Über alles in der Welt - 1939/1942

1939 - 1942

Immediately after arrived in the office to begin her second term, Iaraina Konovalova restarted the colonization and mining efforts that were effectively the biggest project she launched so far. The idea was to take them to the next level by establishing permanent colonist routes. To achieve such a dream the current Colony Ships were perhaps too expensive and new designs were started to be considered.

On the 15th February 1939, Titan was the first extraterrestrial mining colony to be established by the government after the civilian initiative led the race by establishing the first of such operations in space. The Chancellor asked then again to the Senate to grant some protection to new colonies, and while the one on Titan was approved due to its long distance from Earth, all the other motions were denied. Eventually, the building of replacement battalions for the one sent was denied as well.

With the fuel reserves below 4 million litres, it was decided to restart the fuel refineries on Earth for 1 year. To complete such production there was barely enough Sorium currently in stock and the remaining would have been mined over time.

With the arrival of the Urban Battalion in July 1939, the colony started to look like a real outpost. More than 420,000 colonists were living on the moon actively producing 77 tons of TN minerals per year. Using this successful story plans to expand operations on other new and existing colonies were already being discussed.

Later in the year 1939, all productions scheduled in the first term were now completed. Although Financial Centers were reduced to 50 from the original 100 ordered due to the lack of minerals, it was now possible to plan different courses. Unfortunately, the economy was again under pressure with a small debt accumulated over the past year. The Chancellor decided then to delay the new production plan to provide some relief to the state treasury.

As the Commercial Shipyard was still locked to build the 5 new Freighters and the new freighters built actually stopped by the lack of minerals, it was considered to resume the expansion of the new commercial shipyard to reach at least the 24,500 tons needed to build a new colony ship. The action would have allowed the Chancellor to start her plans on the establishment of permanent settler lines. However, a new idea of proper liners ships smaller and just for this purpose started to cross the Chancellor’s mind:

The new Spanish design would have granted a better logistic capability than the current colony ships. They were intended for small and fast regular transports within the Sol System, however, the long endurance and contained costs would have maybe been effective also for longer travels if ever required.

On the 11th of February 1940, the production of fuel was completed and no more Sorium was left in stock. 10.5 million liters of fuel were now available. The Chancellor asked for the approval and institution of the Earth Luna Colonization Line and the Earth-Mars colonization Line. The plan included regular flights in and out of Earth to the two colonies. Initially, one flight every week per colony will be established for a total of roughly 150.000 colonists and 104 installations per year. As a side effect, the plan would also free the current colony ships that could be used to boost the colonization of the more important mining colonies. Eventually, 2 Santa Maria were required.

As the motions hit the floor, the Senate started again with the now known politic of the small steps. Luna first and then, if all good, the others. Maybe. The Chancellor, tired of such an approach and with enough experience under her belt in dealing with these matters decided to immediately put a veto on the Mars resolution and carry on with the approval of both plans.

Finally, on the 7th of September 1940, the first permanent line between Earth and Luna is inaugurated by the DKM Santa Maria LNR. Immediately after a new supply of infrastructures is requested to fulfil the first few years requirements of the projects.

A few months later, Chancellor Konovalova requested the expansion of the mining efforts of the Republic in the form of another 2 mines to be delivered on Titan and 10 Automated mines on Venus with consequential built of 2 mines and 10 automated mines on Earth. The Senate was contrary on Venus while more open on Titan. As it was vital to increase the TN output, the Chancellor decided to veto the rejected motion by forcing the approval. Her political credit was already exhausted and from now on would have been way more difficult to force the Senate hand.

With nothing to lose, on the 30th of December 1940, the Chancellor found herself asking again to move some troops on the colonies and provide the needed supervision to the civilians. Due to the large investment made on Venus through the latest motion, the Senate agreed to send some troops there but still rejected to militarize Luna and Mars.

