Exploration Ship w/ Survey Craft, Names Pending
« on: July 12, 2021, 06:26:23 AM »
 - - I have yet to name either of these, I am still trying to come up with good names. I'm taking suggestions though, if you want to make one. :) These two ships come as a result of me wanting to make something novel for the sake of novelty. The primary purpose of the Survey Craft is to conduct Gravitational Surveys of new systems, while the six "Buoy Dropper" tubes allow it to conduct Geological Surveys via Geo Probes on promising / priority targets. Some examples of promising / priority targets would be things such as Low-CC worlds, Gas Giants during a Sorium Shortage, system bodies with orbits that pass close to JPs, etc. The Exploration Ship on the other hand has been designed chiefly for ferrying this Survey Craft through JPs and provide support to it in the form of R&R, MSP and Fuel. The rather large Jump Drive can be used for ferrying 12,000 Ton Geo Survey ships across said JPs to mop up asteroids and other less promising / less important bodies in the system. It is intended also for the carriage of 100 Geo Probes for use in the Survey Craft. When this ship returns for re-fueling / re-arming, it can pickup dedicated GeoSurvey Ships to drop them off at systems that are not yet fully surveyed. As time wears on and these ships hit their inevitable obsolescence, the Exploration ship can be used as a second-line or rear guard FAC Tender while the Survey Craft could potentially be used to drop Orbital Bombs, which are essentially weaponized Buoys with a warhead in the place of the sensor / reactor, should the opportunity arise.
