--- This... is a terrible ship; you should
not use this ship w/o first upgrading it with better tech. This design is a proof of concept and far better suited to Nuclear Pulse / Ion Engines and Composite Armor. That said, as a concept it is an AMM Defense Frigate with Particle Beam backups to help finish off enemies. It's pretty good against equal tech enemies, as the missile throw weight can devastate an enemy ship in 1 on 1. The
Diligent-Class carries enough missiles to, at least in theory, destroy all of it's own armor; in practice, this would never happen on account of it's speed.
--- A Boat Bay and Small Boat Bay work together to afford the ship some scouts, while 20,000 Litres is held in reserve for it's parasites. Three magazines sport 10 Missiles each, and furnish the ship with 3 extra HtK per magazine, while Cryogenic Berths afford the crew some leeway if the life support gets zonked. This ship uses extremely low tech, and is intended to be designed early and built later if possible. I like to have some warship design laying around though, so if I get attacked early I just need to put the ordinance designs I have into production, then immediately begin researching the prototypes I have.
--- As posted though, the
Diligent-Class isn't a very good ship, but it can be useful even this early on. The PPV is certainly okay and the range & maintenance life, when coupled to it's low cost, means that it can provide a good stop gap solution for PPV, while the ship benefits
immensely from just a simple upgrade of it's missiles. It's Particle Beam armament and overbuilt Beam FCS can help it to weather obsolescence from early ECM and low caliber Near UV Lasers. A refit of Active Sensors and Missile FCS can allow it to serve longer in the AMM role as well.
