Star League: AAR
« on: January 18, 2021, 05:41:36 PM »
Background:
Humanity through struggle, strife and finally peace has unified the whole of Earth under a single governing body established by unifying figures who quickly became the patriarchs and matriarchs of new noble houses. United, these noble houses promised to rule the people of Terra with honour and grace, ensuring that the dark ages pre-unification never occurred again.

Thus starting humanity’s journey to the stars.

The Five Unifying Houses:
House Stern:
The Swan - Through grace and valour, House Stern has held power for as long as anyone could remember, with their vast martial power and balanced industries they praise themselves as natural rulers. During the subjugation Wars, House Stern led its vast army against the petty tyrants and dictators with House Osowicz at their side. By 2200, House Stern has led the Hegemony for the past thirty years and none of Unifying Houses see a need to change this, so long as the leadership of her Imperial Highness does not falter.
Current Leader - Imperator Celestine Stern

House Titus:
The Scale - Determination, caution and preparedness are the three staples of House Titus, while not known for their military might or vast array of industries at their command. House Titus is the primary patron of the arts and sciences, so ingrained into these fields that the head of the house must prove themselves through thesis or art to be deemed fit to rule. By the year 2200 more than half of all researchers are connected to House Titus in one way or another, leading many to see the house as a friend to progress.
Current Leader - High Lord Sabbat Titus

House Osowicz:
The Stag - Glory without sacrifice is the motto of House Osowicz, they also being the oldest Unifying house capable of tracing its lineage back to the Final War. House Osowicz is the martial might of the Hegemony, they run the most prestigious academies, field the largest and best-trained armies and more importantly uphold the “Rules of War” a series of documents which outline how conflict is to be waged. Emphasizing minimizing loss of civilian life, which earned the house many enemies during the days of tyrants.
Current Leader - High Lord Hernandez Osowicz

House Kapperman:
The Ring of Stars - Unassuming to most, the Kapperman’s have always been there, not known for any one thing in particular, at least in the public eye. They’ve earned their place amongst the Unifying houses by being the oldest and in that regards, most successful house. Unassuming enough to be overlooked, yet strong enough to withstand time. By 2020 the Kapperman’s control a third of all industry whether through direct control or through their many vessels.
Current Leader - High Lady Oneida Kapperman

House Corax:
The Fields of White and Red - Once the humble garrison men of a forgotten dynasty, House Corax has risen far beyond what anyone could have imagined for them. They are the connection between the nobility and the common man, the bridge that spans two worlds and the elite of house Corax wouldn’t have it any other way.
Current Leader - High Lord Huron Corax

OOC: Research speed on 20% (changes to 10%) to keep things slow, mixed with a Survey Speed of 20% Human Start with real stars turned off. NPR’s cannot generate more NPRs. I'm doing this AAR between my MP AAR just so I have something to do between turns, furthermore, I'll at some point add some nice images and whatnot when I get around to drawing things, also expect mini-stories about important events as this is writing practice.

2200s:
Research led by House Titus goes into discovering the secrets of the strange elements being deemed “Transnewtoinan” by much of the scientific community. Wanting to verify the existence of such elements nearly all of the facilities on Terra are dedicated to the project, with Imperator Celestine Stern demanding that some facilities remain under civilian operations.

During this period, the founding houses pooled resources to ensure that a new Naval Shipyard to be constructed while beginning work of ferrying both supplies and workers to the already established yards, Imperator Stern wanting them to be expanded swiftly. A task which the nobles saw too without question.

By the end of her first year in power, Imperator Celestine Stern has already completed one of her objects. Thus, with the support of the other Houses, industries were dedicated to establishing a larger research base while also bringing more education to the people of Terra. A sentiment echoed by both House Titus and Corax.

Midway through June of the year 2205, the Blessed Saint’s yard reached Imperator Stern’s required capacity and started work on adding additional slipways, a major undertaking which the minor houses and common workers sought to accomplish with pride. During the time leading to this point, two additional research centres had finished, along with two universities. Both of which pay homage to their respected sponsors.

Only a year later would the second shipyard reach the same tonnage capacity, it also being ordered to add additional slipways, her Imperial Highness Celestine Stern wanting each to support three slipways before she will personally host a ceremony in the low orbit to reward the dedication of all the hands who saw the construction through.

In the year 2207, the final research centre of the batch requested was finished, along with the previous being tasked to the civilian sector much to the dismay of High Lord Titus who requested for more support in his projects. Imperator Celestine Stern denied the Lord’s requests citing that they would be better used on improving the control systems of the world, many devices and more important to improve the sensor equipment, allowing for humans to have a greater understanding of Terra and all she has to offer.

Meanwhile, High Lord Huron Corax convinced the Imperator to stay her hand in ordering any more sweeping projects and to allow the civil industries to rest and recover after the hardships they had just faced. Seeing the wisdom in the Lord’s words the industries of Terra were permitted to do as they pleased, until the Imperator saw fit to use them once more.

Trans Newtonian Age:
The Age of Trans Newtonian Technology had come in the year 2209, when House Titus proudly announced their findings and immediately petitioned for additional funds and resources to further the Hegemony's understanding of these new elements. The High Lord almost forgot decorum with the prospects before him. Impressed by his work, Imperator Celestine Stern ordered a quarter of all available industry to be dedicated to building additional research facilities, with another quarter to imminently begin efforts to modernize the whole world. A demand which the other Houses saw as more than reasonable.

