Offensive mass drivers

I don't have aurora installed atm, but I was curious as to if you could use mass drivers offensively.

 You would  have a freighter ship in an automated mine and a mass driver to a system that has a hostile population, designate that planet a colony, then set the mass driver destination to the planet.

has this been tried?
do nprs use mass drivers?
will it blend!?

Right up until the target population builds/has a mass driver - then all it does is send them minerals.

If you mean defensively, it's automatic, as long as they have one on the planet.

If you mean do they build mass drivers ever?  Not sure. I'd be surprised if they did not, but you'd have to ask someone who can check it in designer mode. Note that the MD code already allows for populations to surrender when bombarded, so Steve probably thought of this long ago.

I have seen NPRs with Mass Drivers on their homeworld and on colonies.
