And of course there's the classic standby for a super-dreadnought:

My tankers tend to be of the Exxon Valdez class.
It started in a game where most of earths history was lost, but some standout names survived in the archives. So the only tanker name these people knew was Exxon Valdez. And they wanted to return the good old days ...

Burning Bright is a name I have used a few times on various beam craft. On one occasion UNS Burning Bright and her sister ship UNS Burning Fist demonstrated the effectiveness of spinal lasers to an excessively curious NPR.

...the effectiveness of spinal lasers...

This would be a fine ship name.
If only we could make it shorter.
Maybe there is a German word that means the same thing?

In my post apocalyptic game where terran culture stopped after the 90's I named my Cruisers after fictional heroes. I quite liked the SDF John Matrix and the SDF Snake Pilsken. My destroyers where all metal band names, stuff like SDF Savatage and SDF Motorhead.

Still my best naming scheme to date, I was excited every time I got to name a newly built ship heh.

You just remember me a fight i had against a ship call Iron Maiden in a other game.

I found other name for exploration ship.
Isaac Isimov
Arthur C. Clark
(or Arthur Charles Clark)

Fun fact in dead space the main character Isaac Clark is the combination of those 2 names.

 - Just thought of one. I sometimes have Geosurvey Vessels called the "Rockstar" class. I always thought those were rather cleverly named.

The Jeraptha, from the Expeditionary Force series, have some of the best names for ships.  Here are the ones mentioned in the books so far:

Sucker Punch
Never Tell Me The Odds
All-In
Come Over Here and Say That Again
How’d That Work Out For You?
I am Aching To Give Somebody A Beat-Down And Today Is YOUR Lucky Day
You Should See The Last Guy Who Tried That S**t
You Want A Piece Of This?
Deal Me In
Sure Thing
You Should Have Thought Of That Before We Left Home
I'm As Shocked As You Are
It Was Like That When We Got Here
We Were Never Here
Will Do Sketchy Things
Rock-Solid And Suspiciously Convenient Alibi
Time Off For Bad Behavior
Out On Bail
Parole Violation
Plausible Deniability

I am not one to name specific ships or classes anything badass or non-descriptive, so it will be a tie between the Itettsu (named for "headstrong", Tyrell Badd's japanese given name), the first of my intel gathering furtive ships (didn't get to do much more than blow some swarm out of the sky), and the Legislacerator-class Diplomatic ships, which optionally had a bunch of box launcher fighters on them. I am not very good at this.
Everyone asks me why I like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  In actuality, my username predates my knowledge of the books.

SDF Snake Pilsken.

I'd heard that ship had been destroyed :)