January 12th 2217 the third shipway on the Divine Saint shipyard was completed, following its completion, her Imperial Highness Celestine Stern held to her promise made a decade ago. Hosting a grand ceremony in one of the work yards adjacent to the sister shipyards, during which the Imperator congratulated the hard work and dedication of all of those involved in the project and unveiling a monument to the workforce.

A single spanning bridge between the two shipyards, within the bridge the names of every labourer, scientists, engineer, auxiliary crew and even transport pilot involved in the construction of the mighty shipyards. The second reveal was however the more shocking, with each worker receiving a hefty sum of credits, enough to buy themselves and their family into the patrician class if they were not already.

During the ceremony, High Lord Huron Corax and High Lady Oneida Kapperman would give their speeches, commending both the workers and the Imperator for their dedication. Along with sponsoring the boon of credits with their private treasures much like Imperator Stern had done. The following week of games would be one of relaxation and joy for most of the populace.

December 7th 2222 would go down in history as one of the most important days in the history of the Hegemony, the day in which Humanity had become a full Trans Newtonian society. New reactors now power cities, great machines are used in massive mining complexes, sciences once thought fantasy has become reality. With this great achievement, a monument was commissioned to remember this day and placed in the grand gardens of Unity City.

After the celebration a few weeks later, the respective noble houses began drafting their plans to make use of these new technologies, commissioning their projects with their vast wealth and influence. Something which the Imperator was aware of, yet felt no need to stop.

2225
The dawn of the new year, Houses Osowicz, Kapperman and Titus would enact their agendas having grown interested in various fields of research and industry. House Stern and Corax continue to work together with the civilian industries to move forward with the Imperial agenda.

House Titus
Wanting to test many theories allocates research labs to the secrets of cryogenics, a field which has until recently floundered in progress but with the new elements has seen promising growth. Additionally also using their research centres to focus on some civil problems, such as more efficient storage methods for vehicles.
Status: Control 15 research labs directly, 0% of industry
Research: Boat Bay, Boat Bay Small, Cryogenics, Cryogenics Emergency

House Osowicz
For decades has relied upon the other houses for the materials and technology to police and wage ware. High Lord Hernandez Osowicz wished to change this, tasking the whole of their small industry to begin construction of additional research labs which would answer to House Osowicz first and foremost.
Status: Control 10% of the industry, queued 10 labs
Research: All the GC Compatability. All of it.

House Kapperman
With the economy booming and growing at rates never before seen, the many nobles of Hosue Kapperman were encouraged by their Matriarch to branch out and increase productivity. Meanwhile, the High Lady saw fit to increase the house’s industrial capacity before planning to produce their own research centres.
Status: Control 25% of the industry, queued 200 Construction Centers, followed by 10 labs
Research: Orbital Habitats, Trans Newtonian Shuttles, Terraforming.

December 31st 2227, House Titus proves that you can safely freeze and unfreeze living animals with no negative effects allowing for cryogenic storage to become available to the citizens of Terra. Already food is being stored more efficiently, with hopes of completely removing waste in the future. Now the scientists under the direct supervision of High Lord Sabbat Titus look into ways to minimize the technology and one day use it to help save lives.

January 7th 2229, House Titus has noticed the rampant expansion of industries and private research centres. Not wanting to lose what has been its monopoly for decades, the High Lord petitions Imperator Stern for a small allocation of the industry to facilitate the growth of House Titus assists. Her Imperial Highness was only swayed to allow this course of action when High Lady Oneida Kapperman reassured the Imperator that this would further cooperation within the Hegemony. Resulting in House Titus temporarily gaining 10% of Terra’s industry, they quickly began to use it.

House Titus
Due to the gracious support from House Kapperman and her Imperial Highness, High Lord Sabbat Titus tasked the industry he’s been loaned for five years to begin construction of a large industrial base.
Status: Control of 10% of the industry, queued 200 Construction Centers
Research: Boat bay, Cryogenic Storage Small, Cryogenic Storage Emergency

On March 9th 2233 House Kapperman has complected their hefty industrial projects, allowing their industries to do as they please once more and insuring that the Imperator’s orders are fulfilled with no opposition.

November 14th 2234 House Titus private research projects have finished, bridging with them rapid changes across Terra. The largest being the more efficient storage methods throughout the world thanks to more modular designs incorporating mechanized parts to make better use of space. Yet the change which the Patriarch of House Titus believes will be most beneficial is the capacity for first responders to freeze citizens in critical conditions. Releasing a public statement, High Lord Sabbat Titus believes this technology while small and unassuming will save hundreds of thousands of lives within the following year alone.

On March 13th 2237 the final Boronide mine dries up, a significant stockpile amassed in the process yet with the first resource of Terra being exhausted, her Imperial Highness Celestine Stern issues orders to focus all hands-on project PATHFINDER. A dedicated project to produce the first proper survey vessels of the Hegemony and find additional resources within the system of Sol.

February 26th 2238 Vendarite is exhausted on Terra, the PATHFINDER project is nearing completion and all large federal projects not related to PATHFINDER are halted until such a time where more minerals are found for fear of a mineral crisis.

Two years since Imperator Celestine Stern took direct command of most of the Hegemony’s resources, the framework of the three Pathfinder Class Survey vessels begin to take shape in the Blessed Saint shipyards. The largest cost of these vessels being the two massive PF-SINTE engines which take up nearly half of the entire ship. The rest of the vessels filled with crew space, storage and powerful sensors to rapidly research the bodies of Sol.

