The Systems Alliance Navy, Circa 2073
« on: March 16, 2016, 07:04:08 PM »
The Systems Alliance was formed in the early days of 2016 with the discovery and exploitation of Transnewtonian elements. The Alliance is tasked with safeguarding humanity's galactic interests, including the conduct of war and interstellar commerce. Since its inception, the Alliance has taken a very proactive position on the construction and maintenance of military ships and facilities. While this has, at times, caused some friction between the Alliance and various nations on Earth, this decision was vindicated with the discovery of hostile alien forces in over a half dozen star systems a mere 25 years after the Alliance's founding. The following is a current accounting of the forces under direct control of Alliance Naval Command.

Frigates in the Alliance Navy are military vessels ranging from 5,000 to 8,000 tons, and as such are the smallest warships in operation. The Hudson-class Frigates are designed to bolster the firepower of any Task Force they are a part of. Currently the Alliance Navy operates 48 of these Frigates.

The Roanoke-class Escort Frigate is a newly designed vessel based off of the hull of the Hudson-class. These ships were ordered in response to the current military conflict with the Nanded Alliance, and are designed to protect Carrier Strike Groups and Cruiser Battle Groups from the large numbers of missiles the Nanded Alliance are fond of launching. The Alliance Navy has 48 of these Frigates currently in service.

The Erie-class Destroyer follows the same doctrine as the Hudson-class Frigates, as do all ships of the Alliance Navy, and is designed to further increase the firepower available to a Fleet. These ships are deployed alongside a Carrier Strike Group to protect the Carrier from oncoming enemy vessels. Currently in operation: 36.

The Niagara-class Escort Destroyer was the main anti-missile and anti-fighter ship of the Alliance Navy before the introduction of the Roanoke-class. The Niagara-class's main disadvantage compared to the Roanoke is it's complexity, which leads to a longer construction time, though the Niagaras are cheaper ton-for-ton. Currently in operation: 36.

The Atlantic-class Cruiser is the heavy hitter of the Alliance Navy. It is designed to dish out a massive amount of damage while remaining unscathed under the protection of the Niagara-class Escort Destroyers and the new Roanoke-class Escort Frigates. Currently in operation: 36.

The new pride of the Alliance Fleets, the Tokyo-class Carrier reflects the changing doctrine within Alliance Naval Command. The future of warfare is in the ability to field an overwhelming number of guns, say many of the Alliance's leaders. In response to this belief, the Alliance Navy commissioned the designing of an experimental Carrier, and the Tokyo-class was the result. Currently, the Alliance Navy operates 6 of these behemoths, with six more slated for launch in the next two years.

The MFB-1 StratoHornet is the first military fighter to be developed by the Alliance, and reflects the belief that overwhelming firepower is the key to victory. Currently, 120 of these fighters are built and deployed on the 6 Tokyo-class Carriers. Another 120 are under construction, and will be deployed when the 6 remaining Tokyos are finished.