The new year 1941 started with Iaraina Konovalova’s request for some replacement guards for the battalions on Earth that were shipped on other colonies to be built. The Senate wasn’t ready yet to commit resources to the project. Meanwhile, the built of the DKM Granada LNR kickstarted the Earth-Mars Permanent line. It was time for the Chancellor to ask for the just freed resources to be invested in the colonization of Callisto and the continuation of the efforts on Titan. Eventually, more LG infrastructures were also needed to provide better support to the initiatives. With a surprise move, the colony on Callisto was finally approved by only a bunch of votes, 157 in favour and 140 against. Unfortunately, Titan expansion was instead halted for a while. To avoid possible unrest the Chancellor asked to send some extra infrastructures in advance to Callisto. With what happened on the previous term and election year at the doorstep the Senate approved.

Before the end of 1941, the Chancellor decided to start purchasing the mineral output of the civilian mines. The agreement would have ensured the delivery of a few more tons of Duranium, Corbomite, Tritanium, Boronide, and Gallicite. While the decision would provide more pressure on the economic system, it is clear that it was time for the Republic to increase the amount of TN minerals in stock. In this meaning, one of the Moon of Uranus called Puck is targeted by the Chancellor to a small mining mission. Puck had deposits of Duranium 242 Acc 1, Neutronium 3,721 Acc 1, Corbomite 1,521 Acc 1, Mercassium 9,216 Acc 1, Vendarite 144 Acc 1, and Gallicite 1,156 Acc 1. The moon could have hosted only 7 mines between manned and automated and the idea of using automated mines on a similar way they were being used on Venus was considered.

Despite the extra infrastructures sent on Callisto, on the 11th of March 1942 some unrest still started to develop. Chancellor Konovalova asked immediately for support to send an extra infrastructure shipment. The Senate rejected the motion and with no political credit left the Chancellor was left with the only option to ask for the military intervention. The Senate, however, had other plans and rejected that too. With only a few months left to the election night, nobody wanted to take chances and the project was entirely on the Chancellor's shoulder anyway. The Chancellor left with no choice but to go to the election with this weak spot. Her adversaries would have had fertile ground to attack her planning capabilities and resources management.

Chancellor Konovalova decided then to move for Puck exploitation in advance to partially mitigate the Callisto failure. While not enthusiast, the Senate decided to support the project as it was cheap and well thought. This would have been probably the latest political project for the Chancellor before concentrating entirely on the re-election campaign.

On the 24th of December 1942 the research on the new armor alloy was ready and some old designs were being marked for an update:

While the newly designed drafts were delivered to the Chancellor’s office, everything was getting ready for the election to take place.

I commend the Spanish marketing department on their impressive upselling of cryogenic storage as "luxury".  ;D  It should be a useful ship design for starting a small colony and then letting the civilian shipping lines do the rest of the work - and the low startup cost should help gain some votes in the senate!

The colonization of Sol proceeds in fits and starts - certainly a slower pace than the usual game! The Chancellor may face a stiff challenge over her handling of the Callisto colony but an astute observer would note that it is the intransigence of the senate preventing the colonists from having the good living conditions they require. Unfortunately for the Chancellor the electorate is not known for its astuteness...

ELECTIONS OF 1942

Election night was due on the 31st of December 1942.

All candidates were campaigning on different matters over the past year.

Chancellor Konovalova, for instance, was campaigning and advertising for Federal Grants. In case of her victory, she would have passed legislation to release part of the government funds to the federal courts for small projects and compensation over the government and the citizens' disputes.

The Republicans decided to retire Jorg von Purgner in favour of a new candidate to come from either Judith Steiner or Paolo Brocchi. Unfortunately, both were extremely superstitious which was probably due to the Admiral promoting people similar to his stupid belief. However, in the end, Steiner won the primaries over Brocchi probably because German and more politically reliable. She decided to focus her own campaign against the Federal Courts legislation. As highly anticipated, not only the legislation was not working as intended but it also allowed the institution of small societies able to operate above the law thanks to her connections to the local law enforcement.

Furthermore, since the religion ban, many decided to turn into freemasons and often these people were also involved in the regional politics and institutions allowing the formation of real sects. Steiner was then setting herself as the true antagonist of the Chancellor attacking every single legislation she introduced in the past years.

