Unknown ship transit detected
« on: July 19, 2012, 06:49:23 AM »
Ok, this is driving me mad. Exactly one faction in a multi-faction game of mine sporadicly generates a: "Unknown ship transit detected."

Has anyone else seen this message or know what causes it? The only difference I can think of between them and other factions is that they are picketing a jump point with active sensors on.

... know what causes it?

"Unknown ship transit detected."?

I don't know for sure, but here is my logical conclusion:
Sounds like you answered your own question.  The ship is detecting something coming and going from a JP but cannot actively detect the ship itself.  Maybe it's outside of active sensor range or too small for the active sensor you have running?  Kind of like how ships in a system can detect nuclear explosions even when they cannot see them.

It's an unknown ship coming through the jump point they're picketing.

SO how come it doesn't become a known ship when it comes through then? Active Sensors are on and everything. Should be seeing at least the usual "New ship from ______ detected" messages.

Are civilian ships using the wormhole? Most of my headaches with this sort of thing are related to civilian transponders.

The message is attributed to Sol. If it isn't a sol gate them I'm lost.

There are five gated jump point from Sol in this campaign. Two or three have smi-permanent pickets by at least one faction. Most factions are on passive sensors only, but the faction receiving the unknown transit warning has active sensors running at one location. Unless I'm missing something, the active sensors are the only thing that makes this faction different from the others.

There are civilians using jump gates, but not the particular gate with the active sensor picket. I think. I'd also think any transit message related to a transponder would also be seen by multiple factions and not just the one.

I'd say it sort of defeats the purpose of a picket if something can transit without you knowing which gate, what direction, or who.

You do not perhaps have any passive sensors that can see one of the other warp points? Like DSTS's or something? That is the typical warning I get when I have passive pickets watching warppoints.
