Initial Notes: Using SerBeardian's Ultimate Aurora Mod ( topic=10233 ) , which allows designs with 0 armor among a few other changes.  2% sun cooling world and 1899 start, where I kind of regret choosing only 50 millions as starting population(Real space exploration only happened in the 1950s due to that as it did IRL), which I imagined as a followup to the setting of the Frostpunk game.  Still, it is one of my favorite games in Aurora so far.  Regarding overall appearance, older Ion designs should have a steampunk aesthetic while more modern, Magnetic Confinement Fusion ones should have an atompunk look with just a little bit of WH40k style in it too, with some remaining steampunk elements (IE: 40k Adeptus Mechanicus).  Empire theme is WH40k with Portuguese commander names which is why there are ships and components named in Latin and Portuguese.

Liturgia Ex Malleus

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
Temperatures had their lowest ranges below -100 degrees Celsius in the late 19th Century, when astronomers confirmed Sol was dimming and to make things worse an asteroid impacted Earth and released atmospheric dust in the 1870s.    Fortunately there was a brief respite in 1899 with the sun giving one final breath of extra warmth, making the average temperature of Earth increase to a "warm" from -40 to -4 degrees Celsius before starting to go down again.    Mankind was reduced to little more than 50 million people at that time, when the Trans-Newtonian Era started.

These events made a crucible which forged the truly greatest generations in the history of Earth.  They journeyed to stars in search of a new home as their sun cooled, and instead of wonders, they found terrible xenos, only interested in communicating with mankind using their spaceship weapons, lurking even as close as Alpha Centauri, not only denying the best hope of humanity's continued survival but also threatening the very freezing cradle of mankind itself.  They responded to the challenge, and to answer to such alien threat the predecessors of the Liturgy out of the Hammer were created, commanded and crewed by true heroes, many who never returned home.

The Liturgia Ex Malleus, of which there are five ships in total as of 2020, many decades and refits since its original predecessor, is the epitome of the meritocratic Imperium established across the Amazon Taiga, representing its greatest principle: no matter the cost (in Sorium in this particular case), mankind will prevail.    Since the heroic history of its precursors, Alpha Centauri was colonized and colonies were established across 13 terraformed planets and moons.  Were it not for this family of warships and the heroes who crewed them, warships originally much more limited using even more fuel-hungry Ion Engines, mankind might have perished.

The original design, made to confront hundreds of biomechanical abominations swarming across Alpha Centauri by hopefully outrunning and outranging them with particle beams, had a tragic and short-lived existence.  Back when it was designed, the Imperium had a relatively small population and lacked the infrastructure to confront such a threat with even numbers of ships, and likewise had no technology to develop space fighters yet, nor time to build enough missiles or even an iota of R&D for such, thus superior range beam weapons and superior speed were the only options.  The only Pestiscidium ever created proved to too slow to outrun the swarms of xenos it could outrange but never outgun, and was wiped out with no survivors.  Perhaps it was luck these aliens did not try to invade Sol after that, but a response was quickly set up as research continued to find a solution and clear the Alpha Centauri system for colonization.  It had no armor because it didn't take long for the Imperium to realize these aliens had weapons that made any armor obsolete, a feature all successors designed specifically against such threat would share.    Its sacrifice was not in vain, for it gave the knowledge of how much speed a ship needed to outrun such things, and that would be even more expensive in terms of fuel with Ion engines, resulting in the following successor design:

The first truly successful warship of the Imperium, with over forty decades of History, the Pestis Excidium remains in active service by 2020 as a Liturgia Ex Malleus class warship after many refits and modernizations.  It wiped out the swarms of aliens in Alpha Centauri in an epic battle, culminating with the crew of the Pestis Excidium facing death very closely when the alien mothership surprised them with spare swarm crafts in its hangar which quickly got in range to shoot it before it could pull back, when it was trying whittle down very powerful shields.    It survived, wiped out all small alien crafts and emerged back to Sol with the realization of one shortcoming in its role: it could purge the smaller space bugs given enough time by outrunning and outranging them, but it could not overcome the shields of their mothership.    Thus a relatively quick refit after some intense R&D finally gave birth to the immediate predecessor of the Liturgia Ex Malleus:

With this refit, the Pestis Excidium microwaved the shields of the Alien Mothership, its fire controls and sensors, crushed it with particle beams, then liberated Alpha Centauri at last, wiping out about ten times its own tonnage in hostiles.  Over forty decades later it still is considered the greatest warship of Terra, with a matching hunger for fuel.  Its latest form is also very effective in point defense against missile focused threats and five of such vessels triumphed against such menaces, speed compensating the lack of turrets (the turret tracking speed tech of the Imperium Amazonensis remains very outdated)