The only stable candidate of this run was Kevin Selig. The positions of the Trade Party leader were no different than the previous campaign and he continued to appeal to the young and the misfits through his radical Drugs Legalization proposal.

In this election, 329 Senators would have been elected to follow the classic iter of Electing a Chancellor and forming a government. Before midnight, results came in:

  • FEDERALISTS 88 The Federalist Party keeps increasing its power thanks to the popularity of the Chancellor. Sooner or later a move for the Federalization of the Republic will be made
  • PACIFISTS 70 The Pacifist Party saw the biggest growth after two complicated elections. Naturally in favour of a true Democracy, they must not be underestimated
  • TRADE 77 As in the past election, the Trade Party will be the real decider of either a Republican or Democrat government. Another outstanding result for them
  • NATIONALISTS 78 If we consider the overall growth of electors and population, the same 78 seats obtained by the Nationalist Party is pretty much a step back in respect to the previous election
  • MILITARISTS 14 After performing above every expectation, the Militarist Party dropped drastically in this election

The new senators proceeded then to the election of the Chancellor. The first round of preferences saw Iaraina Konovalova gaining 43.73% of the preferences with Kevin Selig and Judith Steiner ending up with respectively 29.97% and 25.99% of the preferences. The preliminary results when then very similar to the ones in the previous election. However, Iaraina was losing ground in the first round.

As per the constitution, the 3rd candidate would have then been forced to drop his candidacy allowing for a final vote to be held between the first and the second. Again was the candidate of the Republicans, Vizeadmiral Judith Steiner, to have been forced out from the run. As already happened, the Republicans were more comfortable in governing along with a known Chancellor and decided to pledge their supporters to vote to confirm the Konovalova. Steiner, which campaigned hard against Konovalova’s ideals, was extremely disappointed and announced that she would have not represented the party in the next election.

As a result, many Republicans decided not to support either candidate and the final results of 59.94% for the Chancellor were more than enough to counter the 40.06% of her rival’s preferences in the end. Iaraina Konovalova was then confirmed as Chancellor of the Deutsche Republik for the third time. She had the chance of starting a legacy that would have shaped the Republic for a very long time.

The Elected Chancellor proceeded then to analyze the coalition declaration of the senators. The possible Coalition numbers were as following:

  • PACIFISTS 108
  • REPUBLICANS 207
  • TRADE PARTY 136
  • DEMOCRATS 202
  • WAR PARTY 58

MAJORITY 164 seats

The Chancellor proceeded to declare the winning coalition. With only the Republican or Democrat coalition sitting above the majority, the decision should have been to appoint either one. However, considering the Republican support this time was scarce and the fact that their leader had been constantly attacking her, Iaraina declared the Democrats as the leading coalition for the Senate. While this was the official reason, the truth was that many in the Senate were constantly voting against the Chancellor over the past two terms even for simple resolutions. Eventually, many others attached their support to the Konovalova’s government only if the Federal Grants legislation would have been dropped in favour of a more Republican-friendly resolution.

The Democrats which were again only a few votes away from power were caught by surprise. Eventually, the alliance between the Federalists and the Republicans was not providing the much-coveted fruits and the refrain in cooperating to deliver the Chancellor’s legislation was only the last straw to convince Iaraina in jumping ship. During her settlement speech, the Chancellor elected ratified immediately her Federal Grants Legislation which the Senate would have discussed and approved within the first 100 days of the term thanks to her new agreement with the Democrats.

Finally, the Democrats were still in a good position to govern thanks to an opposition that would have then been composed by 125 seats against the 202 of the leading majority with over 61% of the total seats and even better than the previous Republican term.

This election had also seen a further increase in the number of people voting with the 29.12% of the population actually deciding to exercise their rights for an increase of 1.45% and a total of 452.28 million people over the total eligible population of 1,130.70 million.

