If you want Methane breathers:

Generate systems until you get a nice looking one.
Create a random race/faction on the future homeworld.
Use SM mode to edit the atmosphere (now that you have colony on the planet) so that it has 20% Methane atmosphere.
Use SM mode to delete the race completely.
Create a new race that is going to be your player race on that homeworld.
You now have a Methane breathing race.

Use SM to edit the body's gasses and reduce the oxygen content until the 'Dangerous Gas' notification disappears.

How can I create a race then, which uses different breathable atmosphere? Or can handle higher oxygen levels?

Oxygen over 0.3 atm is a Dangerous Gas.

VB6 Aurora V7.1: I created a new race on a planet with 1.35G and 38% Oxygen with a total of 2 ATM. But if I place a colony of that race on that planet, it remains colony cost 2. So some parameter is off. I just can't figure out, which. Is there any way to see why there is colony cost 2? If I look at the stats of the race everything seems to fix and there are no poisonous gases on that planet... .