With minimal hull plating to ensure that micro meteors and other space debris will not pose a risk to the crew and an intended deployment time of 3 years, the first Pathfinder crews begin their training as the great shipyards of the Hegemony stir to life.

Seizing the initiative of what’s bound to be hard times ahead, house Kapperman and House Corax begin construction of their own Naval shipyards, with Kapperman also drafting plans for their own civilian shipyard shortly after. The justification for the yards, being the need for more production and to promote competition.

On April 16th 2241 the three pathfinder class ships leave their docks to much fanfare, a great celebration being had at the Blessed Saint shipyard as Imperator Stern herself see’s the vessels off with a short speech, before returning to the Terran Palace. The three sibling ships and their crews begin their mission to find resources in Sol. In the process, House Corax and civilian industries begin the groundwork for the first commercial ships.

Over the course of the next few days, the control room of the PATHFINDER project waits with ever-increasing frustration as the slow report of Pathfinder’s survey systems come in as the vessel scans the surface of Luna. The first few days amount to nothing as no disputes are found, and then a reading. Followed by another and another.

The control room erupts into cheers as the systems of Pathfinder are proven to be working as intended, they already reading large deposits of Duranium and Galliacite. As the days turn to weeks more minerals are found upon Luna, ensuring that the Hegemony will not fear running out of precious Galliacite for some time.

However, neither Boronide nor Vendarite is found upon Luna, the Pathfinder and her siblings are sent further into the solar system to search for the two exhausted minerals, just as Uridium, Tritanium and Corbomite are dwindling upon Terra.

By May 16th 2241 two small deposits of Boronide are found, totalling just over 23 thousand tons, enough to supply the Hegemony for some years, additional deposits of all minerals other than are Vendarite found. Causing her Imperial Highness to assign a task force to carefully monitor the usage of the mineral. No expected restrictions are to be foreseen.

September 28th 2241 significant deposits of all minerals have been found, resulting in Imperator Stern issuing the crisis over and allowing all industries to return to normal. The Unifying Houses are more than pleased with being able to use their own assists once more.

2241
With the end of the ‘primitive’ mineral crisis and the Imperator releasing control of crucial industries once more, the Unifying Houses quick to take advantage of the situation.

House Stern
While Her Highness Celestine Stern commands the whole of the Hegemony, her eldest son Reikhardt Stern saw fit to use the families assists to expand their industry, in the process also allocating additional resources from the civil industries.
Status: 7.5% Industry, queued an additional 170 factories

House Kapperman
Planning far into the future, High Lady Oneida Kapperman has been hard at work ensuring that the first Orbital habitats will be ready for production within her lifetime. And while there are already plans to build one such station, the High Lady is now focused on a means to transport such stations from one place to another. While preparing for this, she orders all of the industry under House Kapperman’s control to produce additional factories.
Status:30% Industry queued 275 factories.
Research: Tractor Beam

House Corax
Focusing on improving the lives of its people and the people of Terra, High Lord Huron Corax issues orders for the construction of additional industries, financial centres and additional mines. While also having the Numitor shipyard to add additional shipways. His final orders given, High Lord Huron Corax steps retires as the patriarch of his house.
Status: 11% Industry queued 105 factories, 200 financial centres, 200 mines

October 3rd 2241, Randulf Ostwald of House Corax ascends to the patriarch of the house, taking the name Corax as his own. The young High Lord hosts a small celebration as is customary before promising to see his predecessor’s wishes are fulfilled.

December 22nd 2241, four cargo ships have been completed and unlike the fanfare which the Pathfinders received these hulking ships were immediately tasked with delivering infrastructure to the moon, in preparation of a colonization effort.

December 26th 2241, the Pathfinder begins a routine survey of Mars, the first planetoid to be surveyed by the vessel. During the initial scans, an unusual object was detected, where normally mineral deposits are spread out over hundreds of kilometres of space, a dense pocket of many high-quality minerals was found in one of the mountainous regions of the red planet. As the Pathfind moved it’s sensors to scan the anomaly it sent out some drones to get a visual feed of the location.

In the process finding irrefutable proof of alien life. Or what would have been a civilization long ago. Angular cuts into a cliff face and clear metallic supports and structures are hidden within the mountain. Further investigation showed the installation to be much larger. The Pathfinder was filled commotion as the captain and first science officer debated on what to do, finally, the news was sent back to Terra.

As the news arrived, the Hegemony was ablaze with thought, many panicked, other cheered and some locked themselves away, fearing the worst. Swiftly the Noble Houses met to determine a response to confirmation of intelligent life. In the end, it was determined that Mars was to be restricted from expansion and for preparations to be made to send a detachment of soldiers and scientists to explore the alien site. High Lord Hernandez Osowicz ecstatic at being able to put all of his House’s research to good use.

Slowly, tensions across the world decreased and the Hegemony continued forward.

November 23rd 2242, the Bushwacker a first-generation Pathfinder discovers ruins of a destroyed outpost on the Jupiter moon of Ganymede, as with the previous decision made the year before. Ganymede is set as restricted space until a time in which a team has assessed the ruins and reported on their findings.

March 8th 2243 House Kapper reveals its intentions to send the first colonists to Luna and through the continuous shipments of Infastruct from House Corax the two hope to split the resources of Luna evenly between each other. A prospect which concerns and intrigues the other Houses which have yet to prepare the necessary pieces for colonization.

