Was asked a question from a fan.
Q: What language has the FSA adopted for official use? Obviously, such a large alliance between various nations from different parts of the globe - who natively speak different languages - has to have a common language to cooperate effectively. This is doubly important when it comes to training crew and officers, since they must coordinate and work side by side.
It depends on the were you are at in the FSA government.
Elected officials (MPs and Senate) Can speak Afrikaans, Arabic, English, German, Farsi, Portuguese, and Zulu.
The FSA Navy uses Simplified English as it standard language. Due to the need of pilot training requiring English.
The FSA Army is more old fashioned, and has two languages - The Southern Command (Africa) uses Afrikaans, the Northern command (Middle East) uses Farsi.
Considering how important it should be to the FSA to advocate unity (considering their differences), I would think that they could not afford to pick the official language of a constituent nation as it would imply favoritism and encourage a sense of elitism.
The FSA hides it's warts well, but it a quasi-Fascist alliance between mostly white African's holding old colonies and Iranians controlling the Shia Crescent. There was no "Winds of change" in this history.
The only logical solution, as I see it, would be to adopt Esperanto as it is an engineered language not part of any nation. They would need to make Esperanto a mandatory part of cadet training (and probably a cultural sensitivity training course, too). I suspect key FSA politicians would also need to learn the official language, too. Fortunately, I hear that it is designed to be easy to learn and it is very similar to the romance languages.
Esperanto estas pli facile lernebla tiam plej lingvoj , sed ankora? ne estas facile lernebla .
Esperanto is easier to learn then most languages, but it still not easy to learn.
BTW: I'd post this as a reply to your RP thread topic. However, I'm not sure how to write this as an in-character official media response.
May I suggest that your RP thread adopt a habit of enclosing all media responses in quotes? That way, fans could respond or ask questions without confusing readers as to what is being roleplayed and what isn't?
Not a bad idea. Also they can feel free to ask in this thread.
