Empire of Nihon Armed Forces in 2063

In 2063, the Japanese have harnessed the power of Ion in their engine technology. Currently, the Imperial Japanese Navy has two spacefaring warship classes, Botan class Light Cruiser and the Hatsukaze class Cruiser. The War Ministry has production plans for a carrier based fleet by the 2070s supplemented by SNLF units for planetary invasions.

First of all, fantastic flavour for you campaign, I love it. The ground forces seem pretty solid.
But I cant help to notice some holes in your naval doctrine.
Your missile launchers fire relatively fast, but the salvo is way too small to hope to deal with any significant PD. Whilst it does look like it will rip through fighters and small craft, it will strugle to get through an enemy fleet of more significant tonnage. I would try to use some reduced size launchers to try any get a bigger salvo on the enemy, maybe even sacrificing some of that fuel. I like the idea of the 10cm lasers, small caliber lasers tend to have decent dps at medium to long ranges compared to big ones, but you might want some basic 10cm railguns for point defense, ou some reduced size gauss canons. I really like the speed on your ships, very good for the tech level, unless you are facing some tough spoilers, that speed should carry you through the ion age with some ease, even if your enemies are somewhat more advanced technologically. Oh and in case you want to make a yamato battleship, its displacement was 72000 tonnes
To beam, or not to beam.   That is the question
the answer is you beam. and you better beam hard.

Thank you for the kind words and thoughtful insight! In the campaign right now, I have researched gauss PD. In future IJN designs, I'll be sure to include a larger salvo! Will update this thread later today with my progress.

Forgive the lite After Action Report elements.

By the 2090s, the Japanese Empire has researched Internal Fusion engines. The discovery led to the massive overhaul of the IJN warships and designs. The War Ministry thanks the help of Gabethebaldandbold for his helpful insights. The IJN development bureaus have implemented Gauss PDs and increased salvos for Internal Fusion generation ships. There was a brief moment of slowed military development due to a unforeseen sorium shortage from commercial usage. However, the strategic reserve of sorium fuel has vastly increased. The first carrier Ryuho has been built and several SNLF formations were trained to accompany the new Ashigaru assault shuttles. In the shipyards, there are currently three Kongo class Destroyers and another Hosho class Battlecruiser being produced. Alien life was detected in the far reaches of explored space, the IJN are eager to test out their new ships in combat.

Meanwhile, the IJA has deployed several new Planetary Defence Emplacements across major city centers on interstellar colonies. The War Ministry has determined that the IJA's role in the Empire will be for garrison and planetary security while the IJN has charge of all planetary invasions and offensive deployments. The reorganization of the IJA has resulted in Earth Defence Command in developing the surface to orbit weapons.

There are four Planetary Defence Bases: Lacaille Planetary Defence Base, Psi Ceti Planetary Defence Base, Tokyo Planetary Defence Base, and Moscow Planetary Defence Base. The War Ministry prefers that these bases are deployed sparingly, as they are expensive and time consuming to construct.