NOTE: This is the last election with the old file. I am testing a new balancing patch that included the removal of the Pacifists as a coalition and the Introduction of the Federalists previously available only under Federalist government type. The reason is to have more uniform coalition that would allow me and the player to clearly understand when there is a need to change the government. This will also make more meaningful the custom coalitions and all the politics that comes with it.

Über alles in der Welt - 1943/1946
« Reply #33 on: November 03, 2021, 04:11:47 AM »

1943 - 1946

On the first day of her third mandate, Iaraina Konovalova decided that she could have not waited for the completion of the increased mining capabilities projects before committing any new production, so on the 19th of January 1943 she asked for Callisto and Titan colonies to be refilled with few extra colonists and mines trying to force the Senate hand on the matter. 2 new plans were drafted to also add another 10 automated mines on Venus. While the Senate was reluctant into sending more colonists to mining colonies they agreed to expand all the mineral operations. Considering the major concern was the situation on Callisto where colonists were striking every few months regularly, the Chancellor asked for a round of extra installations to be delivered. The Senate agreed pleased by the fact that its voice was finally being heard by the Chancellor. Eventually, the new Federalist – Trade partnership was already bearing its fruits.

However, as expected, on the 5th of March 1943 a shortage of Corundium avoided the completion of the automated mines projects just 2 weeks before the delivery of the New Mining systems research project that would have increased the mining capacity of the Republic. It was then decided to suspend the production and give time to the stockpiles to be refilled. Eventually, the treasury was also again in red and a production break would have favoured the finances. As the research laboratories were now able to work on a new project and with so many small deposits of minerals scattered around the Sol system, setting up individual colonies could have meant too much trouble. A solution to have ships orbiting around asteroids and mine the TN minerals directly from there was then understudied and prioritized by the government.

Despite her best efforts though, a few months later, the Chancellor decided to decrease the amount of new Automated Mines to be produced from 10 to 5 due to the long wait needed to actually have more resources available to invest in the project and that could have instead been diverted elsewhere.

On the 13th of October 1943 signs the completion of Sol geological survey and with the eyes now been laid on other systems the scientific community started to wonder if Humanity would have ever been able to overcome the distance between systems. It was also decided that once back on Earth all geological ships would have been decommissioned to save up on maintenance costs. In the end, the possibilities to use them in the near future were slim if non-existent.

In 1944 the production of maintenance supplies was stopped after having reached the 15,000 units allowing to use the minerals on different matters. Eventually, the Chancellor asked for new support to continue the colonization of Callisto and Titan previously interrupted. Due to a shortage of workers on Titan, the mission was approved by the Senate with a large majority, while the mission on Callisto is again delayed till January 1945 which is also when the decommission of the 4 Mercalli was finally signed off. Immediately after, Chancellor Konovalova asked for the construction of new infrastructures to continue supporting the colonization efforts on both Callisto and Titan. The Senate approved with an impressive 306 votes in favour and only 21 against.

On the research front, the new Orbital Mining Module was finally ready. Unfortunately, the module could have actually mined only bodies with a radius of a maximum of 120km. A new ship design was proposed:

The DKM Littorio-Nta designed by the Italians would have guaranteed a 5-year mission and 500 tons of TN minerals harvested from distant bodies per ship. Cheaper than sending colonists or expensive automated mines and mass drivers, a few of these ships would have provided a steady supply of TN minerals every few years boosting the stockpile of the most critical resources. While further studies could be conducted to extend the operational capabilities to a 160km radius the Chancellor preferred to put her eyes on another project. With Earth struggling for fuel due to the impossibility of keeping up with Sorium requests from the refineries, the Konovalova wanted a way to extrapolate the Sorium found on many Gaseous Planets that could have not hosted any mine due to their planetary composition to be found. If anything would have been discovered, then the inevitable fuel crisis could have been averted or at least delayed.

While waiting for this new technology to be discovered and to allow the production of the new class of mining ships, the Chancellor ordered to resume construction of the 5 old Hatsukaze started now almost 7 years ago. They would have then finally been completed in May 1945. Eventually, a mission to resupply installations on Callisto and Titan was requested by the Chancellor to the Senate which decided to agree on the Callisto support due to a slight increase in unrest, while Titan’s support was set aside for the time being.