The following years are dedicated to the rapid expansion and preparations for the colonization of Luna. Infrastructure, Mines and Factories are mass-produced along with additional cargo shuttles. Two years after House Kapper revealed their intentions for Luna, the first colonist arrives on the surface of the not so barren rock. A small city of habitation modules and connectors lining the cargo shuttle pads, arranged in circles around each pad to ensure maximum efficiency.

By June 11th 2245 Luna would be home to over ten million souls, a tremendous success for the whole of the Hegemony. While the Colony is still reliant on mother Terra for supplies, Houses Kapper and Corax seek to deal address that in the coming years. The two houses also agreeing on ownership of Luna. Corax would own 30% of all industries and resources on the planet while Kapper takes 20%, the rest belonging to the Hegemony as a whole.

September 27th 2248 the yard workers at Kyras completed the Hermes class Troop Transport, a large bulky vessel which was not much to look at, but with its armoured hull and speed High Lord Hernandez Osowicz hoped it would be capable of safely transporting the team he has spent the last few years assembling.

October 30th 2248 High Lord Hernandez Osowicz’s forces make planetfall several kilometres from the ruined outpost and make their way to the mountain. Where they spend the next few days establishing a basecamp before beginning their work in earnest.

March 14th 2249 The Kyras shipyard is finished retooling under orders from High Lady Oneida Kapperman, Kyras now capable of producing House Kapperman’s latest ship. The Silent Worker, a colossal 100,000-ton tugboat which is nearly all engine. With these massive ships ready to be constructed House Kapperman prepares their finances for the High Lady’s Orbital habitat project.

July 27th 2249 High Lord Sabbat Titus passes away in his sleep, the exact cause of death is deemed to be age. His funeral is to be held days before the coronation of his successor.

August 21st 2249 Marius Titus, the third son of Sabbat Titus becomes the new patriarch of the House, after both of his elder brothers, dropped out of the running and Marius beating his eldest sister by four elector votes. High Lord Marius Titus promises cooperation with all other Unifying Houses and to ensure the legacy of his father is remembered. The High Lord proclaiming that his House will be the first to send citizens to Saturns moon, Titan.

This is unusually generous for an imperial leader. Where is the exploitation of the masses? The subjugation of dissent? The senseless killing of political opponents and the slightly-annoying?

I kid, I kid...  ;)

While it doesn't address the minerals in the narrative, that is a disgustingly nice Luna in terms of minerals available, with three of them being very usual crunch suspects and neutronium being quite useful itself. I would like to enter contract talks to purchase your RNG for use in my own games, please.

How are the leaders of each house being chosen here? It doesn't seem like each house has a clear area of responsibility, e.g. one house gets Admirals, another gets Generals, etc.

Earth's ground forces are going to be very, very busy it seems.

I do like seeing the oversized commercial ships here, it feels unique compared to the standard 40kT freighter design we all see in our dreams by now. I suppose with a conventional start you have a lot of time to grow your shipyards to that size, so you may as well take advantage of it.

It will be curious to see what justification will exist for the construction of warships - assuming that there's an NPR or three out there somewhere, there's a nonzero risk of being overrun by the more aggressive aliens in the galaxy, but whether anyone on Earth assesses that risk as significant enough to justify a military design remains to be seen...

While it doesn't address the minerals in the narrative, that is a disgustingly nice Luna in terms of minerals available, with three of them being very usual crunch suspects and neutronium being quite useful itself. I would like to enter contract talks to purchase your RNG for use in my own games, please.

My RNG is all over the place, and while some things I defiantly SM in just to keep stuff fun for me. Luna was untouched. I am very pleased. Mars was not legit, I've only ever had one run where Mars actually had minerals. All other runs it's a barren rock

How are the leaders of each house being chosen here? It doesn't seem like each house has a clear area of responsibility, e.g. one house gets Admirals, another gets Generals, etc.

Each house does it a bit differently depending on their culture. House Corax, for example, is a bunch of prominent clans (Companies in the before times) unified into one big power block. As time went on the last name "Corax" became synonymous with "Leader" or "General" and thus when one patriarch/matriarch dies the head of each clan get together to elect a new Corax. House Titus as you'll see later on allows for inheritance by electors (specifically Tanistry), where the influential family members and vessels choose one of the Titus dynasty members to lead.

As for what each house does, for the most part, they can do whatever they please. Only two houses hyper specialize and those are House Titus which focuses on the sciences and arts being the ones who control most of the research labs and House Osowicz which is the military might. While IRP there's more than just police forces standing around on the planets, the vast majority of troops and war are handled by this house. But, nothing stops other houses from getting in on that sweet action.

Earth's ground forces are going to be very, very busy it seems.

To busy. I'm just glad I had the mad man Osowicz queue up every single ground capability, including XenoArcheology and Construction Equipment first. For once I'm prepared.

Glad you enjoy the big lad commercial ships. I like to imagine them as just flying shipping containers all held together by long skeleta networks of struts, beams and nets. Plus, a large sea based cargoship is about 200,000 tons. And we will see about the militization!

The Martian Ruins
The Pathfinder crew sits at their workstations, the bridge and science centre fused together in a collection of screens, work stations and computing equipment made the conditions tight. Captain Tycho Tahril drums her fingers against her seat as she leaned back, like much of the crew she’s wearing casuals for the heat of the room despite the environmental systems routinely got unbearable.

“Ma’am, we need to check sector Alpha-Echo Nine again, the readings we have from the sector are odd” Petty Officer Cinkosky said over the hum of equipment, his screen illuminating his upper body with a pale blue light.

