I cant seem to get my ships to fire missiles at the ships trying to kill them.    I have a missile fire control, Range 33.  6m km    Resolution 100, and a missile launcher firing missiles with a Range: 1 048.  6m km  (yes i know  my fire control and missile range are off by a huge factor)  The enemy ship is 9800 tons, so the fire control should have no problems locking on.

The ships have 100 missiles, so ammo inst the problem.
Auto fire was on
I assigned missiles to the missile launchers
tried going to the ship, manually selecting targets fro fire control and clicking open fire

eventually the ship got to point blank range (300k) and my ships started firing from only one of their 6 missile launchers, and only firing the weak anti-missile missiles, not my anti-ship missiles).    So also wondering why only 1 out of 6 missiles were firing now

Autofire is buggy as hell so far as I am aware, try turning it off and manually opening fire.

I have a theory, on the combat window for the ship is your short ranged fire control the first one listed on the drop down menu?
Excuse me if I'm wrong but your problem might be related to misassigned launcher/firefontrol.
Turn off auto fire, as far as I recall it's buggy. Also it will only use the first fire control.
Now here's the basic order for missile combat.
First: assign missiles to each launcher.
Second: assign each launcher to a fire control. Make sure it's the long range 100 resolution one.
Third: if the target is in range it will appear in the list beside the selected firefontrol , select the target and assign it.
Then select open fire.
Firing may take a minute if the crew is very inexperienced, you'll get a message in the events window about the ship preparing to fire.

Thanks for the help! Got it to finally work.   It was defiantly was auto-fire.

Is there any way to reduce the micro management?  like telling all ships in a fleet to lock on to a target , or telling a ship to fire 10 missiles then stop, telling the fleet to start/stop firing, or auto assign all missiles to launchers for all ships in a fleet.  Managing each ship late game sounds like it becomes painful to micromanage

There are ways of reducing a lot of that using formations, you can copy orders or send the same orders to the rest of the ships of the same class in the group, I can't give a good tutorial ATM, but you might find the options if you dig around.

I know this is very old post. However I am having the same issue.
I have assigned missiles to the launchers.
I have assigned launchers to the fire control.
That all works up to that point.
I do get a list of enemy contacts.
I select any enemy ship and assign the fire control to target it and that part fails.
I can not get the fire control to manually lock on to a target.
I am well in range. The enemy has 40% ecm offset.
I have a fire control range of 109m/km for HS40 (2000 ton) target.
The actual range to target is 20m/km the target ship is 7900 ton target.
The missile range is 60m/km.
I have an AWACS providing the active sensor portion of the targeting info.
None of my missile fire controls will lock onto an enemy ship in manual or auto target mode.
None of my pd missiles will fire either in pd mode.
I believe when you put the anti missile fire control into pd mode you are supposed to get some sort of feedback that the fire control is set up correctly.
I get nothing. The fire control does turn orange when I click on open fire.
The anti missile ship has a fire control range of 110m/km for HS1 target and the anti missile missile range is 10m/km
They never fire. I can track incoming missiles out to a range of 5m/km.

How can I fix this?
