I put a garrison battalion on every colony as my civilian transport constantly dumps far more colonists on starting colonies than can be supported by the infrastructure available.  Not much I can do about that as my freighters and terraformers are already working at capacity.  But I could at least do something about the lack of protection unrest.

Troops have the added benefit of being able to suppress unrest from overpopulation.  And if you have an active civilian fleet that has access to the system, any colony that has any infrastructure on it could suddenly become the fad destination of millions of colonists.

I find Garrison or Mobile Infantry Battalions to do an excellent job of that, though I suppose it depends on your troop lift capacity.

This design is classed as a Planetary Defence Centre and can be pre-fabricated in 1 sections

After I research more power boosting I'll try to squeeze in a slightly slower dual turret to make it 500 tons.  But for now I suppose I'll be queueing them up as singletons.  I hadn't planned on making all that many anyway - while it would be helpful as supplemental point defense it's main purpose is to keep the outlying colonies happy until I can get some patrol ships put together.

I doubt Steve ever considered people building 'mini' PDCs, so since prefab PDC components have a fixed size, I assume the game's internal math combines smaller PDCs into one, larger, prefab component.  And the separate code that creates PDCs out of components assumes a minimum of one component-per-PDC.

So, yeah, you've outsmarted yourself (or Aurora, or whatever) and your mini-meson bases are going to suffer significant 'construction attrition'.

No, the pre-fab sections are one PDC broken down into... well sections. Sections that are pre-fabricated!  :D

This let's you assemble them off-world with a greater degree of ease. So short answer is no; you built your PDC in 10 parts, with each part amounting to 1/10th of a full PDC.

I'm creating a 275 ton 41.2 cost Meson PDC based on Resident Evil's design seen here:  http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php?topic=10394.0

I queued one up as a fighter which deployed immediately to the constructing colony, which makes sense.  But then I queued up a prefab order for 10 on Earth and wound up with 3 PDC components in inventory.  I thought that perhaps as these PDCs are small I would get more than one PDC per section but after transport andassembly I only got 3 PDCs. A second construction order of 12 gave me 4 PDC components. 

Did I do something wrong?
