Trap? Why not?!
« on: June 29, 2020, 08:15:47 AM »
Having really bad pest problems in my Empire, some kind of living organisms have found a way into the middle of my empire...

My first Frigate Group had the opportunity to ambush an enemy ship closing on one of my stabilized jump points..., 1 minute before he should be there we jumped 20 Frigates throe, started bombarding him and getting a lucky hit on the second salvo...

Killing it!

Sadly it hit 2 of my frigates that also were destroyed... S&R then jumping back to Epsilon Eridani to leave the survivors on that colony.

ONLY to be ambushed by 6 ships that had moved up during my absence...

Argh!!! 17 frigates destroyed in 20 seconds...

Now we have stooped building those ships, for the moment we are concentrating on escortcarriers and carriers with FB that will kill them with small, fast and deadly missiles...

I have a battleship in the pipeline but that will not be able to compete with pests that are 3-6 times smaller, not in speed or firepower... Perhaps in armor and shielding... But weapons doing 157 in damage!!!...

Maybe those monsters are short-ranged weapons? Plasma carronade-like?

Mmm, possible, never used them myself. They outranged my older ships by 80kkm, now I am at equal range but my heavy lasers cant hit at max range 380kkm and I am getting hit hard... :'(
Oh well I am trying to keep what I got in real estate for the moment and keeping my missile ships supplied, they are the only one that can hurt them.
Even when badly hit they usually kills several ships each... And that they have some acid after effect is even worse, several ship have survived only to blow up later due that effect...

Something like that... 8)

Attacked with my new fighter missiles... Didn't work as intended ::) Strangely enough I had a Hit chance of -16 - -48% :o I presume that was due to that I launched them without proper rest... Alla at 25% morale... :)

damn 157 is a lot of damage... are they doing it with a single ship?
To beam, or not to beam.   That is the question
the answer is you beam. and you better beam hard.

Another question is whether or not there are secondary explosions as well

Yeah, plus the whole "Acid damage over time" weapons that hit once and keep dealing damage on a enemy that apparently is using stabilised jump points to move between systems (Spoilers in my experience with them won't travel to/from JPs unless there's some target near them that they're going to kill/salvage already given that they don't traverse systems last I checked.)

At least I can't say I've ever come across spoilers that use jump points and make a habit of flying between them.  ??? ???

The popular stereotype of the researcher is that of a skeptic and a pessimist.  Nothing could be further from the truth! Scientists must be optimists at heart, in order to block out the incessant chorus of those who say "It cannot be done. "

This particular spoiler race definitely travel through jump points. In my game with all stable jump points, there was whole chain of 8+ systems that were discovered by them.

Just ran into these as well, and they are travelling down stable jump points (I dont use jumpships). They splashed a patrol group, and I really, really dont like what I saw of them from a close combat perspective.

I am about to dump an absolute motherlode of mines on the JP to the system they are in, since its right on one of my colonies. Aint looking good for the Terran Federation, there are a LOT of those small ships.

Mines are still bugged, AFAIK.
