January 5th, 79ASThe 1st and 2nd Patrol Squadrons completed the Advanced Combat and Tactics training at the Alliance Naval Command School. The Captain and crews are now considered to be some of the best the Alliance has, and are awarded the SC-1 Badge for their accomplishments. The Space Combat, Level 1 Badge is awarded for completion of the ACT training courses. The SC-2 Badge is awarded to the Captain and crew of a vessel after their first successful combat mission, and the SC-3 Badge is awarded for exemplary combat records.
January 25th, 79ASThe Alliance Navy's first troop transport, the ATT79-Quicksilver class, is designed and built in orbit of Earth. The Quicksilver is designed to move troops between planets, but is extremely limited in its range. Currently there is no need for a long range troop transport, but the need to get troops to Europa to explore the ruins there was great enough to warrant production.

February 5th, 79ASThe SSV Amerigo Vespucci has completed her overhaul. Her crew is recalled and she is immediately sent to the Faryar system.
March 4th, 79ASA new, planet-less star was discovered by the SSV Apex. The M6-V star, now known as Anadius, is logged and the SSV Apex moves on.
March 23rd, 79ASThe SSV Apogee discovered the system of Relic through a jump point in Columbia. Relic is made up of an M2-V star orbited by 7 planets. One of the planets represents a possible colony, but the others are all too inhospitable. The SSV Apogee transits back into Columbia and moves on to the next jump point.
March 30th, 79ASThe system of Antaeus was discovered beyond Columbia by the SSV Apogee. Antaeus is made up of nearly 150 asteroids, 6 planets and dozens of moons orbiting an M0-V star. The closest planet to the star, now named Ageko, is a frozen terrestrial world that may be able to be terraformed. Current technology, however, would be insufficient to do it in a timely manner.
April 11th, 79ASThe SSV Apogee, exploring the final jump point leading out of Columbia, discovered the system of Aysur. With six planets, seventy moons and forty asteroids, it represents a fair amount of potential resources. The system is noted, and then Captain Judith Kimes orders the SSV Apogee home.
Back in orbit of Earth, the SSV New Beginnings, a prototype Alliance ship capable of building a jump gate, left the W. Simons & Co. Orbital Shipyard and entered into independent orbit of Earth.

April 15th, 79ASThe SSV New Beginnings began its slow journey out to the Faryar jump point. Once they finally arrived, it would take nearly 6 months to complete the jump gate on this side, and another 6 to pass through and complete the jump gate on the other side. In this time, the Alliance Parliament planned to prepare infrastructure, factories and colonists to colonize the moon Childress.
April 19th, 79ASThe SSV Apex discovered the system of Macedon through a jump point in Raheel-Leyya. The binary system is made up of a M5-V primary and M7-V secondary, but only has a total of four planets and three comments. The single planet that orbits the primary is a potential colony site.
April 27th, 79ASThe SSV Apex discovered the system of Lusarn, with a total of six planets and almost seventy moons orbiting a M4-V star. With no good terraforming candidates, the system is marked for planetary and gravitational survey and the SSV Apex moves on.
May 2nd, 79ASThe MSV Thor Heyerdahl completed her overhaul. The crew had already been recalled to prime the ship for her next voyage, and so were ready when the order to move through the Faryar system into Sowilo came and they immediately set out.
May 6th, 79ASThe SSV Apogee returned to Earth to await new orders. The crew is allowed shore leave while they wait.
May 7th, 79ASThe SSV Apex transited a jump point in Raheel-Leyya to find the new system of Ming-Han. The system is named such because the Alliance Parliament's Council on Names could not agree on which of the two historic Chinese Dynasties it should be named after. The system is made up of 8 planets, 71 moons and 121 asteroids orbiting an M6-V class star.