Augur Series Scout Carrier

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
The Augur was the first spaceship of the Imperium Amazonensis, and over a long time, it went through a series of changes.  While the first version was designed with a handful of geological survey sensors and hangar space for small gravitational survey vessels, it was redesigned to instead fulfill its primary role through survey modules, which consist of a single geological or gravitational sensor attached to a minimum crew compartment and no engines, whose crews spend almost all of their time in the spare bunks of the carrier itself.    This is extremely useful and flexible.  All ships currently in service had three refits so far and were Augur II models when first built.    Due to fuel logistics limiting the maximum practical range of useful exploration, there is no drive to build more of them as long as the existing ones remain in one piece.

The only sensor of the Augur since model II is a large, passive thermal sensor which should give it enough early warning to evade hostile alien threats that may exist in uncharted star systems.        While some of the Augur II were lost in the early years of interstellar exploration, advances in propulsion, thermal sensors and jump engines, with the latter finally making it independent from jump tender support, have ensured that systems populated by hostile aliens were identified without even one casualty for decades of active service, making ship-based survey change from the most dangerous to the safest military career choice in space.    It is not perfectly safe due to jump shock and the hypothetical existence of stealth ships capable of outrunning it and going unnoticed by its thermal sensor until it's too late, but after over 30 years with no casualties, most consider it very safe through speed and early warning capabilities despite its latest model having neither armor, which was traded off for its jump engine compared to older versions, nor weapons or shields.

While its engines are less inefficient than those of the Liturgia Ex Malleus, they were not designed focusing on efficiency, for a scout carrier needs to either pack jump capable parasite crafts and stay behind as a tanker and maintenance supply for them, or be quick enough to evade any possible threat and have big enough sensors to detect it from a safe distance, and the former is more expensive in costs and R&D while limiting the maximum size of passive sensors in the ships that will get closer to potential danger.  It still has enough range to survey systems up to three jump points away from the closest colony with fuel reserves or tanker

The Augur II was critical to the early interstellar exploration.  Eventually it proved itself vulnerable however.  More than one was lost to threats they couldn't outrun or detect soon enough to avoid.    It was also severely limited by the lack of jump engines.  When the first came out from the shipyards the empire was just starting research in jump drive theory.  A military jump engine had to be about 25% as large as the maximum tonnage it allowed through a jump point and there was no room for that in such design without tradeoffs deemed unworthy.  Only after decades of R&D in the university world and first extrasolar colony of Levinor Primaris, which has alien ruins with translated excerpts of TN-propulsion theory extremely helpful to any research in this field, advances would finally make scout carriers with their own jump engines practical.  The III and IV models were just tech upgrades of this one with the major leap of Magnetic Confinement Fusion propulsion and better overall fuel efficiency, almost identical otherwise besides a minor increase in hangar capacity, and thus will be omitted.

Evento Horizonte Jump Tender/Tanker

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
Another successor to one of the oldest designs of the Imperium Amazonensis, the Event Horizon was extremely important when jump engines were very heavy for the tonnage they could support through jump points.  In more recent times, also due to the industrious efforts of several jump gate constructors, they have been used mostly as tankers, distributing fuel reserves between different worlds.  Such relative lack of use in the last 10 years or so is the reason their jump engines are still outdated heavy models from decades ago, but eventually it will be upgraded to have more fuel storage and a more compact, upgraded jump engine.  Its predecessor was almost identical except for using a slower Ion Engine.

Upgraded Missile and Carrier-centric designs
« Reply #1 on: January 18, 2020, 05:32:20 PM »
After some heavy salvaging operations, a leap to Inertial Confinement Fusion propulsion through pure reverse engineering brought a new series of refits to a very different class of warships than the fast, short operational range Liturgia Ex Malleus.  These vessels belong to the 2nd Space Force, a missile-focused warship fleet.  Some are still undergoing refits to the new propulsion tech.  R&D of new missiles with better fuel efficiency caused mismatches between maximum FC range and the ranges of the new missiles but the pressure of a new threat makes waiting improvements in sensor tech to prototype new FCs with better range unwise.  A future refit will fix that.

Off-Topic: SPOILERS • show
The threat are the extra-galactic invaders coming from 2 stable wormholes, the advance to Inertial Confinement Fusion was achieved by salvaging their wrecks.

