Assembly and fast assembly rates
« on: November 17, 2006, 10:56:59 AM »
Steve, just noticed that SA reports assembly and fast assembly rates for MSx as half of what they should be, but assigning the full rate to a project. This has the effect of only allowing half as many projects as MS in the complex. It assigns the correct capacities to SY and SYM.

SA has a constant showing the assembly rate as half for Machine shops. I checked the Unified Rules and it appears that MS are identical to SY except they cannot construct ships. I am not sure why the half rate is in there but it must be from an earlier rule that was superseded. Corrected for the next version.

I think that's from ISF or SM2, I'll check later.

Well, I now have no idea where you got 1/2 rate.
ISF states 10 HS/month flat for assembly, no option for fast assembly. 3rdR and SM#2 both state base rate for assembly and 2x base for fast assembly. MAYBE 1/2 rate was in the original 3rd edition, but that came out before ISF...

Found it. In SM2 Rev #1 rule 15.09.03.3 under special cases One strategic turn operations 15.09.03.2.3b (page 96) Machine shops used for prefab assembly works at 1/2 rate of shipyard modules as this is largely a construction process. (or a 1x build rate at 50% cost (fast assembly)).

Of course I don't know if this was changed in the UR or not that will be up to you to look up  :P

Abject Destruction: Because a bored engineer is the second most dangerous person in the world ... right behind a bored politician.

Actually, it changed in 3rdR. rule 09.07.02, page 54. 'Assembly of prefabricated components occurs at the basic
build rate but can be accelerated to 2 times that rate for an
additional cost of 50% of the assembled unit.' Remember, order of precedence is UTM, 3rdR, SM2, then ISF.
