 - A super-low tech Railgun based fighter. A 40% Intercept chance against missiles going 5,000 km/s isn't anything to sniff at, while a 20% intercept chance against missiles moving 10,000 km/s isn't too shabby either, considering the size, tech level and cost of a Shepherd Class Fighter. A twelve day deployment and an effective range of 200,000,000 km give it some okay-ish legs for such a small ship.

I like them.
Armour is so horribly heavy in the early game that it makes these things really interesting to try and design.
Although maybe the 25 year lifespan of the Shepard class is a little overkill, are you expecting to burn through 160 MSP during combat?

 - The 10cm Railgun costs 3.5 to repair each failure, so that MSP is good for about 46 failures. The ship has a twelve day deployment, assuming it fires through a full day's worth of non-stop combat it will experience roughly 57 maintenance failures from the railgun. So, yes, it is a little excessive...
