The Solar Empire of Pharaoh Nachtahmedt the Immortal

(1/4) > >>

DrBladeSTEEL:
The forests burned, the seas rose, and there was no peace.  As the climate wars raged, sparked by drought, displacement, storm and sea, humanity came apart at the seams.  The strong nations of the earth fought and struggled for the remaining resources, fueled and spurred by the old devils of nationalism, zealotry, and racial hatred.  The weak simply perished, collapsing under the weight of their own populations as crops withered and oceans drowned whole cities.

Then, he came.  Emerging from the shattered bones of the great desert like a resurrected god from days of old.  He and his sons brought order to the madness of north Africa, and by his divine power there was once again food for the hungry, and water for the thirsty.  He was Nachtahmedt, and through him humanity would be restored.  His armies marched out from Heliopolis, from the atomic ash of a ruined nation, and brought to heel all the nations of the earth.

His body was immortal, his sons demigods of unparalleled might, and though wise counsel and his great wisdom the great follies of ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’ were made right.  The zealot was purged, the nationalist relocated.  Those who stood willfully blind to the reality that all of mankind must be equals in service to the God-Emperor were shown the error of their ways, or otherwise made useful.  Many cried of oppression, of the horrible fate of all who permitted such a tyrant to rule… but no contortion of truth could deny that the Pharaoh had rescued humanity from an age so dark it dared no contemplation.

Years passed, the world healed slowly, and the Empire of Nachtahmedt rebuilt the shattered vestiges of humanity into one cohesive group, motivated and unified by common purpose, and stripped of the divisors of the old world.  It was not a perfect world, but it was the world which would become the epicenter of a new galactic empire…

It is the 26th year of the reign of Pharaoh Nachtahmedt the Immortal, emperor of all mankind.  Oracle Masozi Mahatwahmedt has published her first report to the royal scientific commission about the existence of trans-Newtonian materials, and the Pharaoh himself has ordered this to become the top priority of research.

The stars shall be his, just as the earth.

Summary

The Trans-Newtonian Industrial revolution continues unabated, with the Pharaoh's factories and refineries beginning to leverage the incredible potential of the newly discovered materials.  Current projections estimate full completion by the 50th year of his ascension, but with the rapidly increasing capacity of the imperial industrial base that projection might shorten significantly.  His excellence is eager to begin construction of additional commercial shipyards, but in his great wisdom has ordained the modernization of industry first.

Additionally, his majesty's existing voidcraft infrastructure project is making similar strides in capability and capacity.  Though originally crafted from conventional materials launched into space via mass driver and skyhook, the incredible strength of neutronium has provided the ability for rapid expansion to take place within the fleet yards, with commercial yard capacity reaching 50mt and his Majesty's naval yard reaching 3kt.  His excellency has commanded a design study of the commercial voidcraft that will be needed to exploit the resources being discovered by the geological survey craft commissioned last year.  The preliminary results have demonstrated that our ability to produce radioisotope engines of a suitable size is lacking, though Tayuheret-Amennestawy Void Propulsion has developed a very robust engine for small commercial vessels that shows great promise for lesser craft.

From a technological standpoint, initial investments in cryogenic transportation utilizing TNM are being accelerated with the prospects of interplanetary colonization becoming more likely in the near future.  Engine technology, especially the ability to produce engines up 400t, is still a high priority, as current engine performance is insufficient for the efficient transportation of goods and colonists at anything approaching a trans-planetary distance.  Adaptation of current terraforming technology continues, and we have high hopes that the new TNM will be able to help us repair some of the damage done during the age of carbon fuels.  His excellency is perturbed at the lack of suitable scientists for weapons research, but as there is no immediate need for void warcraft he is content to await a rising star.

Major crop failures in the American Midwest due to drought this season, grain reserves remain stable, but rationing has been put in place and a portion of sub-saharan africa's yield has been diverted to relive the pressure.  Nuclear decontamination of the Levanent continues, with the incredible radiation absorbant properties of Boronide raising the prospects of habitation in that area within this century.  New estimates put the residual cobalt 60 contamination at acceptable levels by year 43, with the Moscow exclusion zone being lifted by 31.  Eradication of malaria has been confirmed, as no cases have been reported this year or last.

The Council for Voidcraft Design has been founded, with members selected from both the royal shipyard staff as well as the admiralty to advise his excellence on the construction of spacefaring vessels and the infrastructure to support them.  The Commission for the Transition to Trans-Newtonian materials have had their charter renewed by his Majesty, with their dissolution expected in 55.  The Royal Astronomer Corps has had it's charter expanded to include the management of geological survey data and mining rights, and has formed the office of exogeology to handle this task.   The Pharaoh's new temple in Beijing has begun construction, and is expected to be completed in year 38.  This will become the new administrative epicenter for the east Asian administrative region, with it's subsidiary offices in Dehli, Singapor, and Ulaanbaatar.