With something to do at long last, Captain Tahril looks over to the Petty Officer. “Data on my screen, then we can discuss if another sweep is necessary”

A flick of his hand and the information was shifted to the captain’s stations, Taril’s eyes scanning the data rapidly as she began to frown. “Are you sure their’s no interference?”

“Positive Captain, I ran the data through our software three times and it came back like this all three times. We need to either re-survey this section or send the drones”

Sitting upright from her slouch, Captain Tahril tapped on her screen, giving the drone controllers new orders. “We’ll get the drones on it” She says before flicking her screen up and shifting a feed of the drone’s camera showing the dusty sky to the main screen in the bridge.

Most of the crew nearby looking over despite having work of their own to accomplish, the Captain looking over them. Without any words spoken the officers return to their work as the drone makes its way towards mountains in the distance.

An hour since Petty Officer Cinkosky informed the Captain of an anomaly the Drone had made to the mountain range and was steadily moving towards the coordinates when a great cavern came into view. Captain Tahril intently watching the feed lets out a gasp of surprise at the scene before, the other officers looking towards the screen as silence overtakes the bridge.

Straight edged walls lined the side of the gargantuan cavern, even from this distance it was irrefutably artificial in nature, as the drone approached smaller structures dotting the entrance of the cave could be made out, many of which eroded and partially collapsed, impossible to notice from orbit

The drone controller despite what was being seen did not falter and moved the flying drone closer to the cavern entrance, turning its lights on and illuminating the hollow cut out of the mountain. Ruined pieces of machinery clearly once hanging from the ceiling scattered across the ground, what looked to be broken down vehicles the size of the Pathfinder laying dormant and in pieces upon the floor.

The drone performing a slow turn to view the whole of what was clearly a hangar of some sort, in the process revealing ruined hallways and sections which were clearly missing walkways, more debris and what appeared to be a collapsed section of wall. Yet as the drone moved deeper into the structure the signal abruptly was lost.

The bridge remained quite, many in awe, some terrified. The captain however concerned as she started to bring up the emergency line to Terra. There was no training for this situation, but she knew something had to be done.

A nice almost retrospective in a sense, covering a specific and formative event in the preceding report.

Nice touch with the bridge being too hot rather than too cold, bit of a hard sci-fi nod there I take it as cooling is usually the problem in space rather than heat retention contrary to popular belief.

Thinking about it, in-story the mineral deposits on Mars make sense if it was once the homeworld of an ancient civilization...on the other hand, you'd think they would have used all of the resources up before their civilization fell...one is left wondering what might have happened to these ancient aliens?

2250s
For 50 years the Terran Hegemony had seen unimaginable success in all sectors, from the economy to production, to even life expectancy and general happiness. A success which will have Imperator Celestine Stern record in history as one of the greats, the Imperial Authority who ushered in an age of progress unlike any other. Now the Five Unifying Houses begin their own plots for the upcoming years with Houses Kapperman and Corvax working on establishing themselves upon Luna, House Titus promising to colonize Titan and Osowicz continuing their policy of furthering the Hegemony’s understanding of warfare using the Trans Newtonian elements. Meanwhile the influential amongst House Stern worry for the health of their Matriarch, others plot to ensure their own ascension.

Imperial Decree
Imperator Celestine Stern Issues an order to restore the balance of industry within Terra to counteract the explosive growth of the other houses. Furthermore, she commissions 2 additional naval shipyards, citing that the Hegemony knows of intelligent life existing in the universe and that the Hegemony must be ready. The last objective is for the construction of additional research facilities to remove the strain off of house Titus.
Status: 600 Construction Factories, 2 Naval Shipyards queued, 10 labs queued

House Stern
With the assistance of the more prestigious members of House Stern, Reikhardt Stern orders a slight increase of industry followed by the construction of a single Naval Shipyard and 5 labs before having the family’s factories increase their civil assists.
Status: 100 Factories, 1 Naval Shipyard queued, 5 labs queued, 100 finical centres queued

House Titus
The promises of colonizing Titan are a tall order, even for House Titus, thankfully with civilian shipping they need not worry about producing their own ships instead focusing on producing the infrastructure necessary to colonize Jupiter's moon.
Status: 50 Factories, 50 Mines queued, 2000 Infrastructure queued

House Osowicz
For the past fifty years, High Lord Hernandez Osowicz has overseen the slow changes of the military forces and was content with continuing this. But with the fear of alien incursions into Sol and the only defences to speak of being ancient ICBM’s. His hand was forced, the High Lord commissioning a slight increase to the House’s industry before the new industry being used to produce 3 Naval shipyards, following the shipyards being five more labs to be used for Laser Research, a field which appears promising.
Status: 100 Factories, 3 Naval Shipyards, 5 Labs

House Kapperman
After decades of preparation, High Lady Oneida Kapperman has everything she needs to begin the first human habitat project. Using the vast industry which her house has been steadily building the first
Status: 200 Factories, 10 K-National Habitats

House Corax
Rather than working on larger projects, High Lord Randulf Corax sees to completing the operations of Luna, producing factories and mines to help jumpstart the colony’s economy.
Status: 100 Factories, 50 Mines queued

July 22nd 2250 the ruins of Mars are successfully surveyed, the race from the findings called themselves the Adim. The force is immediately picked up and transferred to Ganymede were another set of ruins had been discovered. Teams on earth are organized to begin exploitation.

February 5th 2251 the ruins of mars have been successfully exploited with no problems during the excavation, in the process, it was found that Mars at one point was likely a militarized planet which was producing ships for Adim people, additionally, it was found that the Adim people were likely from a high gravity world or in the process of colonizing them if the findings are to be believed.