The beginning of 1946 marked the start of both the election year and the biggest economic crisis of the Republic. Without any further construction of Financial Centres, it would have been almost impossible to get out of it unless some importation of TN minerals from the civilian sector would have been halted for a while. Chancellor Konovalova decided to put the matter for a vote but was not prepared to accept a no for an answer in the attempt of interrupting the TN minerals supply. Therefore, the possibility of using some of her political power to veto the resolution was in the cards from the start. As expected, the Senate decided to reject her motion forcing the hand of the Chancellor in putting the veto and get the construction allowed anyway.

Though, Iaraina Konovalova understood where the Senate was coming from. With such a dire situation on the Republic finances, how could have the government been able to afford and support more debt? That is why, in the end, she decided to halt the mineral importation until the production of the Financial Centres would have been completed. Right before the end of the year, the research team finally came up with a prototype of Sorium harvester. Such a module would have allowed an orbital station or ship to isolate the Sorium from the Gas Giants and refine it directly into fuel, which was even a better product than the one the Chancellor asked them. As the operation was vital for the Republic, the Chancellor tasked a team of German designers for the prototype:

CLASS: DKM Bismarck-NTa

The team designed a very slow ship that would have just needed to reach the destination before starting to produce fuel. Without a technology available to pull any object in space that seemed the only viable solution. The logistic chain back to Earth could have been then completed either by the current Garibaldi class Tanker or eventually by the same Bismarck class. Thanks to this design, the Chancellor realized how much a technology able to move engineless ships and stations in space would have been useful for the future expansion plans of the Republic, so she ordered to start researching on this field immediately. Iaraina also decided that it was important for her to be focused on her re-election campaign and she wouldn’t have put forward any other motion for this mandate, even if the tension in Callisto was rising again and perhaps further help and work was needed.

Meanwhile, both Judith Steiner and Kevin Selig resigned their positions as Party Leaders leaving their seats respectively to Vizeadmiral Paolo Brocchi and Hilde Schussler. The race for Chancellorship term 1947-1950 was then just at the beginning.

Über alles in der Welt - Election of 1946
« Reply #34 on: November 05, 2021, 04:27:00 AM »

Elections of 1946

On the 31st of December 1946, everything was getting ready for election night.

The Republic so far had a stable government with strong Federalist's influences and Nationalists ideals for the early years while more Capitalistic in the later years. Iaraina Konovalova gained the title of Chancellor for 3 terms in a row for a total of 12 years of power. Important legislations were approved during her terms and overall her motion approval was 59.04% with 49 passed motions out of the 83 proposed. These do not count the flipped motions by veto rights. The hardest term so far was the second where only 16 motions out of 30 were approved with only the 53.33% approval rate, barely enough to avoid a non-confidence vote. This led the Chancellor to change her allegiance and grow apart from the Republican party and ideals and get more close to the Democrats and their powerful trade lobbies.

Konovalova’s view of the Republic resulted in exponential growth of the mining sector. Colonies were present on Luna (1.47m people), Mars (0.8m people), Callisto (0.91m people), and Titan (0.56m people). Luna and Mars had also regular flights in and out of the planet once a week. The mining outposts in Titan and Callisto had respectively 6 and 4 mines already active with Titan also having the first extraterrestrial military contingency. Automated mining colonies were also present on Puck and Venus, where 7 and 25 automated mines were providing 826 tons of TN minerals per year to Earth. The Civilian sector thrived as well with 4 Civilian Mining Colonies established on as many bodies. However, it wasn’t all roses and flowers.

Callisto was struggling for the majority of the latest term with riots and strikes. The treasury was heavily indebted causing production clogs. The mineral availability situation (scarce) wasn’t helping either.

