Survey shuttle ships "Buran" program
« on: December 17, 2020, 12:17:25 AM »
Title says it all.
Using 500 ton and below size ships as early surveying vessels. Cheap and fast to build.
The three ship classes belong to the same program, each based on the original "Buran" class but updated with improvements in hull and range.

Buran Class
Code: [Select]
Buran class Geological Survey Craft      500 tons       22 Crew       167.2 BP       TCS 10    TH 6    EM 0
590 km/s      Armour 1-5       Shields 0-0       HTK 3      Sensors 0/0/0/1      DCR 0      PPV 0
Maint Life 1.57 Years     MSP 20    AFR 20%    IFR 0.3%    1YR 9    5YR 140    Max Repair 100 MSP
Kapitan vtorogo ranga    Control Rating 1   SCI

Morale is important or the points generated will be lower. Plus for a role-play reason, do you want to have your crew becoming psychotic while doing their missions?

It looks like these ships are designed only for quick jaunts out to the asteroid belt, scan a couple of rocks, and come home. The fuel load in each case is about enough that the ship can fly out and then turn around once the deployment clock runs out.

Usually you wouldn't do this since even meager NTE ships can have months or years of endurance easily, but in this case I think the OP is modeling after the Buran-class orbiter which had a 15-20 day mission profile i.e. deployment time, so this is purely an RP design.

the later design could carry out survey mission to saturn and back, so in general I got good mileage out of these for such small ships.