September 6th 2251 the first Orbital Habitate is stationed above Mercury, granting researchers, miners and other citizens to live above the planet. Additionally, thanks to the extensive research prior to the construction of the National Habitats, the artificial gravity and modular design allows for the city-sized constructs to be easily fitted together with no hassle.

January 31st 2252 both the Blessed Saint and Divine Saint shipyards have completed their expansions, in honour of the memorable day, Imperator Celestine Stern leaves the Imperial palace to attend the ceremony. A welcome sight for the citizens and workers of the shipyards.

April 13th 2252 the 10th orbital habitat is placed above mercury, marking a monstrous achievement by the Kappermen House. They humbly stating that the habitats are just extensions of Terra herself and that they held no ownership over them other than being the one who built them.

August 15th 2255 as High Lord Marius Titus promised the first colonists to arrive on Titan where they are able to quickly get to work with the already provided factories and mines. The High Lord proudly proclaiming that Titan will become a hub of trade thanks to the nearby super jovian which holds millions of ton worth of fuel.

May 5th 2261 the last years have seen rampant production and growth throughout all of Sol. Nearly all of the current colonies are self-sufficient enough to reliably build additional industry, mines and infrastructure without the need of Terra’s support. It also marks the day in which the array of naval shipyards have been completed, bringing the total shipyards of Terra to 10.

Imperial Decree
Knowing their time is not long for this world, Imperator Celestine Stern issues orders for the rampant expansion of military assists, redirecting civil research labs to bolster the efforts of project LANCER and TRAILBLAZER respectfully. Along with increasing the vast sensor and communication networks of Terra.
Status: 25 Deep space tracking.

House Stern/House Titus
Lord Reikhardt Stern and High Lord Marius Titus agree to combine their resources to begin colonizing Mars, the two houses agreeing that if the Corax and Kappermen’s want Luna then they can have it. With the combined industry of the two Houses, they hope to be the first to exploit the red planet.

House Osowicz
With a focus on military research and construction, High Lord Hernandez Osowicz sees to it that additional labs and military bases are constructed to increase the number of new divisions capable of being trained at a time while also bolstering the Hegemonies technology.
Status: 5 Ground Construction Centers, 5 Labs

House Kapperman
While the other houses prepare for unknown threats or seek to claim new territories, High Lady Oneida Kapperman has been in talks for months with High Lord Randulf Corax regarding the great issues of colonization. While habitats and infrastructure has allowed humanity to spread from Terra, they are confined by the limits of what they can build. With this in mind, High Lady Oneida Kapperman has been single handily funding the research of terraforming. Now with House Corax’s support, the two begin preparations for the first Terraforming stations.
Research: Terraforming Modules

House Corax
While the Kapperman’s are pulling most of the weight, High Lord Randulf Corax seeks to use their available industry to turn his house into an industrial power, with the focus of making Luna it’s an industrial hub, in preparation for the terraforming project.
Status: Terra - 300 Industry, 200 finance centres queued
Luna - 200 Industry, 2 Spaceports queued

December 21st 2261 the march of progress has been slow within the Hegemony with looming fears of an alien threat, additional task forces dedicated to keeping the peace have been sent to all the colonies. The growing shipyards of terra continue their construction uninterrupted, growing larger with each month. Meanwhile, the testing ranges of House Osowicz emmit odd lights and at times great chunks of melted metal and machinery can be seen taken away to be recycled.

Yet it is also the time of tragedy and mourning. Her Imperial Highness, second of her name, Imperator Celestine Magdalena of the illustrious House Stern passes at the age of 102. An official day of mourning to be held where all of the Hegemony will pay their respects to their Imperator of nearly 62 years. The elector council will convey in the new year as they begin the strenuous process of determining the next Imperator.

December 30th 2261, the construction brigade along with the remaining scientists who’ve been hard at work uncovering all the secrets of the Adim ruins of Mars manage to restore power to an ancient research lab. Xeno Archaeologists believe they may be able to gather data from the ancient systems and are given the go-ahead from Hegemony officials.

May 10th 2262 colonization of Mars has begun in earnest, a detachment of police is sent with the first wave of settlers to help ease fears with the growing paranoia of an alien threat amongst the stars. Teams continue to use the Adim facilities looking for any lost secrets.

December 6th 2262 the new Imperator has yet to be chosen, the High Lords and other electors still in debate over who is best to lead the Hegemony. Rumours circulate that the most likely candidate Reikhardt Stern isn’t being considered which has caused concern throughout much of the Hegemony. Some fear the current High Lord of house Stern will revolt if he’s not chosen. Something which High Lord Reikhardt Stern has assured will never happen. Regardless the electors do not expect a new Imperator to be chosen for at least five more years.

December 19th 2262 High Lord Reikhardt Stern covertly sends a detachment of his most loyal troops and scientists to the pre-Trans Newtonian research installations within Antarctica to test new colonization techniques.

September 11th 2264 renowned combat engineer Sindri Agemman dies in an accident at the Antarctic research centre which over the course of two years has become a hub of research, with only the best and brightest being accepted to the team. With such a prominent weapons engineer it has many in the Noble houses worry about military technology being created within the Antaritch labs. High Lord Reikhardt Stern offers an open invitation for any house to inspect the facility to help sway fears.

December 22nd 2264 the terraforming module has at long last been researched and house Kapperman immediately puts it into production as they draft plans for massive terraforming stations. With their allies in House Corax a celebration is had.

