Military academies and leaders
« on: August 16, 2020, 05:22:35 AM »
Hello,

I have this bad habit of build 7 military academies per colony. I name them for RP flavor, the Institute for Terraforming Research, Ultramarine Psyops Center, Mercury Institute of Technology and so on... this habit generates thousands of Naval Commanders, fewer Ground Commanders for comparison I have 1200 lower rank Naval Commanders but I only have 260 lower rank Ground Commanders, I believe this was already discussed in another thread. My real problem comes on the increment, it slows down the game, I believe it's related to the retirement and health check, so my work around was to purge the commander table in the DB. Does anyone have encountered this problem and have another solution?

I think that if you assign a ground commander to an academy, that academy will "drop" ground commanders. The same with scientifics and administrators. As you have a bunch of academies, you can specialized each one in a field :)

From http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php?topic=8495.msg104092#msg104092 :
"... The normal distribution of new commander types from the academy is 60% Naval, 25% ground, 8% Admin, 7% Scientist. While a Commandant is assigned, a check is made to see if an commander of the same type as the Commandant is generated. If the check fails, the normal distribution is followed. The chance is 14% for a Scientist Commandant to generate a Scientist, 16% for an Administrator Commandant to generate an Administrator, 40% for a Ground Forces Commandant to generate a ground forces officer and 80% for a Naval Commandant to generate a naval officer. ..."

"... This new rule should allow specialisation of academies on different worlds. Don't forget that you can set up a military academy on any colony, not just those with a population. ..."

There are lots of other things that contribute to the game slowing down over time.
Did you notice if purging the commander table actually worked to speed up the game?
Did you also purge all of the other tables related to commanders (bonuses, history, etc.)?
