Security Council Meeting

<< < (2/6) > >>

NuclearStudent:
My name is Xian Grahams and until recently I was a part of an NAU black research project into relativistic interdiction and interplanetary bombardment.

Please settle down. The NAU has not and has never been interested in developing this sort of weapon, but we were never quite sure whether any of you would be. As we are all rational actors on the same stage it was only prudent to attempt to develop countermeasures.

My only proposal is that in the event that the planet Earth is bombarded from space, that we link together our planetary defense weapons and fire-control grids to defend our cities and people together.  We are an alliance of sane states and should formalize a mutual defense alliance if the time comes. Each missile headed towards any populated area should be intercepted as if it were heading towards one’s own cities or towns, with no chauvinism and no preference other than that towards humanity as a whole. You may stop listening now-the only things I have left to say are justifications and unimportant details.

I bring up this up now, because we must ensure the privacy of our individual national secrets.

I do not risk compromising my nation’s security by baldly stating that certain efforts have been made to completely negate a select set of possible Transnewtonian and Newtonian threats. However, the assumption was always made that, in the case of an extraterrestrial threat outside of our three nations, that we could depend on each other to form a mutual defense net. And, in the interest of honesty, I will declare that quiet approaches were made between your scientists and ours to see if it was possible to trade targeteering data without giving away military secrets.

We concluded that it was definitely possible, and urge you to confirm this for yours so that the business of mutual security can be gotten on with.
Time is precious. If a Transnewtonian missile strike comes in at severals tens of thousands of kilometers per second, as NAU research is aware of as a possibility, then any duplication in our respective Area Denial arrays could cost thousands of lives. The NAU’s scientific boards only tell us that independent interdiction might stop all incoming projectiles assuming that the FSA and the RC have taken the problem of planetary defense just as seriously as the NAU. If this assumption is deficient, this analyst would like to know now. If trouble comes it will have been too late to take countermeasures.

Xian Grahams returns to his chair.

TheDOC:
The RC foreign relations department agrees with the need to face an extraterrestrial danger alone.

However, a plan must be estabilished in advance to avoid unnecessary "mistakes" in targeting, with nations protecting against threats to everybody, and not only themselves.

Drgong:
The FSA of course agrees with the mutual self defense concept, as we proposed the idea years ago and still feel that it is important.

Drgong:
FSA Intel (from interrogation) has learned that the Red Duncanites are secretly massing ships for a attack on Earth.  Please review your planetary defense plans.

NuclearStudent:
How goes Havok? What locations have been narrowed down for the possible Red Duncanite base location?