September 7th 2265 the Antarctic research base opens its doors to the public revealing what they had been working on to the world for this time in secret. With the increase to productivity and safety

May 5th 2266 High Lord Reikhardt Stern hosts a speech of cooperation from his personal palace in Unity city. During the speech, the High Lord reveals his new personal guard, nearly seven-foot-tall soldiers clad in armour, unlike anything which has ever before been seen. All of which have weapons built into the armour along with additional weapons which they carry. High Lord Reikhardt Stern proudly proclaims that all of the Noble houses will one day have soldiers such as his.

May 12th 2266 the other High Lords ease fears of an armed insurrection after the display of military might from House Stern and announce that the next Imperator will be announced shortly by the Electors.

June 17th 2266  the Electors announced that the wishes of her Imperial Highness, the late High Lady Celestine Stern would be fulfilled by the electors as they deemed her successor worthy. A young prodigy by the name of Asher Stern, one of High Lady Celestine’s grandchildren is chosen to be the next Imperator. The ceremony to raise Lady Asher Stern to Imperial authority will occur mid-September.

However, unlike the ascension of Imperator Celestine Stern not all of the Unifying or even Noble Houses were pleased by this outcome. House Titus stated that the merits of the current High Lords should be valued above the wishes of the deceased. A sentiment shared by others.

September 12th 2266 the Unifying and Noble Houses attend the ceremony of ascension where Lady Asher Stern, granddaughter of Imperator Celestine Stern will ascend to the same authority of her predecessor and be charged with leading the growing Hegemony further than even Imperator Celestine. Despite the rejection of some nobles, all have come regardless to show their support in the young lady.

The coronation begins after hours of speeches, honours and other such traditions are held, High Lord Hernandez Osowicz tasked with crowning the new Imperator. Among the highest honours which can be given to a noble. Before the oaths can be said the Palace feeds cut out and gunfire echoes throughout Unity City.

September 13th 2266  Rouge elements of House Stern, Minor Nobles and even some Greater Nobles hoping to make a name for themselves flock under the banner of High Lord Reikhardt Stern as he and his brigades of “Battle Armor” Elites quickly neutralize the capital’s defences.

October 3rd for weeks the battle raged on in the capital city, yet the forces of High Lord Ortel Osowicz along with the other Unifying forces, including the loyalist Stern guards reclaimed both the capital and arrested the insurrectionists within the Stern holdings. Lady Asher Stern was found alive within one of the emergency bunkers constructed over a century ago when nuclear war was still the norm. The thick walls and impenetrable doors protecting the Lady and many other nobles.

Despite the good news of Lady Asher surviving, both High Lord Hernandez Osowicz and High Lord Randulf Corax were found with their honour guards slaughtered the insurrectionist’s forces. Testimonies of the survivors of the attack all share the theme of the two High Lords along with their men buying the rest of the nobles time to escape to the bunker. Willing giving up their lives for the Hegemony.

High Lord Reikhardt Stern meanwhile was captured and stripped of his rank and titles, his assets seized and his coconspirators sharing the same fate. In the end, order was restored.

December 1st 2266 Lady Asher Stern ascends, becoming the next Imperator of the Hegemony, with High Lady Oneida Kapperman being the one to crown her. During the Imperator’s speech, she spoke of unity and perseverance and to not let the previous actions of the jealous and spiteful call into question the will of the people. A speech which is well received.

March 13th 2267 the ruins of Ganymede are finally being exploited by construction crews after the research crews finished mapping and translating the language. From the understanding of the researches, the Adim people where also the owners of these ruined installations.

August 30th 2267 the ruins of Ganymede have been fully exploited with many interesting findings. With the research lab restored, scientists are sent to uncover any secrets it may hold.

December 3rd 2267 teams have finished translating the data of the caches within the Mars Adim installations. In the process learning that at a time Mars was used as a shipyard for the alien race and more importantly gaining access to advance gauss technologies. Teams working in Ganymede hope for similar results.

January 15th 2268 Imperator Asher Stern issues orders for the technology developed by her uncle to be spread out amongst the houses and for each Unifying House to have no more than one battalion of Bulwark Guards. And the Imperator is permitted to have two battalions to act as personal guards, but are expected to remain in Unity City. Additionally, her Highness issues orders for an increase in research labs to help with the upcoming demands of Project LANCER.

June 20th 2270 Project LANCER enter’s it’s final phases as weapon systems undergo development, a multitude of new industries being created to keep up with the new demand of hyper-focusing lasers and superalloys used in the creation of such devices.

October 22nd 2273 the ten Geo Stations ordered by House Kappermen are finally completed and the Kappermen Tug fleet swiftly moves them into position above Luna where the stations begin to produce a proper atmosphere for Luna. It’s theorized between the stages of ensuring water is present, creating a breathable atmosphere and seeding the body with plantlife will take some time. But there is hope that within a decade Luna will be habitable.

April 5th 2274 all of the weapon systems for Project LANCER are completed, all that is needed are the engines and final sensors, then the ships can be placed into production after decades of work. The beginning of the Hegemony Star Navy is becoming a reality.

October 31st 2276 Project TRAILBLAZER was completed through the combined efforts of House Titus and House Osowicz. Thus allowing the sections to be laid down for the first Destroyers and Corvettes of the Hegemony fleet. In the time it took to complete Project TRAILBLAZER, Luna is estimated to be halfway done terraforming. Additionally, High Lady Oneida Kapperman is put on life support as her body begins to fail at the age of 115, House Kapperman begins the process electing a new High Lord from the collection of eligible Heirs.

