A list of Sith Lords: Darth Tyranus, Darth Sidious etc.  I'm assuming there's a substantial list already compiled somewhere on the internet.

A list of towns and cities in the Netherlands with a population above 25,000.  Its sorted by population, so will pick names in that order by default, rather than alphabetically.

Just a quick reminder for contributors. Everyone is posting one name per line, which is great, but please don't leave any blank lines at the end, as I need to open each file and remove them. The cursor should be at the end of the last word when you save the file.

That’s actually kinda funny; POSIX defines a text file as a file containing lines of text that end in a line–ending character (which of course varies from system to system). It does not make an exception for the final line of the file; that too must end in a line–ending character! :)

But seriously, why not just have the importer ignore empty lines?

BTW, theme 455 has one that is empty :D

Thats what you will see if your cursor is at the end of the file when you save, its normally hidden.

There are no 3D star positions in random games, so no constellations.  It would be easier to generate a name theme using all combinations of Greek letters and constellation names, which would provide over 2000 names.
You asked for it.  Here is a list of 1873 Bayer designations.  Some names include superscript numbers (like Psi9 Aurigae).  I also added a file where the superscript number symbols are replaced with normal numbers.

There are some odd letters such as Ny and My (Nu and Mu I assume), plus spelling mistakes like Ypsilon and Omikron. Do you want to check and update it and I will add it

Those aren’t mistakes, those are older ways of transliterating those Greek letters. ν was pronounced “nee” in ancient greek (it’s “ni” today), so “Ny” was frequently the transliteration used. And so on.

Of the two, I prefer the one with superscript numerals. You should do one with the original greek letters as well. Why go to Alpha Centauri when you can visit α Centauri instead!

Incidentally, would it be possible to customize the names used for company names? I have occasionally considered naming all my parts using the names of aerospace companies during the Apollo era, such as Grumman, McDonnell, Raytheon, Honeywell, Rocketdyne, etc, etc.

Might as well contribute something here...

Attached: ZIP file with name lists I've developed for various campaign settings, 15 in all with two variations of the Stargate ones and two numbered examples of the Raptors one:
  • List of British Admirals of the Fleet, taken from Wikipedia. Useful for ship names of an "Admiral" class.
  • List of United States 4-star admirals. Useful for ship names of an "Admiral" class.
  • List of USN and RN fleet carriers. Useful for carrier names, obviously, probably in a NATO campaign.
  • Deities and other figures from Chinese mythology. Useful as a Chinese system name theme since the default themes have a limited number of names.
  • Greek deities, not in any particular order although more prominent deities tend to be listed first. Useful as a system name theme.
  • List of Nereids, ordered alphabetically. Useful for ship names.
  • Hindu deities, cobbled together from Wikipedia. Useful as a system name theme.
  • Roman deities. Useful as a system name theme.
  • Slavic deities. Useful as a system name theme.
  • List of moons in the solar system. This may or may not be a duplicate of one or more name lists we already have, but at least it is not in alphabetical order?
  • List of nebulae. Useful as gravsurvey ship names.
  • List of tectonic plates. Useful for geosurvey ship names.
  • List of raptors/birds of prey. I use this one for fighter/FAC names by expanding the list with numbers before importing, e.g., "Eagle 01, Eagle 02, ... Eagle 12, Harpy 01, Harpy 02, ..." although this requires a fixed fighter squadron size to work. I've included examples for squadron sizes of 6 and 12, less for inclusion in the game and more to inspire others with the possibility.
  • List of Stargate SG-1 planet names in roughly episode order. In some cases I have changed "planet" in the name to "star, e.g., Ernest's Planet becomes Ernest's Star. Two versions, one with all system names I cribbed together and one with all of the "P3X-###" type of systems removed.
  • WH40K systems list in no particular order, pulled from at least one of the wikis. I know we have a couple of these already, but this one is different!  :P  Mostly, the ones we have annoy me since some of the systems appear to not exist, although that could just be because the wikis are incomplete.

Seen somebody included Dragon names in the last update for 2.4.
Made me think of the Dragons from Game of Thrones also some cool names in that.