The Royal office for administrative accountability completed the audit of greater Appalachia, giving the office as a whole a rating of B-, and resulting in the removal of seventeen administrative personnel.  Two have been executed for gross misappropriation of Royal Property.  The Appalachian fisheries and wildlife commission received a laudation for exceptional process improvement, and their licensing system will begin to be implemented in other NA natural resource offices.  The ROAA would also like to acknowledge warden Andrew Bosset for exceptional bravery in bringing forward evidence during the investigation, he has served his lordship faithfully and been richly rewarded.

Howdy y'all!

Thank you for taking the time to read my rather self-indulgent space spreadsheet story, I started this conventional empire yesterday and felt that sharing it would help my immersion in this little world I'm creating.  I hope to include ship class designs as they are developed, though those will probably get their own posts.

Special thank you to Steve for making this banger little sim!

DrBladeSTEEL:
A royal decree, made on the 91st day of in the 31st solar year of his ascendency.

These are the words of the Pharoah, he who sits on the throne, by whose will mankind was saved:
"The bounty of the heavens is manifest, the potential of our home system finally within our grasp.  It is my will that these abundant resources be tapped, and brough to serve humanity as we reach for the greater unknown beyond Sol's warm light.  Every effort shall be bound to this task, and I do not doubt my loyal servants shall rise to the occasion.

I Nahtahmedt, do decree:
- Luna shall become the first jewel of the Empire, to be settled as soon as vessels and infrastructure is avaliable.
- As we repair the damage done by the sins of our fathers, so too shall we begin to bring mars to life.
- In the cradle of Jupiter's rings, the mines of Ganymede shall provide the Corundum to leverage
- Earth possesses not the Sorium to sustain us, and so great Jov must help us until we can venture beyond for this dearly needed fuel.

I have also instructed the office of Xenogeology to begin issuing licenses to exploit the resources of comets and asteroids, and those who seek fortune and favor in my sight are encouraged to go and bring forth the bounties of the system's lesser bodies to Earth.

Behold, a new era for humanity begins in earnest: for now we begin our expansion into the void!"

DrBladeSTEEL:
Few events in the pre-jump era of Nachthamedt's reign were as influential to the course of its history than the Lunar Riots of 39y. a.

Sparked by irrational and baseless fears of xenos invasion after a Lunar citizen found what would later turn out to be a communications antenna detached by a meteorite impact, the sparks of hysteria would be fanned by latent members of an as-of-yet unknown underground separatist movement on Luna herself.  Poor handling by the planetary governor, as well as insufficient policing forces due to budgetary prioritization of the trade and tourism sectors permitted this madness to grow, until finally boiling over in the first of a series of demonstrations in Copernicus square on the 4th day of .  The protesters, demanding something be done to secure them from the xenos invasion fleet surely lurking in the blackness of the void, were ordered to disband by the governor and the planetary constabulary.  Upon the frenzied and panicked lunatics refusal, the order was given to disperse again, this time accompanied by tear gas.

The insufficient forces of the planetary police were made obvious shortly after, as swirling claims of xenos conspiracy plunged much of Luna's capital into panic and looting before the police were eventually able to finally able to drive the rioters off the streets and back into their homes.  A period of great tension followed, with the colony bracing for another unexpected wave of panic and chaos, added to by the knowledge that when the peacekeepers finally reached Luna, the Pharoah's retribution would be as swift as it was brutal.  Those loyal citizens caught in the throes of their worst inequity worked tirelessly to atone, even going so far as to report neighbors, friends, coworkers, et al to the planetary police in hopes of gaining some remission from the thrown spear of Nacthahmedt that was soon to crater the surface of their home. . .

The Pharoah had been most displeased to hear of the unrest, not least because it reached him in the midst of a festival celebrating the birthday of one of his most beloved sons, Sekem-ra.  This would not be the first of irritants to his worship with regards to the situation however, as upon an emergency meeting of Lord Admiral Netihur and Executor Pentu he was informed that not only had the planetary police failed to address the riots, the Royal Peacekeeping Corps had declined the planned Amon class Police Cutters in favor of a nebulous plan to adapt a Duma class at some future juncture as a troop transport.   This left the force responsible for quelling the riots unable to respond until an emergency build could be constructed to transport them.

The 1-3rd Royal Peacekeeper Departments did eventually arrive on Luna, escorting the planetary governor, those responsible for the rumors and falsehoods, and many of the separatists onto the colony ship New Horizons, bound for Ganymede to become the first of many prisoners to toil in the Corundium mines on that barren snowball.  These penitent laborers would not be the only thing to result from the incident, as by royal decree a series of military restructurings known as the Tychan Reforms would result, stemming from a realization that the empire was indeed unprepared to face threats from beyond the Kuiper belt.  In less than five years time, the Empire would see its conventional military, wet navy, and atmospheric corps all dissolved, and the beginnings of the Imperial Army and Royal Navy that would reach into the stars laid down.

In summary, the Lunar Riots provided the Empire with a much-needed wakeup call.  No longer could it ignore the threat of the alien, nor could the colonies be trusted with such quaint and antiquated concepts such as self-governance.  It reminded us as a species that without the guiding light of the Pharoah, he who sits on Earth and gazes into heavan, we would surely fall into madness, destruction, and utter destitution.