The Celestine Class Destroyer Leader, named after her Highness Celestine Stern this Destroyer will lead the defensive bulk of our forces for some time. Equipped with redundant sensor suites, thick armour and enough control centres to ensure the vessel fights at 100% effectiveness. It is a testament to Hegemony engineering. One Celestine DL will lead a squadron of three Hernandez destroyers, to ensure redundancy within fleets and the ability to split off into multiple groups if necessary.

September 1st 2277 the first run of the Lanwin class Corvettes leave the Vivar Industries shipyards and take flight around Terra, for the first time in history a fully functioning warship watches over Terra. The sigil of House Osowicz proudly painted across the haul, letting all rest assured that their vigilant watchers now have the means to combat alien incursions.

September 16th 2277 Luna becomes fully habitat with an average temperature of 7 degrees celsius and dotting of lakes and forests already sprouting up around the moon. While much of the north and south poles remain barren cold desserts, Luna has large bands of comfortable conditions all across it. With this monumental achievement completed, the Terraformers of house Kapperman are in transit to Mars.

January 27th 2278 the Celestine and her three Destroyers leave their yard to much fanfare and celebration, the people of the Hegemony at last feeling safe with their metal giants watching over them from the stars.

A nice almost retrospective in a sense, covering a specific and formative event in the preceding report.

Nice touch with the bridge being too hot rather than too cold, bit of a hard sci-fi nod there I take it as cooling is usually the problem in space rather than heat retention contrary to popular belief.

Thinking about it, in-story the mineral deposits on Mars makes sense if it was once the homeworld of an ancient civilization...on the other hand, you'd think they would have used all of the resources up before their civilization fell...one is left wondering what might have happened to these ancient aliens?

Will be many more little stories like that for the next segment. Considering a lot happened. And yea, the two biggest reasons why the bridge was so hot is A. You got all of these machines crammed in a tight place, actively radiating their heat away from inside a little space. B. The cooling systems are keeping the stuff that needs to be cooled, cool. People can handle being uncomfortable, but your sensitive equipment and perishables? Well, the first ships had their problems.

As for the aliens. Welp. Who knows?

As I'm a bit out of practice I return here.  :P

"Remove the strain off of" being political speak for "quietly siphon off power from and accumulate for ourselves", I presume. That's the royal "we" there, of course.

House Titus
The promises of colonizing Titan are a tall order, even for House Titus, thankfully with civilian shipping they need not worry about producing their own ships instead focusing on producing the infrastructure necessary to colonize Jupiter's moon.

"Yes, yes, that's it, look at the pretty moon halfway across the solar system...pay no attention to domestic affairs..."  :P

April 13th 2252 the 10th orbital habitat is placed above mercury, marking a monstrous achievement by the Kappermen House. They humbly stating that the habitats are just extensions of Terra herself and that they held no ownership over them other than being the one who built them.

To less fanfare they begin quietly signing rental agreements for the various shop modules aboard the station with the 2200s versions of McDonald's, Walmart, and strangely enough the resurgent Blockbuster video store franchise among others.

Candidly, I wonder if this may be an over-optimistic investment. Infrastructure presently is given to many other projects including the orbital modules, so perhaps it would be better to construct planetside terraformers instead and ship them around the solar system? The colonization fleets seem to be quite robust and could easily support this.

If an empire can hum along just fine without an Imperator for five, actually size years, is the role of Imperator really so necessary? Perhaps this reluctance to act heralds a new period of political change, though one imagines not so much upheaval as simply a realignment of hallowed institutions.

Quote

Or civil war and upheaval, also good, can't be too picky these days after all.  :P

And then after long last, finally we have some shooty bits to admire!

An impressive vessel, and certainly it is quite a statement to make when such a sizeable craft is the first of your new battle fleet. I do note that she lacks a mid-resolution (10 or 20) sensor so there is a bit of a gap in the sensor coverage which FACs could exploit for instance. Of course it will be seen in battle if this is actually any consideration...

Size month deployment time is probably a tad short for any kind of on-station deployment but sufficient for a sortie-focused battle fleet, which implies the strategy behind the designs.

Quote
While the Celestine DL is focused on combat information and acting as a fleet coordinate the Hernandez needs not to worry about saving tonnage for large control centres. Instead, the Hernandez has been packed full of point defence systems, ammunition and crew quarters and some redundant fire control centres to allow the Destroyer to continuously fire anti-missile and fighter munitions without halting.

Very interesting that the destroyer squadrons are not particularly armed for actually killing things, as a single four-ship group only carries thirteen 15 cm lasers between them. A curious choice of doctrine, but hopefully the missile defenses will make these an effective shield for the empire. I suspect we have yet to see the sword which accompanies the shield...

Named after one of the exemplary generals of House Osowicz pre-unification the Lanwin class is not rated to go far from home, designed specifically as a trade protector it will be amongst the first ships to take to the stars and deployed all across Sol to ensure each planet is protected from external attack. With its high speed, it’s hoped it’ll perform well against opponents.

Fairly basic but it should get the job done and at least on defense can support the DD squadrons adequately. Overall the empire should feel secure in its position...for now.

A rather long update but now we are building to the exciting bits. I suppose the next step then is that a proper jump point survey needs to be done so we can really begin exploring the galaxy to find someone to, um, show off our lovely new navy to!  ;D