September 15th, 79AS - In Orbit of the Faryar RelayA small fleet of ships surrounds the SSV New Beginnings and the large structure behind it. The structure is a Jump Gate, the first of its kind built by the Earth Systems Alliance. Small objects can been seen moving across the surface of the massive structure, as shuttles and support craft move around it in a seemingly chaotic manner. In fact, everything is running perfectly, and far ahead of schedule. The small objects are actually workers, checking and rechecking the construction. The SSV New Beginnings is their current base of operations and the shuttles and support craft can be seen entering and leaving the numerous hangar decks of the nearly 70,000 ton construction ship. The small fleet is a veritable swarm of vessels owned by the many news networks servicing Earth and Mars, and they are there to mark the completion and activation of the Jump Gate. The Jump Gate, upon completion, will be the the most massive, free-floating structure ever constructed. It is, in fact, a space station as well as a means of interstellar transit. When it is fully active, it will house nearly 50,000 people in relative comfort. Only about 1,000 of those people will be needed to actually work the complex systems of the station, while most of the rest will be there to monitor the traffic through the gate. The Jump Gate houses numerous small vessels, used to guide the ships into position, as well as transfer customs agents to and from any vessels wishing to pass through. These agents are in charge of ensuring that no contraband materials pass into or out of the Sol System. While these people will initially only be training, as the connecting jump gate has yet to be constructed, they will still need places to eat, shop and live. As such, there is a healthy population of people working in the service industries. The Jump Gate represents a huge investment in the Faryar System, though everyone agrees that the garden world of Childress waiting beyond is well worth it.
On board the News Vessel Karma, owned and operated by the Alliance News Network, reporter Sharon Osterhoudt was standing in front of a large viewport with the SSV New Beginnings in the back ground. She was staring into a camera, talking about the wonders of the Jump Gate and what it means for the future of Humanity. In the middle of a sentence about plans for a vast network of these Gates, she stopped and held a finger to her ear. Quickly she motioned for her ship's pilot to turn the ship and then, facing the camera with a grin, began to speak again, "I've just been told that they're preparing the activate the Jump Gate for the first time. As you'll see behind me, we're moving so that we'll be able to see this
event happen. The Jump Gate is built upon a combination of technologies, some of them from the wreck on Luna, others from the ancient Jump Gate found in the Tereshkova System, but the main components are all Human designs. No one is exactly sure what the activation will look like, though speculation is that it'll be quite a show. The Jump Gate is designed as a huge... Well there isn't really a word for it. In short it is a gigantic, stationary engine. As you can see now, it is absolutely massive, and it is truly a wonder to behold. Those huge circles you're now seeing are the actual jump gate. The ship will be guided into place by smaller tender vessels, and then, as the gate powers up, the ship will have to accelerate to full speed. It's a delicate process, and in order to ensure it's done correctly the ship's engines are directly controlled by the jump gate itself. If we can just zoom in here. What you're seeing now is a much closer view of the inner portion of one of those circles. Those are actually antennas, sensor arrays and remote communication dishes. These allow the powerful computers located in the jump gate's main control tower to "see" the ship's exact location as well as to communicate with the crew and to control the engines remotely. When the gate is fully powered, the computers on board send a signal to the engines, priming and then activating them at the same time the gate discharges. This creates a huge amount of energy, enough to propel the ship at close to the speed of light. It's this vast amount of speed that allows the ship to reach a star system light years away in a tiny fraction of the time. Jumps can last anywhere from a few seconds, to up to 20 minutes, depending on the distance between the two systems. Alright, as you can now see, there is definitely something happening. I'm seeing what looks like lightning arcing between the two circular structures. And now the SSV New Beginnings is clearly being moved into position. Oh, did you see that?! I can't believe that didn't harm the ship. The... the "lightning" is now arcing across the outer skin of the New Beginnings. We've just been given a warning from the station, we've gotta darken the shielding on our viewports, or close them if we can't do that. Thankfully we can darken them, and it's a good thing too because that is really bright now. They've started a countdown... 5... 4... 3... 2..."
As the energy arcs between the ship and the gate, the crew of the SSV New Beginnings feels the ship begin to vibrate. They don't know what to expect. The jump gate in the Tereshkova system was never used, it was felt to be too dangerous. It was studied, probed and activated, but just what occurred was classified. The SSV New Beginnings' comm system was echoing the countdown from the jump gate. Everyone on board was nervous, but when the countdown hit 0, it was like nothing had happened. They felt the expected pressure on their chests as the ship accelerated to an extreme speed, but that was it. And then, in just a couple of moments, they were in the Faryar System, in one piece, and totally safe. The ship erupted in cheers, and celebration, and the Captain spoke over the comm, "Congratulations, we've just made history."