Chancellor Konovalova decided then to campaign on the institution of a Federal Reserve. As said, the continuous economic crisis and shortage of cash, was a problem that affected her every term. While mostly caused by bad management from the government, Iaraina used the events as an excuse to spin the narrative of her bad spending into a more generalized system fault that needed to be rectified. Under the new legislation, the federal treasury would have been allowed to manage inflation, supervise the banking system, maintain the stability of the financial system, and provide banking services to other banks and credit institutions. The Treasury delegates would have been selected by the Chancellor but approved by the Senate at the start of every term to ensure trusted members would have been always in charge of the operations.

Besides the Konovalova, the other candidates were almost all new faces. Paolo Brocchi, the Republican candidate, was in fact already near to winning the primaries in his party before the Steiner was the preferred last-minute choice. With her out of the way, the disciplined Italian was the only one left to pick up the party and try to build a long-lasting legacy. His cautious approach drove all his strategies. First of all, he did not commit to any particular legislation, but he advocated that such important decisions were more a state affair and should have been treated as such. He then assured that the new majority would have discussed and approved the best legislation for the Republic if he would have been elected as Chancellor of the Republic. With so much uncertainty around, it seemed unlikely that many people would have committed to a preference for the Republican representatives, however, Paolo would have been extremely popular in the Senate, always thirsty for more power.

The true new face of the campaign was instead Hilde Schussler. Vizeadmiral of the Deutsche Marine, true German, and backed by the Trade Party along with other minor lobbies, the Schussler was the true contender for the Chancellorship. The Teutonic woman was known for her egomaniac personality and to promote only people recommended by a small circle of trust on a nepotistic based selection. She presented a piece of legislation to promote a series of consumer benefits to restart the economy which was clearly not her doing but mostly a compromise reached in exchange for being appointed as head of the party.

In this election, 352 Senators would have been elected to follow the classic iter of Electing a Chancellor and forming a government.

While results were still being confirmed, a rumour of some sections already been fully scrutinized started to circulate in many places. The possibility of the election being rigged somehow was increasing by the hour. Some sections had numbers which despite having only 5 allocated seats, 6 were due to be assigned as the number of valid votes were higher than the constituents of the region allowing extra seats to be recognized. All parties agreed immediately to reset the system and to start over the process while asking that police forces would have been also present in each voting station. Due to this requirement, the number of voting centres had to be cut by 1/3 causing massive delays and queues.

In the colonies, where no police forces were present, the only allowed station would have been the city hall.

Despite the chaos, results still managed to come in before midnight:

  • FEDERALISTS 122 The Federalist Party were finally the leading party in the Senate
  • PACIFISTS 37 after the latest positive term, the lack of ambition along with the inability to leave a mark, left the party with minimal popularity and appeal
  • TRADE 64 Unexpected result for the trade. Many people believed that they were behind the attempted electoral fraud and decided to do not to vote while as many thought that a vote for the Trade was a vote for the Federalists so they decided instead to vote the Federalists direclty
  • NATIONALISTS 110 The Nationalists managed to use the rigged election to their advantage by staging media campaigns outside the voting centres and leveraging the sense of patriotism and rigour lost by the other parties
  • MILITARISTS 17 A similar result to the previous term. With no wars or threats on the horizon, it was very hard for the Militarists to campaign due to the lack of relevant topics

The new senators proceeded then to the election of the Chancellor. The first round of preferences saw Iaraina Konovalova gaining 42.86% of the preferences with Hilde Schussler and Paolo Brocchi ending up with respectively 31.14% and 26.00% of the preferences. For the first time, the preliminary results saw another candidate registering more than 30% of the preferences besides the Konovalova. As per the constitution, the 3rd candidate would have then been forced to drop his candidacy allowing for a final vote to be held between the first and the second. As usual, was the candidate of the Republicans to have been forced out from the run and while a speech from Brocchi was due and waited, he decided to do not to give any leaving the Republican ranks perplexed on what conduct to follow.

