What I'd do is drop a couple automines on the comet, then let it complete a revolution around the star. Collect the automines and minerals.

And note that they automatically refine it into fuel, so they don't produce any raw sorium.

How do you get these to work on say a Comet that has sorium? Or do you just mine like usual and then pick up the sorium?

I believe they only function on gas giants.