Autocrata Class Light Carrier

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
The Autocrat is another design built around the still relevant, decades old choice of limiting maximum tonnage to 12,000 and overcoming larger threats through numbers or speed rather than size.  It is a light carrier with a minimum arsenal of anti-missile missiles itself and nothing more, supporting a complement of 4 Hastati Class Fast Attack Crafts.  The leap to Inertial Confinement Fusion technology and better overall fuel efficiency resulted in an even greater cruise speed, almost matching the Magnetic Confinement Fusion driven Liturgia Ex Malleus but with longer operational range.  It's expected anything the Autocrat can't defeat, it could easily outrun before it is too late.  Its effective combat capabilities will become clearer with the description of the latest model of its FACs further below.  The primary difference between the B and original models besides upgraded tech is that the original was designed when the Imperium Amazonensis had no real research in shields yet and thus had no shields, only armor.

Hastati Class Fast Attack Craft

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
The Hastati is a skirmisher, operating like a longer ranged beam craft but using very short ranged homing rockets fitted with their own active sensors to minimize waste from overkill instead of the astronomically expensive beam fire controls that would be necessary to have any accuracy with beam weapons that could match its effective engagement range, a benefit that comes at the obvious cost of not having infinite ammo like traditional beam FACs or fighters in addition to losing some of its firepower to enemy PD.  In a pinch, squadrons of Hastati could be used as a last ditch anti-missile defense as well, something that happened once, but that is very inefficient, for it was not designed to escort, but to attack.

Desafiador Class Escort Carrier

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
Lots of AMMs and a small wing of fighters with slightly reduced accuracy but smaller gauss cannons(enough crew training should compensate that) for final point-blank PD fire.  The Defiant is a run-of-the-mill escort carrier besides matching the choice of high cruise speed for all other warships of the Imperium Amazonensis and a little feature that gives a sense of security to many ship crews: because it had spare hangar space, it also includes a small Rescue Shuttle to save stranded survivors from lifepods in addition to its PD fighter wing.  Previous models were mostly different by having no shields, no rescue shuttle and railgun armed fighters which are more flexible but less optimal for point-blank PD.

Harpia Class Interceptor

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
To call the Harpy a Gauss cannon with engines is not an exaggeration, for the cannon makes over 54% of its total mass.  It is short ranged but excellent as a final defense against missiles.  While missiles at an equivalent tech level would be faster than its tracking speed, the volume of fire should compensate for that.

Sanctum Class Rescue Shuttle

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
Small but with plenty of spare crew quarters, the Sanctum saved hundreds of lives.  These small shuttles also are used to transport survey, xenology and other teams between planets and they are fully capable of operating independently from a carrier, with a lot of range for such small vessels.  They fit perfectly in small boat bays.  A relatively slow cruise speed compared to much larger military vessels is the result of the choice for more room for survivors to be rescued and more range instead.

Chiron Class Light Cruiser

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
The Chiron has the longest range missiles among all warships of the Imperium.  Combining two types of Anti-ship missiles in its loadout, one that is a two-stage cluster missile separating two smaller missiles from it before AMMs could shoot it down(hopefully), best used against FACs or fighters, and the other a single stage missile best against larger tonnages with a very powerful warhead, with both also having active sensors of their own to mitigate overkill when launched at large hostile fleets, plus some limited AMM capabilities, make them the strongest among missile focused warships of the Imperium.  They have a history of destroyed military tonnage to confirm that.

Agripina Class Collier

Off-Topic: Introduction • show
A "Combat-ready" Collier, meant to follow the ships it supplies to the heat of battle, the Agripina originally had a more diverse loadout, but running out of AMMs during the very first battle of the 2nd Space Force long before the ASMs were depleted led to the choice of loading these exclusively with AMMs, at least for now.

PS: Are these ship designs way too fast? The tradeoffs to achieve such speed seem worth the tactical benefits to me so far.  Might be a tad OP even.

I haven't met the spoilers you are dealing with, so I can't be of good help with that and don't know about the speeds involved.

But I see something I can comment on.

1. Your FACs lack the ability to make stand-off strikes and/or use your Size 6 ASMs, limited by launcher size 1 and 5.8m km FCS range.
2. MCR of your AMM radars is only 1.4m km. While your AMMs have max range of 2.4m km. What incoming missile speeds do you look for to meet in combat?
3. "Interceptor" is slower than FAC. What does it need to intercept, exactly?
4. What ship is the primary source of long range radar coverage? The escort carrier? Would that be enough? How many do you want per fleet for redundancy? Do you plan on using Early Warning type fighters/FACs?
5. What about the magazines on your Autocrata B class Light Carrier? 81 seems very small, especially if it is needed for on board AMM launchers.

between the Amazonas theme, and the good use of portuguese, I cant help but to ask...
se é br tbm?
To beam, or not to beam.   That is the question
the answer is you beam. and you better beam hard.
