Aurora Chat / [Forum Game] The Design Championship.

So, I was thinking of running a ship design championship. Everyone get a set amount of BP to use to design a ship. I get the ship design and any doctrine for its use, and make them fight. Winner gets to move to the next level, until the Forum Champion of Design as been found.

This is my tentative ruleset:

All techs costing less than 5000 RP are allowed are allowed for the first round. Later round will take place at a higher tech level. Race-specific tech don't count (so you can have a humungous sensor if you want).

Player gets 5000 BP to spend on ship(s) during the first round. Later round will include more BPs. The design are submitted privately (to avoid the other side optimizing its design for a specific opponent) and revealed when both side have submitted their design.

There is no restriction on the designs apart that your ship or task group must be able to travel at least 7 billions km (it's not fun if both side runs out of fuel before the fight).

All combat take place in Sol (No, you can't have PDCs). Players get to put their ship anywhere within the orbit of Pluto. I then run the fight according to the player's instructions. If the instruction cause the game to stall (for exemple, both sides are camping with actives sensors off), I will not respect them. If neither side can detect the other, I'll simply send all ships toward Sol until they can detect each other.

The last side to have ships win. If the match get stuck because no side is able to damage the other one, whoever got the less damage (expressed in number of BP) wins.

I would like to congratulate all nations on the new discovery of trans-newtonions minerals and the possibility they offer for the benefit of all mankind. I hope we all follow the lead of our predecessors that signed the Outer Space Treaty and make space a place of peace, not a battlefield.

So there was a lot of discussion about the new Titans units in the change log thread. One thing that wasn't much discusse however was "starting from what we know about TN elements, how would ground combat change"? We know that TN elements allow instantaneous change of speed and direction, as well as FTL detection of gravity waves, but also of heat and EM (And as such, FTL communication). Interestingly, it cannot send energy in a FTL manner (hence the range limit on energy weapons)

It also seems that the TN effects only work over a certain size, since you can't build a missile of less than 2,5 tons.

So, how would TN influence ground combat? I'd expect the 2,5 tons limits to be important. The agility and maneuvrability benefits are some important I'd expect militaries to devellop exosuits of that weigh range.

Mechanics / Changing Titan's base temperature.

Hi to all. I'm starting a new game, and I'd like to have one of my empire start on Titan. Now, I'd like them to be human, but I cannot get Titan's temperature above -43°, which mean Titan still got a 2.0 colony cost. Is there a way to change that?

Well, I just did a new install, and it seems all the pictures are missing. I re-did an instal for fun and profit, and the pics still aren't there. Did I miss something? If I can find the pics somewhere, where should I drop them?

It seems to be that our free market republic rely far too much on the state. So far, we've got really few civilians ships around.

As such, I give a standing order for the fiscal year 2065: any shipping companies whose finance falls under 3000 megacredit will get subsidies as long as the Treasury holds.

Observing that with the end of the "Red Sickle", no organization exists that may rebel against our power.

I propose that we adopt the titles and formal organization of a Corporation.

Under this bill, the following titles and organization would be renamed.

The President would become the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The Senate Speaker would become the Chairman
The Senate would become the Board of Trustees
Ministers would become Vice-President for Commerce, Infrastructures, R&D, etc...
The Vice-President would be, well, the Senior Executive Vice-President

Should this bill pass, the Board would have the responsability to choose our Company's name within 30 days.

Dear Ministers and Senators

While we still call ourselves a democracy, it is well-known that we only own our current position due to the support of various corporations and that most of our time is spend trying to further the interest of our true corporate masters.

Until know, it has been more convenient to respect the form of a republic, if only to prevent unrest, but the recent defeat of the dreade "Red Sickle" combined with new trans-newtonian riot gear allow us to ignore the public entirely. Who would dare to protests if we can destroy any sindle demonstration from orbit?

With this problem gone, I think it would be more convenient to re-brand ourselves as a real corporation, displaying our corporate affiliation and generally be more open about who our backers are.

As thus I propose the following change to terminalogy:
The Senate will become the Administration Council
The Capinet will become the Board of Directors
The President will become the CEO.
As for the various ministers they'll be Head of their respective Department.

As for the company's name proper, we must decided what it'll be. My best marketing consultant are already working on it. Given that it is mostly a Industrial company, I'd go for General Industries.

The ministry of Commerce is in the market for blueprints of the following ship:

-A cargo ship, able to carry at least 25,000 tons of merchandises.
-A colony ship.

All proposals will be judged on costs, speed and ease of construction. The designs will be reviewed by an expert commitee and the Minister will take the final decisions.

I think the president should nominate ministers, but also set the budget. He should make an estimate of how much money we're going to have, and how much each minister can use.

Minerals should be managed by the Industry Minister (maybe make it into a separate minsitry later on). He can choose to restrict the use of a given minerals if there isn't enough of it.

Well, my current game stalled when civies decided to squadron jump through a jumpgate. Of course they can't, so I'm stuck. Would SMing some ships with commercial jump drive on the jumpgate solve my problem?

Well, after reading one of Steve's campaign, I've started to add a few AMM to my ASM ships. I'd figure that were I to encounter aliens with superior range, I could as well use those AMMs. And that should I ever encounter much stronger aliens, they would be useful in covering my retreat.

Now, of course, a size-4 missile launcher can only launch a size-1 AMM every so often. But it could launch a small MIRV carrying two or even three AMMs, thus greatly improving their performance. So here is my question, can you use MIRV against AMMs?

Okay, so I've started to toy around with ground troops, and I'm not sure what to do with Drop module. They're used to board ships that I know, but are they used to land quickly on a planet? Put otherwise, do I need a dropship to efficiently invade a planet? What would happen if I were to unload troops on an hostile planet?

Also, is it possible to transfer troop in flight, so that I can have a large, civilian troop transport and a small, fast dropship to board ships?
