Single crew Fighters
« on: November 11, 2010, 06:22:47 PM »
Can you make single crew fighter, like x-wings or starfury's.

The minimum crew fights I been able to make have been 10-12. Which to me in my mind are not fighters but gunboats.

Perhaps I not found  research tech good enough, but I seem to grabbed all the fighter tech.

Nope.  At least not unless there's something fruther down the tech tree that I haven't reached.

Which version of Aurora are you using?  In one of the recent changes, Steve reduced the number of crew required for fighters.  You can easily get a crew of 6 now.  Steve's concept of the fighters in Aurora is more akin to that of a bomber (hence the multiple crew) than a fighter.  The FACs are roughly analogous to the E-Boats/MTBs/PT Boats of WWII.
Here's my current fighter design using 5.20:

Code: [Select]
Roced F1 class Fighter    245 tons     6 Crew     93.1 BP      TCS 4.9  TH 42  EM 0
24489 km/s     Armour 2-3     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 0     PPV 1.8
Annual Failure Rate: 2%    IFR: 0%    Maint Capacity 48 MSP    Max Repair 35 MSP    Est Time: 10.19 Years
Magazine 12
Lightening Mk1 FTRSCAM (1)    Power 120    Fuel Use 6000%    Signature 42    Armour 0    Exp 25%
Fuel Capacity 10,000 Litres    Range 1.2 billion km   (13 hours at full power)
Crossbow Mk1 BL (6)    Missile Size 2    Hangar Reload 15 minutes    MF Reload 2.5 hours
FMA-1 (1)     Range 40.7m km    Resolution 12
This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes
This design is classed as a Fighter for production and combat purposes

Pity I wouldn't mind even if it was further up a tech tree a fighter which was single crew

You could always put it in as a suggestion for Aurora II :)

It's not like it compares.
At a speed of 25+km/s the complete steering is done by computers most likely, it's not like the crew is directly steering or targeting, at best giving direction and firing order.
Also, even the smallest combat capable fighter will be around 150 tons.