On the Sol side, it was truly a spectacular show. As the countdown reached zero, a massive discharge of energy was seen. It looked like the ship must have exploded. The arcs of energy between the gate and the ship grew larger, and then suddenly stopped. And the next moment, the SSV New Beginnings was gone. It was replaced first by a blinding flash of blue, and then by the quiet and dark of space. It was all over in seconds, and immediately the jump gate broadcast an all clear. Aboard the Karma, Sharon Osterhoudt had only one more thing to add. "Wow..."
December 6th, 79ASThe transfer of factories and civilian infrastructure to Europa is completed. A mass driver is also moved to the moon so minerals needed by the colony can be easily transferred from Earth.
December 11th, 79ASThe Anadius System has now been fully surveyed. The MSV Yuri Gagarin reports finding only one other jump point besides the one from Faryar. The vessel sets course back to Earth to refuel and resupply, and is then sent to survey the Hydra System.
December 22nd, 79ASThe Alliance Parliament has decided to attempt to make Europa a less inhospitable place. They have ordered a number of atmosphere factories be built on Earth, and then shipped to Europa. New developments in shield technologies have allowed scientists to create an "atmospheric shield." With a complex network of amplifiers and generators, sections of Europa could have a breathable atmosphere and temperate weather. This would be prohibitively expensive to do across the entire moon, but the cost drops dramatically by focusing the efforts on just the populated areas. The fact that the area of the ruins is to be terraformed is not mentioned to the general public.
January 19th, 80ASThe SSV New Beginnings completed oversight of the jump gate construction on the Faryar side of the Sol-Faryar jump point. It was attended by as many news ships as before, but the fanfare was much more subdued now that people knew what to expect. With the completion of the second jump gate, the Faryar system was now wide open for colonization. The Alliance Parliament immediately started making all needed preparations. The most important thing was the construction of civilian infrastructure. Childress was a near perfect colony site, but it wasn't absolutely perfect. Plans were also made to build and ship terraforming installations from Earth. The completion of the second jump gate also meant the Faryar System was open to the Alliance Military. Alliance Naval Command, however, had no true fighting ships. The Epsilon and Indigo classes were intended for short range patrol duty in the Sol System, not for the long distance travel between stars. Feeling that they would need ships to defend and patrol any new colony in Faryar or beyond, the Alliance Naval Command began reviewing designs for new ships, in particular they needed a new Frigate and a new Cruiser. The construction of these ships, however, was delayed to allow a group of scientists to finish testing a new propulsion technology. The Magneto-Plasma Drive would be more powerful than the current Ion Drives, and the scientists, led by Dr. Larissa Jan, have already successfully built and tested a prototype. Dr. Jan promised the final testing would be done before May.
February 9th, 80ASThe Alliance Parliament, in a rare unanimous decision, has agreed to create a new civilian administration. The nations on Earth, and the colonies and Mars, had long been lobbying for a more integral part in the government of their combined populaces. In response, the Alliance Parliament has created the position of Sector Governor. The rulers of the combined populations within a specific area would elect from among themselves a Sector Governor. This individual would then be able to better direct the combined needs and desires of their constituent populations, and could lobby the Alliance Parliament if need be. If the Earth Systems Alliance is the "federal" government of humanity, an Alliance Sector would be a "state," and the individual countries have now become the "local" governments. It is hoped by all that this hierarchy will allow for a more streamlined approach to funding and resource management. Instead of each individual nation lobbying for their own needs, entire star systems(or maybe even more) would now be represented by one Sector Governor.
March 4th, 80ASA new education campaign has paid off as a large number of newly trained engineers enters the Alliance workforce. A system of schools built on Earth and Mars, and one on Europa, have been training new students in engineering, science, technologies and business. The first engineering graduates were offered jobs before they even graduated, and many of the companies they work for have reported a marked increase in productivity.(Construction Rate 14 BP was researched, in other words)
March 24th, 80ASThe engineers exploring and excavating the ruins on Europa discovered 4000 tons of Gallicite in a buried freighter. This is the first returns on the investment. The engineers are positive that a lot more is hidden beneath the ice and rock.
April 14th, 80ASDr. Larissa Jan revealed her prototype Magneto-Plasma Drive in a press conference broadcast throughout Alliance Space. The new drive design would be used as the starting point of engines for both the civilian and military sectors. The Alliance Naval Command immediately began work on a series of engines for use in their new frigate and cruiser class ships, as well as upgraded versions of their littoral-combat ships and corvette designs.
