terraforming fleet has gradually made its rounds from world to world, and is currently at Corronis.

Introduced:  2052
Ships in class:  10, with 2 more in production.  In contrast to standard practice, these ships are designated by production number, not name, i.e. Gaia 003.

Code: [Select]
Gaia class Terraformer    105 950 tons     560 Crew     3331.2 BP      TCS 2119  TH 4000  EM 0

Intended Deployment Time: 3 months    Spare Berths 1
Terraformer: 3 module(s) producing 0.0075 atm per annum

General Dynamics 400 EP Commercial Magneto-plasma Drive (10)    Power 400    Fuel Use 4.42%    Signature 400    Exp 5%
Fuel Capacity 3 750 000 Litres    Range 144.1 billion km   (883 days at full power)

The Mikkelsen-class Recreational Ship was designed to address the needs of Aquarius-class fuel harvesting teams stationed at remote sites such as Jupiter.  These semi-mobile resort bases feature boast a wide variety of modern entertainment features, from bars, restaurants, nightclubs, parks, and green areas to zero-g fighting and the most advanced virtual-reality simulators.  All attractions are carefully designed to stay fully within the bounds of the law, of course.

Introduced:  2057
Ships in class:  Mikkelsen

Code: [Select]
Mikkelsen class Recreational Ship    116 000 tons     1070 Crew     3842 BP      TCS 2320  TH 800  EM 0
344 km/s     Armour 1-211     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
MSP 21    Max Repair 100 MSP
Intended Deployment Time: 120 months    Spare Berths 207
Recreational Facilities
Fuel Harvester: 1 modules producing 56000 litres per annum

General Dynamics 400 EP Commercial Magneto-plasma Drive (2)    Power 400    Fuel Use 4.42%    Signature 400    Exp 5%
Fuel Capacity 1 000 000 Litres    Range 35.0 billion km   (1178 days at full power)

This design is classed as a Commercial Vessel for maintenance purposes

OOC note:  The fuel harvester was included because apparently, the recreational facility doesn't actually function unless the ship is doing something else, such as refining sorium.

The Overlord-class troop transport is a commercial design that is operated directly by the Navy.  To this date the Overlord has the distinction of being the largest starship class ever constructed.  One of these ships can transport an entire Army division and all of its equipment in a single lift.  The Overlord also features reasonable speed and armor protection.  Although it is not a dropship, the extensive cargo handling system ensures that troops are deployed (or retrieved) in the shortest amount of time possible.

The Mk Ib Overlord added a pair of self-defense Phalanx cannons.  No further upgrades are planned at this time.

Introduced:  2041
Ships in class:  Overlord, Subjugator

Code: [Select]
Overlord Mk Ib class Troop Transport    121 150 tons     1033 Crew     5292.6 BP      TCS 2423  TH 8000  EM 0

MSP 27    Max Repair 100 MSP
Intended Deployment Time: 6 months    Spare Berths 1
Troop Capacity: 21 Battalions    Cargo Handling Multiplier 150

General Dynamics 400 EP Commercial Magneto-plasma Drive (20)    Power 400    Fuel Use 4.42%    Signature 400    Exp 5%
Fuel Capacity 2 000 000 Litres    Range 67.2 billion km   (235 days at full power)

Like the Overlord, the Luyang-class tanker is a commercial vessel that is operated as a component of the Navy.  The Luyang is a swift, reasonably tough vessel that can haul over 10,000,000 liters of fuel.  As such, at least one or two of these tankers can be expected to accompany the Fleet on any operation of significance.

The Luyang features a pair of Phalanx autocannons for point defense.

Introduced:  2049
Ships in class:  Luyang, Dalian, Liaoning, Renhai

Code: [Select]
Luyang class Tanker    30 000 tons     178 Crew     1742.4 BP      TCS 600  TH 2400  EM 0
