1st April 2032
China completes development of the first operational TN missile, the YS-01A. The PLASF is planning to build this missile along with a new launch complex as a replacement to China’s ICBM arsenal. With its 40mkm range, the YS-01A will be capable of denying space around Earth between the Martian and Venusian orbits.

17th May 2032
A geology team lead by Zheng Na Wen from Shanghai University publishes a report detailing new deposits of Duranium, and at the same time speculating that this is likely to be one of the last sources found, based on analysis of surveys around the world. While scientists from other countries are initially suspicious that this might be Chinese disinformation, they will all eventually come to the same conclusion in years to come.

The IRC launches the first TN powered spacecraft, the Exploration Ship Nadezhda. A second ship is already under construction and is due in March  next year. A third is laid down, and is expected in May 2033. Nadezhda begins a survey of the inner solar system.

The NAU completes the training of the first purpose-built TN ground forces. The 8 Mobile Infantry Battalions are more powerful individually than the old Armoured Brigades in service with the NA Army. Both the IRC and the PRC are also in the process of training their own TN ground forces.

The IRC launches a second Nadezhda class, the EX Spasenie. It is ordered to survey the asteroid belt. EX Nadezhda has proceeded into the outer solar system. The shipyard will begin retooling to build colony and cargo ships pending the completion of research into cryogenic transport modules.

14th May 2033
The IRC launches the third and final Nadezhda class, the EX Otkrytie.

27th May 2033
Chinese spies steal information on Railgun Velocity from the NAU. The team, led by Shang Wei (Lieutenant) Lai Ting has been responsible for several intelligence successes against the NAU in recent years.

20th November 2033
The IRC is the first nation to complete the process of converting its old industry to use TN technology. The EAF is also nearing completion, with the NAU and EU further behind. The Chinese, due to their larger industrial base, still have a long way to go.

The NAU begins construction of its first spacecraft, a Discovery class Geological Survey Vessel. Construction will take one year.

The IRC’s leadership begins negotiating with other powers about establishing an international body to determine rights and access to bodies within the solar system. The IRC hopes that by taking the initiative here, they can take advantage of their knowledge of most of the solar systems mineral deposits. Chairwoman Bushuyev warns that it is likely the other powers will demand access to some of the geological data the IRC has gathered if they are to agree to such a deal, but as it is likely they will have their own survey ships within the next 2 years, it is an acceptable price, especially concerning the inner system.

An international conference is held in Moscow at the urging of the IRC. While the IRC tries to use the offer of geological data as a bargaining chip to weigh things in their favour, they are thwarted by the NAU’s newly launched survey ship, which puts the NAU at most 6 months from having the same data. When the IRC’s representative tries to push the issue, the NAU announces that if the IRC insists on abusing their position, they will just have to make sure that their own survey data finds its way into the public domain. After this, the IRC agrees to go along with a more even agreement.

The conference results in the formation of the Sol Mining and Colonisation Council (SMCC), a multinational body whose task is to oversee and promote the peaceful exploitation of the solar system. The first decisions made include opening the inner solar system for free colonisation, with no exclusive rights on any body in the region. The asteroid belt is opened on the principle of first come, first serve, with the emplacement of more than 50,000 people on a body being enough to claim it as sovereign property. It is agreed, despite the protests of some in the IRC, to ban government expansion beyond the asteroid belt for 5 years, until January 2040, although civilian companies may be permitted to establish mining operations there. This is seen as a measure to promote private sector interest in space. The SMCC also pledges to help any other nations on Earth who are trying to develop TN technology for the peaceful purposes of exploration.