April 30th, 80ASThe first of the new Hammer series of anti-ship missiles finished the final phase of testing. It is now ready for production on Earth and Mars. Both planets immediately start manufacturing the new weapons, which take advantage of the Magneto-Plasma Drive technology.
May 15th, 80ASDevlon Industries won the contract to produce the Alliance Navy's missile defense turrets. Their Patriot Missile Defense Turret is a smaller version of the CIWS used on the Steadfast Planetary Defense Centers. While it is no quicker at acquiring targets, nor more heavily armed, the reduced size allows it to fit into a more versatile role.
May 25th, 80ASThe engineers working the Xodar Commonwealth ruins on Europa uncovered a fuel depot containing 8 million liters of refined Sorium. With the ruins considered stable, and now being uncovered at an accelerated rate, the Alliance Parliament has decided to announce their discovery. The announcement is met with only mild discontent over the delay before making it public knowledge. Mostly people are just excited to see and study the ruins. The Harvard School of Xenobiology is allowed to send students and professors to Europa, and other universities and colleges are also asking to be allowed to do the same. The goal is to both gain as much knowledge and resources as possible from the ruins while also training the next generation of scientists and researchers.
July 21st, 80ASThe first of the new Broadsword class Cruisers began construction at the Charlestown Navy Shipyard in orbit of Earth. It will be years before they are completed, but Alliance Naval Command stated that once these first two were ready, the process of constructing more of the ships would be much quicker. They also said that the Broadsword, and other Cruiser class ships, will be the backbone of the future Alliance Navy.

October 7th, 80ASA more efficient means of refining Sorium has been developed by the Eldfell-Ashland Energy corporation. The corporation also reports that they are nearing completion on a mobile Sorium refinery. This "Sorium harvester" would allow private companies, and the Alliance Navy, to build ships capable of skimming Sorium from the atmospheres of gas giants.
October 27th, 80ASEldfell-Ashland Energy revealed the newly designed Sorium harvester. The mobile refinery is hailed as a technological wonder, allowing for a more efficient means of producing Sorium by removing the need to first mine and process Helium-3 from the crust of planets. By processing gaseous Helium-3 in the atmospheres of some gas giants straight into Sorium it will be much cheaper for private companies to manufacture Sorium based fuels. The Alliance Parliament has contracted Eldfell-Ashland Energy to construct and operate Sorium refining ships for the Alliance Navy.
November 7th, 80ASA new financial center has opened in Buenos Aires. The center focuses on interplanetary trading, creating a centralized location for individuals and companies to conduct business in a friendly environment. The center is already at maximum capacity, having leased all available offices before they were finished, and plans are already in the works to expand the facilities.

December 7th, 80ASThe MSV Diamond, and MSV Amethyst were built by the Karstensens Orbital Shipyard Ltd. in orbit above Earth. The two ships will be refit to conform to the new Discovery-II class of planetary survey vessel, but as that design is not yet finalized Baria Frontiers has decided to send the vessels into the Faryar System.
December 13th, 80ASA group of engineers on Europa reported finding five maintenance facilities in the Xodar Commonwealth ruins. The prefab structures so closely resemble those currently used by the Alliance that it is decided to immediately transfer them to the military base for any needed updates and restorations.
December 18th, 80ASThe MSV Sapphire has returned to Earth for maintenance and R&R after spending nearly 22 months in the Faryar system.
December 23rd, 80ASThe Low Gravity Training Center on Mars has finished an expansion of it's facilities. The expansion has doubled the size of the training center, therefore allowing it to handle a larger number of potential future officers and crewmen.
December 28th, 80ASThe Setenave Orbital Shipyard is completed in geosynchronous orbit above Earth. This is the first new shipyard built in almost fifty years. Currently it is incapable of handling construction of ships over 1000 tons, but the Alliance Naval Command immediately orders it to be expanded by 1000 tons.
Baria Frontiers has finalized the design of the new Discovery-II class of planetary survey ships. After the Karstensens Orbital Shipyard is retooled to handle the construction of the newer vessels the company will begin refitting the older Discovery ships. The new ships are capable of reaching 3555 km/s, an increase of nearly 1000 km/s. The ships carry 150,000 more liters of fuel, can travel about 100 billion kilometers further, and are lighter by 350 tons. These things were accomplished by having Stellar Dynamics design and build a jump engine tailored specifically for the Discovery-II.