As a result, many Republicans decided to vote with their own conscience and the final result of 56.29% for the Chancellor against the 43.71% of her rival’s preferences was the lowest win she ever recorded. Despite that, Iaraina Konovalova was confirmed again as Chancellor of the Deutsche Republik for the fourth time. The Elected Chancellor proceeded then to analyze the coalition declaration of the senators. The possible Coalition numbers were as follows:

  • FEDERALISTS 162
  • REPUBLICANS 160
  • TRADE PARTY 137
  • DEMOCRATS 124
  • WAR PARTY 133

MAJORITY 176 seats

Due to the poor performances the Pacifist Coalition submit a request to be not included in the current and future elections. A new coalition took over the vacancy then under the Federalist Coalition name. This changed drastically the composition of all the other coalitions due to the withdrawal of the support of many of the Federalist elected candidates to both Republicans and Democrats with also many other Senators joining the War Party ranks.

With the majority set on 176 seats, it was clear that no standard coalitions were able to form a stable government.  The responsibility fell then on the Chancellor's shoulders. Of course, she wanted the Federalists to have been part of the government and the 122 seats would have contributed already by 34.86% out of the 50.01% required. The Konovalova started then canvassing all possible scenarios:

NATIONALISTS – TRADE               49.71%
FEDERALISTS – TRADE                 53.14%
FEDERALISTS – NATIONALISTS     66.29%

The streets were apparently only 2: either ally herself with the Nationalists and form a very powerful government similar to her second term or with the Trade and continue on the road laid on the latest term. As the latest experience with the Trade wasn’t bad and with a 66.67% motion approval rate that led to using only 1 veto through the whole term, Chancellor Konovalova started to negotiate immediately with Hilde Schussler. Assuming the Trade had all interests in dealing with them due to the impossibility of allying with the Nationalists, Iaraina started the meeting with all the plans on how to continue the good work done in the past and how the 2 parties would have been able to change the Republic for the greater good.

At the end of the speech, Vizeadmiral Schussler reminded the Chancellor that her role was to form a government within the Senate, not a government of her liking. Surprised by the answer, the Chancellor asked Schussler to explain herself better. It was only then that she admitted that while the plan of the Chancellor was appealing, there was still nothing in for the Trade Party. Here we were, the old bargaining political way of the Republic. Visibly disappointed, Iaraina started to walk towards the door when the Vizeadmiral suggested that a Republican government would have perhaps suited best a Republic.

A chill on the Chancellor’s spine rushed right up through her head: the Pacifists!

NATIONALISTS – TRADE – PACIFISTS  60.29%

Without any intention of compromising her career by falling again on the Nationalists arms, she walked back to the chair and asked directly what would have taken for the Trade to form the government with the Federalists. The demands were many and harsh:

  • To drop the Federal Reserve legislation in favour of the Consumer Benefits project
  • To retire at the end of the term
  • To accept that all her political power was drained and no Veto would have been possible during her last term

Cornered between the risk of losing her Chancellorship and legacy by the hand of Nationalists backstabbers and retiring after an anonymous term, it was easy to go for the latter. Once back in Senate, the Chancellor proceeded to declare the winning coalition as an alliance between the Federalists and the Trade. During her settlement speech, the Chancellor elected ratified immediately the Consumer Benefits legislation which the Senate would have discussed and approved within the first 100 days of the term thanks to her new agreement with the Vizeadmiral Schussler. She also announced her retirement at the end of the term. She thanked all the members of the Senate for the honour she had received by them that allowed her to serve the country for such a long time. To show her respect she would have not applied any veto to the motions during her last term, or at least that was the way she advertised the previous accords in a timid attempt to save the face.

Finally, the alliance was still in a good position to govern thanks to an opposition that would have then been composed by 166 seats against the 186 of the leading majority with just over 53% of the total seats and more than the required 50.01%.

This election had also seen a further increase in the number of people voting with the 30.58% of the population actually deciding to exercise their rights for an increase of 1.46% and a total of 483.15 million people over the total eligible population of 1,150.36 million.

Interesting politicking in the last few updates. Moves are being made to stabilize the economy, but there is still a lot of work to be done and hopefully in the next few years Konovalova can complete this work - otherwise, who knows what the next Chancellor will do?! The election of, I think, 1950 will be pivotal.
