To change them I would need a lists of surnames, male first names and female first names. They should be in txt files with one name per row.

To try to answer the question more directly:
  • I do not recall any method for a player to modify the lists that are already in the game.
  • You should be able to rename individual leaders that bug you.
  • There's a method for importing text files as new lists, but I don't recall offhand what it is (there should be instructions floating around the forum somewhere, or someone else may be able to help you). I can't positively confirm that it applies to people's names, rather than just ships/classes or something.
  • There have been similar cases in the past where Steve has been happy to include new or improved lists in future versions. To make sure he has the opportunity, once you have posted your work, link to it from the pinned Official Suggestions thread.

Please do fix them!

Hello everybody!

I wonder, can I somehow change different russian names in game, because some of them are really rare and some of them are not usable in conversations other than how mother call her 3 y.  o.   son (Alyoshenka is for Alexey for example).   I can help filtering and fixing it if Steve will want to do it.
Also there is some difference in surnames of men and women, for instance Popov and Popova respectively.
