The Solar Unions Exploration Security Service
« on: May 22, 2012, 04:03:43 PM »
This are the classes which are used in the military branch of the Exploration Service a department of the ministry of education, research and exploration (additional there are the Naval Service and the Ground Defense Service of the Ministry of Defense and the Patrol and Escort Service of the Ministry of the Interior (rumor has it that the ministry of environment also tries to get there hands on a few ships)).

The main use at the moment is to search and destroy hostile ships before the survey ships jump in.

A FastSen-1(LR)/2135 is normaly the first ship that will jump through a unexplored jumphole, once in the new system it will start moving toward the sun or a planet in range and activate its active sensor after 3 hours. If no body is in range it will scan the zone around the jumppoint and return to call in the taskgroup that wait on the other side.

Edit: They also serve as pickets on jump points for the patrol service

The Surveillance Destroyer seem to have missiles, but no launchers nor fire controls? Are they to double as colliers? Why not two separate ships classes for tow separate tasks?

Your collier appears to only have 24 size four missiles, with magazine space for a few hundred.

Left over from the design process, I used the Carrier-1/2134 as starting point, which used to have 24 ASM(S)-1 in stock.

The Surveillance Destroyer seem to have missiles, but no launchers nor fire controls? Are they to double as colliers? Why not two separate ships classes for tow separate tasks?
As I wrote they double as Auxiliary Collier.

Why? Because I had space left, so I filled it with what I think is the most useful in a longer missile exchange, more missiles

If you only intend to use one marine company on your flagships you might as well use 2 boat bays instead of 1 hangar deck.  Saves some space.

You have a lot more different warships than I would use personally, but I prefer multi roles.  YMMV.

The overall speed is low for the tech level, but not too low, and you have the FACs to make up the difference. So that should work.

If you intend the FAC to be a jump scout it should probably mount a jump drive.  While it can use the command ship's jump drive to enter an enemy system, if there is a hostile presence at the gate a standard transit stands no chance of getting any useful information before destruction.  And if the jumpgate is clear, you can use the passive sensor destroyer to detect major threats. Throttle down its drives and it will have minimal signature.

The 50 BKM range on the missile destroyers will get annoying because you will have to refuel a lot.  I realise you'll have tankers, but...

I'm not certain, but it looks like you are using Maintenance Storage on most of your ships.  In my experience it's better to use engineering spaces unless its a supply ship or carrier.  They do a better job of extending useful lifetime, are more supply-efficient, and provide combat ships with repair redundancy.  A ship that loses all its engineering spaces either has to be scuttled or towed.

*EDIT*
Also, by looks, you are using default efficiency tech on the FACs. You could eke some more speed at them relatively cheaply with -10% or -20% fuel efficiency techs.

That is intentionally, with the free space on the carriers I can free one carrier if needed for captured ships

The idea is to minimize the possible loss of life and material on this missions and a jump drive on board would slow the scout to much.
What I forgot in the first post, they are also the pickets that I station on jump points.

Mmmm, I know that I added some more in the design process, but I don't know anymore why I replaced them with MS.
