A Few QoL suggestions
« on: August 22, 2021, 03:13:39 PM »
First Of, Thank you Steve of the game, I've lost many-a-hour to this game and i love it.
Second, sorry if any of these have already been suggested.

1: Custom folders in Class Designer.
- The ability to create a number of folders in the class design window, name them and the ability to drag and drop ship classes into it.  For example I can name one folder "Missile Ships" and drop my Missiles Frigate and Cruiser designs into it for easier sorting.  After about 50 years in-game I have so many different designs that finding one can take what feels like too long to find.  This idea will help de-clutter the class design window and help players organize a bit more.
Additionally:
An addition to point 1 could be a "search tab" where you can input the name of the class and it shows you the ships with that name pattern.

2: Auto Assign Admin Commands.
- Essentially use the Governor auto-assign system but for Naval Admin commands.  Option would include the ability to select a minimum rank and command Bonus.  This would eliminate the micro of constantly having to re-assign naval commands especially since there is no obvious notification when a Admin command becomes vacant.

3:Custome promotion Rules.
- This is admittedly much more complex then the previous two suggestions, but i think would be much appreciated.  Some examples of custom rules would be the following:
--Limit the number of officers at certain ranks.

--Stop "auto-promotion" beyond rank X
Example would stop auto-promotions beyond CAPT.

-- Only Promote above Rank X when there is an open billet.

-- Custom promotion Ratios.
For example, say i wanted to do a Roman Campaign where Each Cohort is commanded by a Centurion, the First Cohort is commanded by a Primus Pilus, and the over all legion is Commanded by a Legatus.  That would require 9 Centurions, 1 Primus, and 1 Legatus.  So a Ration of 9:1:1 would be used as apposed to the current 9:3:1

Well, that is all i can think of now, any feedback would be appreciated.

Point 1 is the intended purpose of the ship type drop down. You can also create your own.

That's not what OP is talking about. OP is talking about having sorting folders so, for example, all the different missile ship classes (FFG, DDG, CG, etc.) can be under a "Missile Ship" folder to make it easier to find those similar classes. This is different from assigning the hull type - I don't think anyone in their right mind wants to group all of their FFG, DDG, and CG classes under a single hull type as this would be immersion-breaking and make trying to sort out ship classes in other windows like Naval Organization incredibly painful.

Oh, just remember another suggestion. It's not QoL related but it would be nice for RP.

A new stat/medal condition that tracks ground tonnage killed by sub-units. This way a Col in a support unit will get a form of "credit" for the tonnage killed by the battalions under his command.

But you can use hull types like "missile destroyer" "missile escort" etc, then they should all be next to each other in the list on the left side of the class design window. I know it's still not the same, but this is still a way of approximating what the OP is asking for, and can be done in the current version (1.13).

Missile Ships are only one example. Cargo Ship, Colony Ship, Tanker, Transport, Tug, Orbital Miner, Orbital Fuel harvester might all be categorized as Civilian, but they hardly sit next to each other alphabetically.

...and you can create your own hull types with the "New Hull" button. Civ Cargo Ship. Civ Colony Ship, Civ Tanker, etc.

Again, I'm not saying the folder idea is bad. But this is how you approximate what you're looking for.

I think the much simpler alternative to adding auto assign for naval admin, if Steve doesn't want to, is simply to add a special notification (which is accompanied by an auto-turn interruption) when a naval admin commander leaves service. Also neat would be a checkbox to add to a given rank/leader type that would trigger an interrupt when any of the leaders of said type leave service, so if you had custom promotion criteria, like the aforementioned stopping auto-promote after a given rank, you could be quite aware when a special interest leader leaves service, or this checkbox could be put on the character screen, so a warning like "special character x has retired/died." This would need to be separate from the usual leader retirement notices, which are so numerous by mid game that I turn them off, much like "commander gains skill" ones. I'd rather I could turn on these types of warning as a separate type that triggers an interrupt for special characters; I'm invested on whether Sol Sector Leader increases his Production skill, I'm NOT invested on whether Captain James McPherson learns how to pilot a fighter.

The Admin command is one of my biggest problems... right now I just put all admin commanders as Story characters and then I manually reassign them after a certain time, usually about ten to fifteen years... if not more sometimes.

Since I like to play with multiple factions this is the only way to remain sane using Admin Commanders.

There also are no way to easily find which commander have been assigned as academy leaders so I have to write down them on an external notepad and mark them as Story characters to.

At least create an event that interrupts when an Admin command is left unassigned, but some auto assignments would be much appreciated for admin commands.

I also think that we should just be able to choose the level of ratio of each officer category, easily done when creating the rank you could state the ratio for the next rank, it should be editable later on as well. I see no reason why we need to play with specific ratios as it would be way more role-play friendly having the ratios be completely controlled by the player.

I just updated the post to add a minimum rank option for each admin command, so you can have more control over the rank required for each admin command.
