this message pops up whenever I try to run Aurora. exe. How can I fix this so I can start playing?
-
Where have you installed Aurora?
If its in Program Files or a subdirectory of that then there are sometimes access permission issues (especially with newer versions of Windows)
I install in a separate directory (C:\Games\Aurora) to avoid this.
-
C:\Aurora 4x
-
Try installing into a directory with no space in it. If that doesn't work try running as administrator?
-
I have downloaded again into C:\Aurora, same error result. when I run as administrator, nothing at all happens.
-
What file are you using? Where did you download it from?

Unfortunately most of the information I can find online about error code 0xc00000e5 relates to Comodo antivirus software and comes from 2016/2017.
What version of Windows are you using?
Is this a recent Windows install or have you been using it for a while?
What antivirus software are you using?
Are you having any issues with other software?

thank you for investigating. Windows 10 for quite a while now. AVG anti-virus software. I am not experiencing any other issues but I will disable AVG and do a new download/install.
-
tried a fresh download/install with no AV running and came up with the same error message
-
There were numerous reported issues with this error, caused by AVG, with different apps as victims (sometimes nearly all executables on the disk affected).
It were fixed in some cases by uninstalling AVG (and NOT installing it again), yet in some cases they needed a restore procedure to a point, where AVG was not yet installed. In some cases only clean Windows install was able to fix it.

ah, ok well thank you. I'll give that some thought and report back if I get Aurora running
-
I uninstalled AVG and components, downloaded and installed v1. 13. 0 again and everything works fine. thank you for your help
-
Great to hear that you got it sorted, welcome to the crazy fun that is Aurora.
-
Yet another reason never to use AVG - this is not the first such case with that program.

please for the love of all that is Holy unless you are an Enterprise save your money and don't pay for AV/AM software Windows Defender is more than good enough for personal computers ( source me a security engineer)

Over the last month McAfee has started recognizing Aurora.exe as a virus. Never happened to me before, have always run McAfee with Aurora. My Aurora is installed as C:\Aurora. I keep restoring it but only once have I managed to run Aurora
McAfee classes it as:

I agree... I even stopped using AV applications eons ago as they are just bloatware if you know what you are doing. I have been a computer engineer pretty much all my life. I used to give it to my family members though who I did not trust to handle stuff properly, but today Windows Defender is good enough... have not installed any AV applications on any computers for many years.

Yup, absolutely agree. Just uninstall your AV, they are pretty much useless now and just make life more difficult.
